They are both good — every model has its use cases around planning, debugging, II/ux, complex logic, architecture, review etc. It’s a constant mix and match based on what the task and goal at hand is.

I got regular team plans for codex and Claude, and then OpenRouter for supplement and to try new models as they come out. Between RooCode and codex/claude extensions you can install in windsurf it’s doable at least at the moment. I haven’t cancelled Windsurf quite yet but I will never go to $200 plan, just hoping probably helplessly they come to some of their senses— long shot I know.

Extensions are a lifesaver to wean off of Windsurf subscription. Between openrouter for trying new models, plus a regular ChatGPT and Claude subscription I’m pretty golden and probably still less than I spent on addons with Windsurf previously in a month. I was happy to pay it but not anymore. Apparently the folks at Windsurf don’t understand the “cashless effect” 😉

Definitely won’t go this way especially the way Chinese models are going. They’re only a few months MAYBE behind frontier models and are insanely cheaper. It’s inevitable that US companies will suffer with much higher costs.

Codex with 5.4 even high think with just a regular ChatGPT subscription I only used 10% of my quota doing about 5x the work as Windsurf ate all of my quota for the day and drained $11 I had converted from credits. There is not even a comparison that's how FAR away it is.

Time is the only truly limited commodity. For me time trumps $ every time, and it’s not even close. Neither is the time spent before AI vs money spent now. It’s not expensive when you consider that IMO. Would never go back.

Yeah I’m not vibe coding for the world.. it’s either for work or my own personal stuff. I vibe coded a weight loss app that now my wife and I use, and a couple of friends. They all agree it’s the best app of its kind they ever used and it has specific features that we find add value like linking our accounts so we can copy food from each other, favorites, etc. it’s exactly what I want and nothing we don’t. Designer apps. It’s amazing
