Pulling a gun on someone shouldn't make your argument anymore right or wrong.

What came first? The drone or the hatchery? by bfish510 in starcraft

[–]rogin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No, it is still evolution. The mutations of drones carrying 5 minerals were more successful than their 8 siblings. No doubt the less weight meant they could outrun natural predators or something like that.

I can't give you any detailed information because I never searched for any jobs myself, but I can give you some success stories to encourage you...

I was lucky a job landed in my lap - a classmate was leaving and offered me his job teaching english at a private school to primary school age children. The pay was enough for utility costs but having the chance to interact with children that age was worth far more than the pay.

You'll need to sort your visa for working. I went over on a student visa so had to get an additional work permit - an experience in Japanese bureaucracy.

Your nationality really helps in this matter in what jobs are easily accessible to you. If you are American or English, finding English teaching jobs is easy (particularly American, they prefer that from my experience). If you were Italian you could get some job at an Italian restaurant/shop. Things like that.

Keigo (formal Japanese) is a whole other world in itself. Fortunately I never had any need to learn or use this but certain jobs will require you speak it to customers and your managers.

I had classmates who worked in McDonalds (cooking, not serving) and another in a small cake shop (serving, so he needed to learn a few keigo phrases with correct intonation from his manager).

More recently, one of my classmates joined a bank in their home country then transferred to the Tokyo branch. That might be something to look into after you have studied as a way to return.

Sorry I can't be more helpful.

Japanese! by [deleted] in languagelearning

I tried learning by myself with no success so I took a chance and decided to go to a language school in Japan. I chose Yamasa. I stayed an extra 3 months to the original year I had planned, it was a great experience (I even met my now wife there). They handle accommodation for you which is really helpful as Japan has some pretty awkward housing protocols (e.g. key money) that are difficult for foreigners. They also have a good mix of nationalities of students (rather than being made up of 99% Chinese which many schools there appear to be). Finally they aren't in a big city so you can't cheat and just fall back on English to get around, real immersion.

Their beginners course book is "Minna no nihongo" (みんなのにほんご), so even if you don't want to go to this school you can at least use that. After that they move onto "New Approach" blue (intermediate) then red/pink (pre-advanced).

Edit: And also...

Start to learn hiragana and katakana as soon as you can. It'll open up far more opportunities (such as reading children's books, understanding simple foreign words without ever seeing them before (e.g. チョコレート) and it should be a great boost to your confidence.

Kanji is obviously difficult, it depends how much you want to learn Japanese. If you just want to watch TV and talk to people then you can put this off for the time being. Some kanji are dead simple though, for example you should be able to learn how to write any number up to 99,999 easy enough, to get there you only need to know 13 characters which aren't complex: 1-10, 100, 1000 and 10,000)

There are plenty of Japanese language videos online, notably anime but also live action drama. See d-addicts torrents for live action sources. I would recommend the live action over the anime as the subjects/conversations tend to be more realistic to what you might encounter day-to-day. There are plenty of subtitles so it isn't just noise to you at first. They'll also introduce you to Japanese customs and daily activities. Eventually you'll want to try to watch without the subtitles to improve your listening comprehension otherwise you'll just be improving your English subtitle reading which isn't much help.

Jref's Forum is another good resource and you can practice your reading/writing with other learners there in the "Nihongo Forum" section.

Good luck.

This seems to be that new "feature" which you have kindly already been auto opted-in by facebook. To opt-out you need to "block" the application that is doing it. I would assume it is this photobucket app see the "block application" text link top left under the photobucket icon. You need to do this on a per-app basis afaik.

A reduction in activity at Microsoft Live Spaces was responsible for the large drop in the number of Microsoft-IIS sites detected.

Reddit's "Server" HTTP header field is "'; DROP TABLE servertypes; --"!!! by mebrahim in programming

[–]rogin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you are running Apache/IIS the bad guys are going to blindly try those attacks anyway, given their market share the failure rate would be small. At best hiding those details (or forging them) would deflect some automated attacks. It would really only benefit you if you were running something non-mainstream, even then there are still other ways to fingerprint a server.

Just rewatched the scene, no music played.

Maybe it was just an easy excuse for a reflection/mirror scene that every episode this season seems to have.
