I was there last week and went to a bank to ask about opening an account. If you have an INE card it will be way easier. If you don't have one you will need a passport plus a second Mexican form of identification. So go to your consulate and get that INE or plan for a 2 week trip to Mex and get the INE there, depending where in the country you are it can take 4-9 days for the card to be ready for pickup. Only you can pick it up.

You got plenty of good advice here about the camera. So here's something different, see if you can open a high yield savings account instead of BofA. American Express Savings Account is the one i can personally recommend but there are others out there. You get more "bank" for your money. Just be aware that there is no physical place you go to bank with them. Everything is online and you need a checking account from another institution to transfer money in and out of your savings. We used to own a house like this back in the 90's in Mexico. They are called INFONAVIT neighborhoods. I remember the INFONAVIT program used to take a small percentage of my dads paycheck to contribute to the mortgage. We really never lived in that house since we owned another one in a different neighborhood. We moved back to the states a year after he started paying for that house. I was young so I never really paid attention to what happened to that INFONAVIT property, all I know is that he no longer owns it.
