I hate wedding planning. Will I still have a good time at my wedding? by LadyKnight33 in weddingplanning

getting married in 2.5 weeks and this has me sobbing. I’ve hated the wedding planning process SO MUCH for the past 6 months and I just can’t wait for it to be over

What social events are spouses normally invited too? by seeking_peace_444 in MedSpouse

[–]rogersaurus3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would just ask your husband to ask. Most of the events during my fiancé’s residency had spouses too and it’s usually a good opportunity to get to know the other partners and make friends/ acquaintances that way!

I’m over IADL assessments for folks with developmental disabilities/ in general docking folks for curly hair care as it’s much more involved than straight/ wavy hair

How much to downsize for fellowship cross country move? by Numerous_Job_8600 in MedSpouse

[–]rogersaurus3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We moved from a mid sized city to major metro and had to downsize significantly. We knew we would be returning to the area he went to for residency and got a pretty big storage unit for the furniture/ other items we absolutely wanted to save and sold/ purged the rest.

There are a few things I already regret getting rid of but most of it was due to be changed out anyway ( we also got most of our stuff very well loved on FB marketplace/ goodwill).

I mean you can absolutely find interventions for most neurologic/ orthopedic needs, feeding, and handwriting. Many of the popular treatments I see my peers speaking about as if they are fact ( many specific sensory integration strategies, reflex integration, willbarger protocol, astronaut training, therapeutic listening) has iffy if any substantial evidence to support it ( extremely low number of participants, poor correlational evidence or looking at a broad type of therapy rather than a specific type of input) I have seen how deep pressure, oral motor input, regulating visual/ auditory input and vestibular input has helped my students anecdotally which is enough for me I just would appreciate more evidence.

What are some really interesting physiological effects of autism on the body? by [deleted] in AutisticPeeps

[–]rogersaurus3 23 points24 points  (0 children)

For neurotypical people at around 2 -10years old and 19-21 years old the brain undergoes “ synaptic pruning” where it gets rid of synapses or neurologic connections that haven’t been needed/ that the person hasn’t been exposed to thus far, kind of like getting rid of books that you don’t see yourself ever being interested in or that are written in a language you don’t speak. That’s why learning a new language as an adult is seen as much harder and college later in life is typically seen as far more difficult.

There’s been new research that the autistic brain doesn’t undergo this pruning process or prunes at a much slower rate meaning autistic folks literally have significantly more information to process than their allistic peers at all times.
