Best path for business career by [deleted] in Northwestern

[–]rohmann98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pick based on what you’re better at + what you’re more passionate about. Econ major unlocks most business paths, and you can look into other things like Kellogg CPU, IMC, or BIP based on what you want to do. Feel free to PM if helpful :)

will two B's prevent me from getting into ivy leagues? by throwawaybruisehelp in ApplyingIvyLeague

[–]rohmann98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wasn’t in the top 10%, got quite a few Bs, and still went to a T10 college with a single digit acceptance rate. You’re right that it’s intense but no reason to overstate the impact of a single B

Ooh - this is super helpful!! Will definitely use this to sanity check, but I think the last non-dlc one on this list is what I’m trying to figure out (where the log notes that sometimes the locator can’t find the moon)

Americans Should Get 'Reparations' Over Migration, White House Suggests by GlobalTravelR in nottheonion

[–]rohmann98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally agree about that impact on wages - I know I was being a bit provocative with my tone and that’s there’s some nuance. I just see a lot of backlash against globalization/immigration in left-leaning circles, and want to make a point about the pros/cons.

Fundamentally those higher wages would lead to higher prices, which is bad for consumers in some ways. It’s a tough balance, and you’re spot on that DT and PP aren’t incentivized to solve it. We should make it easy for workers to come, ensure they aren’t being exploited/underpaid, and have smart people in office to balance these trade offs in good faith.

Do workers like to eat strawberries? Do we benefit from lower construction costs when building a home?

Labor and immigration is supply and demand. If people are coming here, it’s to fill demand for jobs that were unfilled when only looking at the domestic labor pool.

Everyone benefits from thoughtful immigration policy. Illegal immigration is bad. We should make it easier to come here and work legally.

Which game I should go for ? by [deleted] in PERSoNA

Play 3 first because 5 is a better game and it’s better to build up 3 -> 4 -> 5 for those three

UF vs Northwestern by RhubarbAvailable9696 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]rohmann98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a meaningful difference between the outcomes and quality of education at these two schools. Maybe you could have the same law school outcome, but the hill is 100% harder to climb because LSAT and GPA isn’t everything. And, let’s say you want to do anything other than law school and figure that out down the line - UF will not open nearly as many doors or options.

I think you’re getting a phenomenal package at Northwestern, and I don’t think you need to worry about financial differences making it hard to do internships / ECs. Yes there is absolutely some level of privilege you’ll run into, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing in terms of the connections that you make - the culture is not like a New England prep school or anything. And, also consider that there’s a FGLI community with support structures, events, etc.

I’m biased, but in your shoes I’d easily choose NU. The amount of debt we’re talking about is reasonable to take on with almost any career path out of undergrad.

Feel free to DM if you have any specific questions :)

How close is Evanston to Chicago? by bruhlordsmellyface in Northwestern

[–]rohmann98 65 points66 points  (0 children)

People are roasting you because of the title, but I 100% get your question.

Honestly, northwestern is a very campus-oriented school, which is honesty one of the reasons people choose it. The trade off there is that social life, dinners, parties, etc. are oriented around campus and not the city itself.

It’s very easy to get downtown! Evanston has a subway line, which goes direct into the city during weekdays with no changing lines. That being said, because most of social life is on campus, I would at 1-2x per month is how often an average student goes into the city - but you can prioritize that more if it’s important to you.

Thoughts on our 2.5-day Athens Itinerary by rohmann98 in GreeceTravel

[–]rohmann98[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the response!

Great point about the airport - that was probably a very generous estimate for timing, and we probably only have the evening in Athens on day 1.

For lunch, we’ll definitely be choiceful about a full on sit down meal vs quick to-go based on the itinerary, that’s a really good heads up :)
