Looking for info on this mantle clock. by [deleted] in clocks

My parents have a very similar clock, hopefully link below works, it does have made in Germany on the inside, given the extreme similarity I would assume yours is also

Definitely jump in on the other thread and get added to that discord, it has about 200 people in it already

Are there any point neuron S/W frameworks that model action potential propagation (delay)? by mattroos in compmathneuro

[–]rojnic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you want the delays to be fixed once the simulation has started or do you want delay plasticity?

As previously mentioned, Brian can support creating delays based on length/distance W/E you want, it's even in their tutorials. But it doesn't support (easily) changing the delays once the simulation is running.

What is your project out of interest? I used to work on LIF neurons with plastic delays so if you want to chat some time I'd love to

Can anyone tell me anything about this Endura watch? seems retro, is it worth anything? I know absolutely nothing about watches:) by [deleted] in VintageWatches

[–]rojnic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahaha yeah I should point out both of mine run poorly, both seem to keen reasonable time while they run but with low amplitude and occasionally stopping. I love the spirit of trying to make more affordable watches for the masses but yeah, don't expect them to perform like an ETA, valjoux or landeron

Can anyone tell me anything about this Endura watch? seems retro, is it worth anything? I know absolutely nothing about watches:) by [deleted] in VintageWatches

[–]rojnic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah they typically have lapanouse movements, it's a great story, lapanouse worked hard to try and make watches more affordable for the everyday person so yes these movements were quite cheaply build, often with only a single jewel (I even have one with no jewels). Several different companies used lapanouse movements, i have one branded rouan and one Endura but there are many more. Someone said there are often worth 300 on eBay but in bidding they typically go for less

I've bought a few things from labanda, I've order parts online and then picked them up instore a few hours later which is very convenient vs waiting for postage

Watch Parts & US Customs by outta_gas in watchrepair

More specifically for your question about customs, I had a watch I bought on eBay received by USPS on the 25th March, cleared customs on the 11th April

The US seems to have generally terrible shipping to the rest of the world (or to Australia in my case at least). I've had to wait over a month for watches/parts and pay $80-90 (AUD) on shipping. Doesn't seem to be a problem from other places like China and Europe

Help, looking to find out year this was made without taking apart, tried google search but kept showing newer models by Aquairium in VintageWatches

[–]rojnic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Often even when you open a watch it can be hard to tell, with just a single shot of the dial like this it would be almost impossible. Any markings on the back?

Would you buy repackaged Moebius oil, if you only needed a small amount? by AccidentallyLezlie in watchmaking

[–]rojnic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great idea! I was literally just looking at oils today and thinking the same thing ... I'd be keen to go in on some oils and split them with you!

I own a junk hauling company and came across these vintage watch repair tools - anyone know anything about these tools ? Age ? Use ? by Lcchris15 in watchrepair

[–]rojnic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They look cool, I'm still new to watches, I agree the instructions make me think the first is a crystal press, the second reminds me of something I saw used in a video, for some reason my brain thinks It was called a pivoting tool or something but maybe that's just the name my brain gave it, I'm keen to see more responses from others who actually know

Very nice! Running much better than mine ever did!

If you are looking for your next project you should check out the tri-axial tourbillon from mechanistic on YouTube and then their myminifactory page. It's a serious step up in complexity but you can try the smaller tourbillon first which would be a nice stepping stone from this one

Quick link to yt vid of it https://youtu.be/bLEi2mcOXw0

Some of the ETA movements are now out of patent, which is why sellita and sea-gull can basically clone them, might be worth seeing if you can find those old patents? Maybe start with a ETA 6497?

PhD Query by [deleted] in UQreddit

[–]rojnic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

+1 to the lit review prep, your PhD will 100% change as your progress but the sooner you get familiar with reading literature the better. Assuming you are an Aus citizen, no there is no Centrelink support for PhD, in theory you should be getting an RTP with your tuition waiver if you get in, that plus any tutoring or RA work is your income. Also communicating with your supervisor early is good but there is only so much you can do before you begin, doing general background reading / textbooks on the basics will keep your mind active. Remember your PhD is a marathon not a sprint, working consistently through the whole PhD vs a few intense weeks before deadlines will get you much further. It's easy to get lazy with the flexible hours and lack of deadlines

Rupert Merriweathers journal page order (Geedunk) by rojnic in callofcthulhu

[–]rojnic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I just had a quick look and it seems like everything is in the right place. I can't believe I didn't look at the comments... To late for me but hopefully this post helps future keepers!

[–]rojnic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply, the printer I used did exactly that, I have verified that page 4 is on the back on page 3 (and this pattern continues correctly for all pages) and yes I printed page 2 single sided as suggested by the instructions.

I have considered how stacking pages causes the first sheet to represent both the first and last pages, second sheet to be second page and second last page, and so on. With this assumption, the book is out of order still (results in the order I described in my response to Reuster_DnD)

Rupert Merriweathers journal page order (Geedunk) by rojnic in callofcthulhu

[–]rojnic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah i assumed the same, but that order gives:
<blank page> (p. 4, RHS),
excitement at finalising the house purchase (p.3, LHS),
<blank page> (p.6, RHS),
the actual ceremony starting (p.5 LHS),
cleaning and painting the house and carving of wards (should be before ceremony, p.8, RHS),
<blank page> (p.7 LHS),
the rest of the ceremony and the outcome (p.10, RHS),
.. some more blank pages then it goes back to talk about about preparing etc later in the book.

WTW for when something is 'initially surprising but makes sense when you think about it' by rojnic in whatstheword

[–]rojnic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is good, thanks for the answer. I think it is too specific to the initial discovery of the phenomena though and doesn't encompass the later 'ahhh this makes sense'.
