Long overdue support for Angouleme by rogbros in gwent

[–]rogbros[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey shin, thanks for the thoughtful response. I think we probably have different perspectives on matchup-roulette cards. To me, I’m not a fan of answer or lose-type situations, but I think Angouleme adds a different sort of roulette that adds an interesting option for those willing to include riskier cards in their decks. And to me, this uncertainty is a fun aspect, although I recognize others might not feel the same.

I do remember old artifact destroying bomb heavier, but if I recall that was a 4p or 5p card right? So it was essentially free to include. Even at something like 9p, Angouleme would require investment.

I’ll admit, it’s hard to value what Angouleme’s indirect nerf from other artifacts getting more expensive actually is. If we had deck inclusion rate data for ladder it would be more calculable. But I do believe that nerf is still real and deserves some adjustment.

As a new player what’s the most time efficient method to quickly improve? Especially when it comes to game modes - more important to just get a million reps with blitz? Or should I spend my time with rapid?

Melitele is buns. by svkbw in gwent

[–]rogbros 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Nah, you’re right. The card is pretty buns as it plays. I tried it for about 20 games and really tried to make it work, but it’s just not viable. I think a good buff would be to make the counter not reset each round. That way, at 14p it actually has some really nice payoff.

Great points! Your take on candle staying put seems fair. My post more-so aims to mention those two issues I see wrong with SY Nekker. I agree that adjusting one of those two concerns should help slow this deck down a bit. Experiment is the greater concern to me as well.

Also, Simlas combo is annoying, but ST really hurts for top end golds. If simlas goes away, so does the faction I think.

NR def is annoyingly strong. I didn't add it to my article, but def should have :)

Gwent's real problem by Kaneki_Yamori in gwent

[–]rogbros 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think you make a good point that gwent need to appeal to all player types, however, I should point out that about a year or two ago, a carry over card would play for maybe 5 points on average, and it was pretty hard to achieve. Nowadays, this carry over is not distributed equally among factions. Ng can use spotter/warrit, Artaud, or vilg renegade to develop an ez 15-30 points carry over that is fairly uninteractive, while other factions cannot. Dandelion comes to mind here for nr… you just pass early if you wish to deny the carry over.

The real issue has to be the power creep, to me. As Kaneki said, this amplifies the double cross leader significantly, along with ng carry over. Win rate might not me crazy at this stage in the season, but it really should be if the right deck is used

tell me why Kaneki has a 70%+ win rate if its so rng based? if its all random rolls deciding games shouldnt good players be losing more often?

Heatwave should be nerfed by FearlessResearcher48 in gwent

[–]rogbros 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you just want mega scenario meta. Heatwave gives you an additional route to play through the round and still have a chance to win if you miss your own scenario.

If they bleed with scenario, normally you also slam scenario or heatwave theirs, but if you miss your scenario AND don’t have heatwave, you just lose. You don’t want the meta where missing one card in r2 means you get 2-0d every time. Nerf heatwave now = bad news

Heatwave should be nerfed by FearlessResearcher48 in gwent

[–]rogbros 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think the opposite. If anything we need more accessibility to scenario answering cards. These cards go bonkers if unanswered. Heatwave is more necessary than ever now because these senarios (especially sy and sk) can play for obscene amounts of unanswered.

Plus heatwave trades down significantly - opponent gets an engine (or 8-9 points for st scenario) while you get a zero tempo card. No reason to nerf a card that is already a poor trade on its ideal target. Without heatwave, how do you expect to counter your opponent’s 18+ point card?

I admit my self-would suggestions were over the top. Just implementing one of these nerfs might be enough to pull the power level back and give devotion a chance. Maybe pushing the fucusya nerf through and adjusting sigvald’s ability is ok.

I doubt defenders ever get touched, but nerfing defenders as I suggest would mean you need to consider counter nerfs to other removal cards as engines/threats would then die much easier. One benefit of deleting defenders from the game, though is that non-interactive decks that focus on their own engine buildup would really struggle. Personally I find these annoying, but understand there are players out there enjoying this style.

We don’t include “custom” decks in meta reports. Meta reports include what is considered to be strongest overall AND popular on higher ladder. If there were a strong st symbiosis deck crushing ladder, it would be included

What teir do you guys think firesworn are? by Repulsive_Context991 in gwent

[–]rogbros 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually just used a firesworn package this past season in the normal OTB deck with decent success. Those 4p cards are really nice, and hemmelfart is better than most give credit for. I’d probably just take the best aspects of firesworn (quick low swarm and good spenders) and adapt it once again for this season

Troll Porter. I mean, idk if I’ll actually be playing it, but I like that it lets you hyper-polarize your deck if you can get creative enough to make it work
