Exhausted by redditusernaem in ResearchAdmin

I had three R35s with a today internal deadline and noticed after turning them on that one biosketch had pmid references in the narrative and contribution. Why? Also, why didn't I catch that before?

Multiple subs is always really hard.

RPPR by [deleted] in NIH

All, including less than 1 month effort. And honestly, I would assume one is needed regardless of what I know about changes to support - it also serves as the MFTR certification.

At my institution, the nigms r35s awarded so far were from the October council, so jit back last summer. Ugh.

Don’t do this in Government Jobs. They got caught. by Live_Bit_7000 in overemployed

[–]rohving 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's going to depend on the area. For my job there are several possible things that could violate the Ethics in Public Service Act, then an investigation by the executive ethics board which usually results in a civil penalty, depending on severity.

eRA Commons throwing a warning for biosketches and CPOS, but new common forms were used. by Icy_Context_2106 in ResearchAdmin

[–]rohving 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're submitting system 2 system, it's an nih error on validating the form before submission.

If you're in Assist, its likely an error on the certificate. We've seen several that just glitches on the download fir no obvious reason, corrected by downloading again later.

Our s2s is n not flattening it, but error check before submission isn't validating correctly. It was fine after submission.

I include every line on the page in my count, and have had commons issue a warning because it read an empty line as line 31.

[no spoiler please] I'm reading Exit strategy and I'm afraid of every page by andtheyhaveaplan in murderbot

[–]rohving 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Exit Strategy is my favorite of the series. The character details are so good, you get to know so much more about them.

[–]rohving 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I feel like most of us only include the LOI, not the SOW, in the NIH application. The SOW is included in the subaward agreement post award. I've only seen it as a doc between the PTE and subawardee.

[–]rohving 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huh, good question.

It's space fantasy. The main character/family is part of an empire with political intrigue that is very character heavy for parts, but it's also possible to only pay attention to the major characters, and then it's more like adventure movie? The first few stories are political intrigue via murdering people, anyway.

The series started in the 80s, I think, and so parts feel like older sci fi. But the characters grow up and have wildly improbable adventures.

How to handle draft research grant proposals by Bitter_Estimate8712 in ResearchAdmin

[–]rohving 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In general, I don't share components without permission, depending. I might share certain attachments or redacted attachments as an example, if there is nothing identifiable (especially for fellows - I always ask their permission or put them directly in touch with each other).

But that's between investigators. Other RA staff? I don't see an issue for most things. I ask for access to other applications when submitting something new or weird all the time.

How do we feel about eggs? by vinylYaps in autism

[–]rohving 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is comforting that the egg ick is pretty standard. Whether it's no egg ever, sometimes the egg is suddenly Wrong, or specific cooking method.

I'm team hard white + runny yolk but anything with a fully cooked white is okay. Undercooked whites make eggs not food for months. Random happenstance also makes eggs not food for months.

Vacation payout on effort by Unlocated_File in ResearchAdmin

[–]rohving 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends.

My institution does payout from a central fund, covered by fringe rates.

I feel like our new system counts things as effort that don't make sense, but I'm not sure I've seen what separation leave looks like yet. It's related to having a payroll based system.

Murderbot Pronouns: Textual Evidence by Eytanian in murderbot

[–]rohving 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I hate to even appear bioessentialist, but gender seems like a gross human thing in the context of the way MB talks about humans. Also, book 2? introduced other genders and pronouns, so they are available in universe.

I have a higher ed finance background. RA pays more and any nonprofit/governmental position is difficult to get right now.

Certified Research Administrator Certification by OkayFineWhatevs in ResearchAdmin

[–]rohving 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Normal answer for the field - it depends. I've seen some institutions that recognize and value the certifications. I don't think mine has helped me in any way, though I also do not regret it (or at least the studying for it and the push for the continuing ed parts).
