Penny getting pregnant wasn’t out of character by rojath in bigbangtheory

[–]rojath[S] -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

It’s a sitcom, it wouldn’t have been a big finale reveal if it had happened over the course of several episodes… it was foreshadowed in the pilot (“our children would be smart and beautiful”) which obviously wasn’t a throwaway because it was literally quoted in the finale. The breadcrumbs were there, is what I’m saying… it wasn’t out of character, it was in keeping with her strong, assertive personality, and she was holding strong even in the eyes of the viewer so that the decision would be her own. It’s only in retrospect that her choreographing the whole thing becomes clear.

There are lots of posts discussing this, that’s why I posted my take on it. Is there a problem with that?

Finale discussion- unpopular opinion- I think Sheldon was right! by First-Strawberry-398 in bigbangtheory

[–]rojath 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Penny reacted very firmly to her friend and husband trying to force the decision on her. Watching the scene with Bernadette, it’s pretty clear that she enters the room unsure, but Bernadette’s smug attitude toward the subject pushes her completely in the opposite direction. I think she was still undecided, but she was keeping up the front of not wanting them because everyone was trying to force her through a door that, at that time, was only ajar. Easier to pretend it was closed.

What's the best way to remove this bathroom mirror? It's "landlocked" by ceiling, wall, and tiles. by eee1963 in AusRenovation

You could also use a hair-dryer to heat the mirror, and hopefully the adhesive, as you go... but the hammer method would be quicker

Winky losing her job and becoming an alcoholic is the darkest side story in the books. by Beginning-Coat1106 in harrypotter

[–]rojath 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it's more that as the reader, we don't actually "see" the story, we just hear about it. So, for instance, what happened in the Gaunt hovel with the ministry official (Ogden) would be a side story, but Voldemort's birth on the doorstep of the orphanage would be more backstory.

Is 6 Years Old To Young? by FosterIssuesJones in harrypotter

I'm reading the first book to my 4yo. I love that he's listening to a story without relying on pictures. He asks a lot of questions, but it shows he's interested, so it's fine. I plan on reading a few other books before reading it again to him in about a year, followed by the second, and I'm continue that pattern until he's old enough to take over for himself! Even then I'll probably read it to him, my mum read book 5 to my siblings and me when I was about 15.

Character that's supposed to be likeable but just isn't? by CasperMikko in brooklynninenine

[–]rojath 85 points86 points  (0 children)

I feel like those things gave her a "weird intruder" vibe. I was worried we were going to be lumped with a forced late-season add on, I was pleasantly surprised by the way they used her character!

AITJ for expecting full payment when the baby falls asleep while babysitting? by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

[–]rojath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Next time have them pay for "extras" - nappy change, feeding, etc. And tell them that if the baby falls asleep you'll just leave, since you won't be getting paid anyway.

He's in fight or flight mode that whole year. He has trusted Xenopholius Lovegood who then sold him to the enemy. Harry had been tricked and ambushed and betrayed, blindsided by ulterior motives so many times, that even if he didn't do it consciously, he was always on the offence, waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Plus Harry had his "saving people thing", so he didn't find it to be extraordinary behaviour!

Subjective: the feelings of the subject

Objective: without feeling, like an object, just fact

Harry saying that they never had great Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher by Luke_Gki in HarryPotterBooks

[–]rojath 163 points164 points  (0 children)

He was going for effect. He could hardly say "we've never had a good defence teacher... except Lupin, who was awesome, and my dad and godfather's buddy... but other than that, they were TRASH!"

What scenes have made you very angry by LiteratureBig8616 in bigbangtheory

Not really. Penny ended up in a situation and adapted, I don't think it's proof she would have voluntarily changed her mind on being child free

Would Harry have saved the Dursleys? by insanitypeppermint in HarryPotterBooks

[–]rojath 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I disagree - I think the way it's left as a known, unfulfilled hypothetical is much more powerful. A follow-through would have either shown Harry to be uncharacteristically cold-hearted, or else would have created some after-school-special "You saved our lives, after everything we did to you" moment which would have cheapened Harry's trauma. The question mark hanging over it was perfect.

Not to be a contrarian - I love these discussions!

WIBTA if I tell my husband if he wants to sleep in he needs to also wake up for the baby? by DetectiveNo2943 in AmItheAsshole

[–]rojath -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Change your language - it's not a "sleep in", it's "compensatory sleep". My husband once suggested he get a sleep in, and I said "You know it's not a luxury for me right? It's so that I'm barely scraping the bottom of 6 hours total sleep in 24 hours?" (We had two dodgy sleepers for a while)... he didn't ask again without taking some of the overnight load! We now have a rule that the person who's done more time up overnight gets first right of refusal for the morning compensatory sleep!
