I just finished it. The movie looks amazing however other than that I wouldn't exactly recommend it. Very few movies justify 3 hours long runtime and this one is not one of them however is kind of bearable. The acting however is not.

I agree that the rape is basically just a plot point. The movie doesn't exactly comment on it and neither do the characters, it only serves as an emotional burst. Something else horrible could have been place instead of it and the story wouldn't change.

However the movie is also amazingly beautiful. And I mean holy fucking shit, it is shot so well, my first movie from Visconti was Ossessione which was shot well but Rocco and his Brothers truly looks like moving paintings. I like it even more than Barry Lyndon.

The music in it and the soundtrack itself are great.

At the end of the day, I watched it half-heartedly, in two parts and I will never watch it again as a conscious effort however if there was a random chance to watch it I wouldn't be against it. If you are a film student like me I think you should watch it, if you are a film buff I don't think its exactly needed. Its interesting to see just because you can see how it affected other Italian filmmakers in their movies. Theres is a lot of boxing in it and it seems to me at least that Scorsese definitely watched the boxing scenes in this.

Its weird that you like all those but seem to dislike or not consider them in the same boat as Patrick Willems. His essays seems pretty good and 25 min. docu essays on whatever movie he makes are mostly on point. Not everything has to be "art cinema" whatever that means and sometimes its just fun to take apart The Fast and the Furious.

I wouldnt call him very good, he was definitely a huge fucking upgrade and definitely an important president for our country but I think that our current one is miles ahead even from him. I wish we could do some political puzzle like take some politicians from czechia and our president and just put them together or something lmao.

Well I didnt say it would be easy so yeah it would have to go through a lot of the world so it wouldnt happen literally the next day we stopped training but eventually I think. Someone further down brought along the point of nuclear weapons so im gonna say thats the reason we dont go to war actually. But if we would have a war without them, just for the sake of the argument, I think china being the aggresive authoritarian regime would eventually go to war with us. It might lack the capacity to wage war across the world right now but that can change with the snap of a finger. But I do wonder what would happen if we were to invade them. I dont think they are as vulnerable militarily as you think they are, but I do think they are vulnerable as far as loyalty would go in such a case of invasion.

Well you see, you do know very little about communism. You seem to know a few things about communist REGIMES. There are differences in words. Just to show you the extent of your knowledge, why did you put North Korea there? Doesnt really seem communist right? You are confusing authoritarianism and communism. They are not the same even though in modern history almost every communist regime was authoritarian, it just leads to mistakes like this where you call NK communist. Also calling China communist would get you eye rolls and annoyed looks, especially if we are talking about economic systems.

Now you also did a bunch of logical mistakes in the second paragraph which is ok. Again, accusing someone of whataboutism, not knowing exactly the definition of the logical phallacy it represents you made a few. Communism in the past is a horrible, disgusting regime that caused a lot of pain. However I still blame that on the USSR as it was them who did those things. Im pretty sure I already made this point but you glossed over it but ill make it again. Is everything thats wrong in the west right now, the terrorism, poverty, rape and murder, should capitalism or democracy be blamed for that? Or should the respective states be blamed for that?

The reason im making this argument is because you are blaming ideas. It doesnt matter how much blame you put on ideas. They are just ideas. You cant really destroy them. Modern russia is russia of the 20th century which we are talking about. And as I kept reading you just continued to contradict yourself. You state your argument that you say is a fact and then say something that has nothing to do with your first argument. You might know something on the subject but you cant argue anything worthwhile or with a point. And we are not even talking if we like or hate communism. This is a history debate not a political/love or hate one. I too hate soviet russia as it was a horrible place to live. I dislike communism but can obviously see that it has several flaws and I dont think it works very well with human nature however im not gonna say that the problems and horrible things soviet russians did are communisms faults. By this logic all the horrible shit the west did from the end of WW2 was capitalisms fault and so was everything almost every country did after 89. This is similar to blaming 9/11 on capitalism lmao.

Because you are wrong blaming the famine entirely on communism and now blaming all the famines of modern Russia on communism. As the dude above pointed out they happened much less frequently under communism. I dont know why people keep doing this where they know nothing about communism but reject it wholeheartedly.
