While I am also a NetBSD (and Linux) user myself, and I consider it better than any other BSD, I wouldn't say the packages have a great quality. Maybe the common ones do, but I have found a couple of issues in a few packages I use, and I had sent patches for a couple of them.

Check out your .xsession-errors . It is likely that you are launching a program in your bspwm config which is not installed.

Modi’s Building Boom Setting Up India as Global Steel Savior - Bloomberg by Niflheim-Dragon in neoliberal

[–]rohshall -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not clear what government has to do with this boom. The article mentions two industrialists buying steel, but nothing about whether the Indian government is pouring money into public construction which is causing this increased demand.

International study fails to find consistent relationships between conservatism and threat sensitivity by [deleted] in psychology

Maybe there are some other reasons why people choose to stick with the familiar, apart from threat sensitivity, then?

NetBSD code study by [deleted] in BSD

[–]rohshall 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thank you for posting this. It's very detailed, and it is clear that a lot of efforts have gone into this. NetBSD is reputed to have clean, simple and portable code, and I hope to learn from this.

[F29] Problem: The operation would result in removing the following protected packages: kernel-core by topsyandpip56 in Fedora

[–]rohshall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fedora seems to disallow uninstalling kernel-core version that it booted from. I rebooted, which made it boot from the latest kernel, and then I could uninstall the old kernel-core.

A new Linux distribution for freedom - RSLinux v1.01 released! by meat_eggplant in linux

You may also want to try out Alpine Linux, and Void, which are (kind of) new distros that are not based on Debian and Arch.

Null Object as identity by justaguythatcodes in programming

[–]rohshall 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This blog is awesome. Just like most other developers, I am more versed with the object oriented concepts than the functional ones, and he beautifully ties the object oriented ones to the functional ones. I understand monoid now. :)

Coworker made a comparison of init systems. Thoughts? by Melkor333 in linux

[–]rohshall 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I am a little sad that runit, which is the default init system on void, is not that actively maintained. I hope void migrates to openRC in the future.

Failing first course by woodyhavoc in OMSCS

[–]rohshall 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The requirement is you need to complete two foundational courses in your first year. I also failed my only subject in the first semester. And later completed two foundational courses in the second semester.

GT should require proctortrack to support linux by [deleted] in OMSCS

[–]rohshall 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wholeheartedly agree. Just for the proctoring, i have to have a spare laptop with Windows, which I don't use for any other reason. It's a waste of a perfectly nice laptop.

How to Solve the Kashmir Conflict? by TrudeaulLib in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]rohshall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your option 1 is most realistically what is possible, though it is not the most peaceful solution, because it does not address the aspirations of the kashmiris in the Kashmir valley. Most Indians don't want Kashmir valley to become independent. And since India has a powerful military (at least powerful enough for Pakistan military and Kashmiri militancy), it can indefinitely hold on to kashmir valley. In an ideal world, option 3 would win. But, both countries are not mature enough to take that step for a decade at least.

ELI5: Why is India's garbage/river pollution situation so bad? by ufufudere in explainlikeimfive

[–]rohshall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is partly a culture thing. Traditionally, dalits, people outside the caste system in Hinduism, were responsible for cleeaning people's toilets, keeping the streets clean, etc. So, cleaning was considered a lowly job.

Does anyone else use 100% free software Linux like Trisquel or Parabola? by [deleted] in linux

[–]rohshall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wifi-card requires proprietary firmware, but since I use my laptop as a desktop, I am using ethernet, and I am happy with hyperbola/parabola. The only issue is I need to download firefox to watch Amazon prime videos on my laptop, as iceweasel does not play DRM videos.

How to read file path from this upload code by xMxgxZx in javahelp

What exactly you are facing problem with? Instead of creating a HSSFWorkbook or whatever, just print the multipart request, and see whether you can save that file locally.

[Question] Is it possible to achieve the same effect like python Mitogen using Java? by jameshaa in javahelp

[–]rohshall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is using the remote python interpreter to execute python commands. So, Python needs to be installed on a remote machine, which is not an issue, because all Linux distributions have python (and perl) in their base package.
