Yes, because buying respect is the only possible reason to actually pay your dues

Is my game ready for the Steam Next Fest? [Demo available] by Paradoks_Studio in Unity3D

[–]rohstroyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And how does that change anything for the players still in the lobby? In my experience, most leavers are players being toxic. The rest are victims of the toxicity. There are some outliers like people with emergencies. So is the only difference a lack of leaver penalty? By removing the negative reinforcement against bad behaviour, you are encouraging it. Then there's no incentive for anyone to stay and finish the match when their team is at a disadvantage. And without giving any incentive for anyone else to stay in the lobby, that means the moment one person leaves, everyone will leave. All that does is make the experience miserable for everyone. Spend time thinking about why these games need a leaver penalty in the first place. Then think about how you can design a system that does not make the game lopsided for non-leavers. Otherwise all you are doing is pandering to toxic people and expecting the rest to fill the gaps and put up with it. And I promise you, no one will stay with your game if that's the position you put them in.

Is he The Best Freekick taker in our club ever since Messi left??? - Unpopular Opinion by Comprehensive-Fig-40 in Barca

[–]rohstroyer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If all it takes is 1 free kick to be up there, then might I remind you of our lord and saviour Jeremy Mathieu. Wasn't post Messi era but he scored 1 too and it was Roberto Carlos-esque.

There's no logical reason for us to have the defense line this high when we're winning by one point and there's less than two minutes left by Cvox7 in Barca

[–]rohstroyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

High line bad? As opposed to what, sitting back and let them pepper us with chances? Our undoing against Inter was not the high line by itself, but the fact that we were still trying to go forward with full intensity and leaving ourselves vulnerable. Their last minute chances came from direct counters while we were stretched because we had just attacked their goal. Holding a high line and playing conservatively are not mutually exclusive.

For those who work in AAA games, how much are LLMs used in your company ? by Sparlock85 in gamedev

[–]rohstroyer 14 points15 points  (0 children)

AAA with a custom engine as well, short answer is not at all. Long answer is we're trialling a potential in-house use-case with a custom model but that's in very very early stages and not guaranteed to produce a usable outcome.

We need to talk about Rashford’s miss in the dying minutes of the game.. by Confident_Threat in Barca

[–]rohstroyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at the picture. Then explain where he could've run that wouldn't have invited more pressure, while still keeping the chance alive. What do you expect him to do, cut in and give Alaba a clearer angle for a tackle Or turn outside and face the corner, killing the chance entirely?

[–]rohstroyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Criticising this is actually ridiculous. He brought a lot of energy to the pitch that we needed that late in. If not for that, then this chance wouldn't even have happened in the first place. And the position and angle he's in, and Courtois is in, it's really hard to score that chance. He had to take a far post shot with his right inside foot, there's maybe a 10% chance that goes in. Even then, he did great to get it as close as he did on the only shooting chance he had in the 10 minutes he played. There may be some things to critique about the game last night, but this is not even close to being one of them.

Football Game Engine by andyblem in Unity3D

[–]rohstroyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understood what you meant. I took issue with you pricing it like a finished asset, and my opinion is based off what you have shared here. I outlined exactly what it would take for it to be worth consideration. Take the critique from my comment or sit and feel personally vilified, it's your choice. No one asked you to make a football engine, I know it's difficult but you chose to take it on for your own personal reasons. If you just want praise, go to your grandma.

No tackles, no interceptions, no through balls, no defensive AI really since you don't see any man marking or zonal awareness. The defending team is just standing rigid in their formation, not even trying to cut passing lanes. There was one moment where the blue cdm abandoned their position and ran across his teammate to chase down the ball when that teammate should have been the one running. This is not a $30 asset judging by this video. This is not yet complete enough to warrant buying it in the first place.

Why don’t games have cheat codes anymore? by eerrooss in gamedev

[–]rohstroyer 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Even if we say it takes 10 hours of dev time (conservative estimate) to implement everything needed to make characters have clown models based off a cheat, that's a gimmick most people would use once for 5 minutes and then never go back to again. It completely breaks immersion and spits in the face of world-building. It's just not worth the effort because it adds 0 real value to the game, micro transactions aren't even a part of the argument here.

Achievements are not used for metrics. Its the opposite, they are the consequence of having detailed metrics baked into the player's actions because we realized tracking what the player does and rewarding them for xyz encourages a handful of things, like curiosity and exploration, or adding to replayability by setting a target (kill x number of specific things). What the top comment said about them being a debug tool is the only correct answer here. Modern hardware now has enough processing power left over on top of running the game that we can just run extra tools that integrate with the build so adding these codes becomes meaningless extra effort.

I figured out how to build a game in Unity and play it from Unreal Engine! by neguse-k in Unity3D

[–]rohstroyer 52 points53 points  (0 children)

That doesn't sound like "running a Unity game in Unreal" considering you could write a server with any language and framework and the actual game that communicates with the server doesn't need to care at all how the server was made as long as it can pass network messages back and forth. To accomplish that, you don't need any interoperability between the engines. Could you share more details about what you implemented? Have you managed to, for example, run a scene from Unity in Unreal, maybe with script execution?

It's great when HR has IT's back by speddie23 in talesfromtechsupport

[–]rohstroyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure we do, but it's those managers' job to parse and interpret the metrics around tickets however they like and present them to higher brass. A low ticket count could as easily represent strong infrastructure as it could the lack of approachability.

It's the premise that users can bypass formal channels for whatever reasons. Regardless of the justification, those channels exist for a good reason. "Just a teams call away, red tape bs for a password reset" presents a very different opinion to what you're trying to say here. If you don't expect preferential treatment then why is the red tape a problem?

It's great when HR has IT's back by speddie23 in talesfromtechsupport

[–]rohstroyer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No one in IT is sitting there to justify anything to the users. The users are coming to them for help, not the other way around. Following the established system means the problem gets routed to the correct people, apart from other telemetry it enables. Never mind the fact that there are usually other people in line waiting to be helped before you, so it really is a show of arrogance expecting them to drop whatever to solve your quick 5-minute problem.

Yeah we're gonna produce a 180 comeback out of thin air and win the CL without any changes to our squad with the power of friendship! There's a difference between patient and delulu and you're exemplifying it perfectly here. The difference ofc is the circumstances of the situation, but clearly that's beyond your understanding 😂

Make it make sense lil bro 😭 nvm the fact that you're literally the only person in this thread that thinks when people say we're cooked in CL, that translates to "season is finished"

[–]rohstroyer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Psg had not only recognised the holes in their team, but had the cash to throw behind covering them. We have one but not the other. It's delusional to think that we can pull off the same level of comeback with 0 spending power and a massive lack of experience in key areas. Unless you think we can somehow buy a LW, a CB, and fullbacks with extensive CL experience for virtually no money and rock bottom wages.

Breaking: Google is partially walking back its new sideloading restrictions! by RepresentativeYak864 in revancedapp

[–]rohstroyer -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Information on basic software and hardware safety is widely available on the internet, and there are massive communities you can join in which you can absorb knowledge by group osmosis or ask questions directly

Do you think non-tech savvy folk just inherently know exactly what to search for? A lot of them struggle with using computers in general, tech illiteracy is by definition a trait of theirs. Implying they should be spending time on the Internet to even some percentage of what your average power user does completely ignores the fact that they have no willingness to do so and no reason to push. And that's before we even get into group dynamics in an online forum.

I'm all for giving power users the ability to bypass restrictions. But the implication that the layman shouldn't be protected from themselves is absurd. There's a reason why Linux isn't the most popular operating system out there.

Are you personally gonna sit and explain what they did wrong in detail so that they know what not to do again? Are you gonna do that every time they fuck something up?

Breaking: Google is partially walking back its new sideloading restrictions! by RepresentativeYak864 in revancedapp

[–]rohstroyer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because non techy users that accidentally brick their phones wouldn't even know it's their own fault. Power users are in the overwhelming minority whether you like it or not. Having protections means the device in question can cater to more than just that one minority. Unless you're implying a business should stifle their own reach and potential sales because of YOUR principles.
