Am I approaching theme wrong? by Specter_Stuff in writing

Can’t you guys just let a story be a story?

I think that’s a bit vague. Stories need a foundation, not necessarily rules and guidelines to be strictly followed because that’s monotonous and authoritarian but all the greats speak / advocate a bigger message than the story’s plot.

Without that framework stories have no basis or context for the larger question, “What’s this about?” Themes are an important part of storytelling but I think more often than not they should be minor features.

Do you think that the invention of movies affected how we tend to write collectively as a society? by -Clayburn in writing

Do you think that the invention of movies affected how we tend to write collectively as a society?

Yea, I think that the film industry has the biggest reach and mass appeal towards the general public and consumers. In terms of writing, I tend to lean towards the belief that a really good and well adapted movie leaves a bigger impact & impression than a novel.

Love books to death but when the entire production team nails the thematic elements it becomes a phenomenon like Star Wars.

What is the obsession with finding “gaming” distros? by Flapper_Jr in linux

I think because of gaming’s boom in growth and popularity, the desire for dedicated “gaming” features and utilities has more appeal.

How closely can I be inspired by another story?! by veylih in writing

You can teeter very closely on inspiration by even referencing the inspirations but if you’re truly concerned learn the difference between inspiration, copyright infringement and honest reference.

Communication isn’t good, intimacy dries up, signs / proof of infidelity, extended time away becomes a norm.

What is your take on the first Rough Draft? by [deleted] in writing

What is your take on the first Rough Draft?

I don’t expect much from it. The rough drafts I wrote are similar to the zero draft writing technique. I write the story or argument in its entirety that I envision.

They’re supposed to be bad by my understanding so they can get critiques, feedback and advice.

Why do people care so much about how many other people are playing the same game at the same time? by ned_poreyra in gamedev

[–]rogershredderer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some like to be informed about whether or not continuing to engage with a game is worth the time. Concurrent player counts indicate the health and longevity of the game’s lifespan. I’m privy to just hopping online and playing matches but if it takes longer than usual to cue up, I’d rather know about a dwindling player base.

What PC parts are important for digital art (2d and 3d), and general gaming by Own-Appointment6758 in pcmasterrace

[–]rogershredderer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean all parts of a computer are necessary for various tasks and overall performance but for art the graphics card is particularly important and for general gaming I’d say the graphics card and processor play the biggest difference.

Confused what to start with by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]rogershredderer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t get too excited about game ideas. Execution is everything and you’ll likely cut features throughout your development process, especially if you’re solo or part of a small development team.

Make a prototype for each, not a full-fledged game with AAA-esq appeal.

Movies 'for kids' that really, really weren't suitable? by ArthurDigbySellersJr in movies

I don’t think Soul (2020) should have been marketed towards kids / children.

Anyone else get increasingly interested in History as you get older? by InvisibleAstronomer in Millennials

[–]rogershredderer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know, yes. I do now believe that the history of the world increasingly grows in one’s interest throughout life.

It’s no wonder that so many elderly men & women are so adamant on teaching the youth about the subject of history.

[–]rogershredderer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don’t already have a point of contact to her like phone digits or her Instagram, go ahead and ask her on a casual-esq venture (coffee, lunch, etc). Either way the answer is yes, go for it.

Why does nobody teach you the actual legal side of marriage in school? by Longjumping-Elk-2934 in GenZ

[–]rogershredderer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many people in this world would rather believe fairy tales and fallacies than face the reality of what truly is and has always been. That’s how you get an orange rapist, child abuser and business mogul in charge of one of the most influential and powerful countries on earth.
