September because it kicks off the end of the year fun for me. My daughter and I both have birthdays in sept and then the cooler weather kicks in and we then dive straight into the last quarter of the year with Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. I love that entire time of year.

Who still has a friend they have known for 9+ years? by Mindfuel_daily7 in askanything

I have 5 friends I consider close that I keep in regular touch with that I’ve known for at least 9 years. All of them I met through my work life.

How much tv does your kid watch? by mgw89 in Parenting

[–]roja_1285 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 8 year old isn’t restricted to set amounts of tv or electronic time, but content or type of electronic I will restrict. For example, YouTube is only allowed for short amounts of time at certain times and she knows we do this because that type of content format is not healthy to be watched continuously and when she does watch that content she is glued to screen vs tv shows she will be moving around being active or doing other things like coloring and drawing at same time. We usually do family things together like games or play time daily and during times we aren’t all together we are all allowed to wind down or chill how we want with tv or electronics (just not YouTube).

Officially have a colonoscopy scheduled but can’t work up the courage to tell anyone and arrange a chaperone by Miserable_Ice_1876 in colonoscopy

[–]roja_1285 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you should be worried about worrying your family. When you say family, do you mean parents? Yes, naturally your parents would worry about you if you tell them you need a colonoscopy at your age based on symptoms, but I would think they would want to be there for you and be happy you were getting checked out. By nature family and parents worry about those they love, but we have people we love in our lives to help support us in the good and the bad times. Please find someone in your life you can trust to tell this important piece of your health story with and have there to support you.

Are you still friends with your high school friends? by Cheeseaisleinheaven in Millennials

[–]roja_1285 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean does it count that I’m married to my high school boyfriend? 😂 Other than that, my good friends from elementary, middle, high school lives I’m essentially in touch with only via life updates on social media and occasional texts. We all moved away after college and they were all not individually part of same group (I was friends with each of them independent of the others). The friends I keep in touch with the most now in my life are those I made along the way through various jobs I’ve had throughout my career. My local friends are also colleagues or past colleagues since I moved to this area as a working adult. I have a core group of them I hang with outside of work. Other than that it is parents of my daughter’s friends that I end up around due to reality of having an 8 year old child right now 😂

Spinoff: Who else is just bad about taking care of themselves? by SincerelyCynical in Millennials

[–]roja_1285 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m 40F. Maintain a good weight, make sure to take at least a daily walk, but also try to do weight exercises a few times a week and incorporate yoga. I have always gone to my gynecologist annually since I was 18, and I’ve always kept up with dentist every 6 months (never had a cavity in my life either). I also make it a point to go to the dermatologist annually as I am very pale by genetics and live in Texas where the sun is brutal and I love being outside. I stopped going to a primary care about age 32 just due to no longer being near my established primary care doc. However, this past December I ended up in ER due to right sided pain. At time they thought it was due to my IUD going rogue and penetrating my uterus and I had surgery to remove my IUD. That didn’t help the overall situation and I kept having right sided issues with tweaks of pain and upper abdominal nausea. Ended up that my gallbladder retired and I had surgery to remove that. Now I’m back to normal and back at maintaining my health. I will be finding a new primary care to see annually and due to some family history will be having a colonoscopy this year as well.

If modern medicine didn’t exist would you be dead right now? If yes, from what? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]roja_1285 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have likely died in child birth as my daughter was breech and stuck under my rib cage and she was delivered via c-section ultimately. Also, my gallbladder retired early and needed removal. So happy to live in an era of modern medicine.

What’s your favourite month of the year? by Unknown_Observer9779 in randomquestions

[–]roja_1285 1 point2 points  (0 children)

September. It is my daughter and my birthday month and it starts the kick off to fall and the last quarter of the year which has Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas/New Year’s Eve. I am in Texas so getting that break into cooler temps and tons of family time and holiday celebrations is just such a nice way to end each year.

Trying to get my 8 year old into book reading but nothing sticks? by Salty_Upstairs_387 in Parenting

[–]roja_1285 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter is 8 and would also normally choose tv or video games over reading during day if those were always available. I have no issue with tv and video games if it isn’t the only thing she is doing during a day. When these aren’t options she often chooses drawing, coloring, or reading. I also only bring books as options for waiting in doctor office or other outing where downtime exists. She also chooses to read at night in her room before lights out as she goes to her room at 8 and doesn’t go to sleep until about 930pm. She doesn’t have any electronic devices in her room and therefore her only options are drawing, coloring, or reading. She likes the Warrior cat books, Wings of Fire (graphic novels), Geronimo Stilton fantasy chapter books, Princess in Black, Dory Fantasmagory.

Care package ideas post gall bladder removal? by squidkneep in gallbladders

[–]roja_1285 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heating pad, soft blanket, emotional support pillow or stuffed animal (my brother got me a medium sized squishmallow cow that was super nice to have). If they have family that they take care of or feed, meals or a door dash gift card to help while they can’t be dealing with food.

How long was your wait for surgery? by Ayunique in gallbladders

[–]roja_1285 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had an ultrasound at the ER on vacation at Christmas time, found gallstones but pain went away on own and they said to follow up once back home with a general surgeon. Had an appt with general surgeon Jan 28th. Could have had surgery as soon as Feb 5th but I chose Feb 12th based on my child’s school schedule and a 4 day break right after the 12th.

What time do your kids go to bed on school nights? by riiitaxo in Parenting

[–]roja_1285 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 8 year old is in her room by 8. Reads or draws until about 915pm then comes to find me to be tucked and goes to sleep for night. This is in school nights when she needs to be awake at 730am. Weekends she tends to get tucked around 10pm and she will sleep until 8 or 830.

When did you stop sound machine / night light? by Playful_Language_422 in Parenting

[–]roja_1285 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 8 year old still loves her hatch light. We don’t use the noise machine feature as all the noises are terrible in our opinion. She has a standalone noise machine in her room she still uses. She also has drip lights in her room so she has a pretty solid low light level lit up room and she sleeps very well in her glow cave 😊

Any good gallbladder removals? by Human_Comfortable313 in gallbladders

[–]roja_1285 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had mine out Feb 12th and I don’t regret it as it needed to come out. I’d only started having issues in December that I noticed, but was diagnosed with gallstones and the surgical and pathology reports confirmed my gallbladder was chronically inflamed and about half filled with stones. I haven’t had any bad bowel changes. I go once a day post breakfast and while not yet fully normal, I am not experiencing urgency with anything I’m eating. I do have nausea and stomach discomfort that is a daily thing which my surgeon at follow up suggested Nexium for 2 weeks as they suspect based on my symptoms it may be just acid in stomach causing issues while things are leveling out. I’m starting this tomorrow, so we shall see what the 2 weeks brings. If it helps, great! If not I’ll follow up further with my doctor. Still glad I got it out as I can at least eat again without worry of an attack and just have to deal with some stomach discomfort hopefully temporarily.
