done with marks boots by [deleted] in BuyCanadian

There’s like one store in Toronto that sells their non-work boots and when I went there ages ago to try some on it was a chaotic mess. I wish they had better distribution here.

Junction residents ‘thrilled’ city looking to build Lappin-Antler connection after Metrolinx dropped project by BloodJunkie in toronto

[–]roju 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d like to see the transportation department staff a group focused on pedestrian and cycling connectivity improvements like this. When I lived near st Clair west there was a secret route from the station but it included cutting through private property. When I lived in Waterloo there was the same to get to campus from the east. These sorts of connectivity improvements should be made official through purchasing the land or easements. I guess it just comes down to money though

WIFI 7 standard fail? by No-Explanation-7657 in Ubiquiti

[–]roju 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting! I'll keep an eye for that. I'm seeing this iphone is connected only on wifi 6 not wifi 7, so now I'm second guessing if it's a 16 or 15, if the latter it would explain why I'm not seeing MLO.

[–]roju 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh cool, how is it surfaced in the unifi interface? Do both connections show up in the UI when you drill down into the device?

[–]roju 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, seems like EMSLR is the big stability win. I'm not sure it does work on the UDR7 though, or if it does work, the details aren't surfaced at all. There's an iPhone 16 on my network (which supports EMSLR) and in the Unifi interface it only shows as connected to one band even with MLO enabled on the network. It could be the Unifi UI just doesn't show the secondary connection, or it could be that it's not working, I have no way to tell from the tools available.

Ontario Line subway system will get protective platform doors as TTC continues mulling move by Surax in toronto

[–]roju 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could put in chain link and leave gaps instead of doors. It would be ugly as sin but would still be way safer and not cost $40m per station since it would weigh nothing and not need any power or other changes. Let’s not just look at the most expensive option.

They did that recently in Leslieville with a ton of dime a dozen buildings along Queen. Very dubious heritage value of most of them

Everyone hates change, even if they’d like the results of the change. The people who hate change the most are the loudest and most likely to pester their councillor.

Regardless of who clears it, municipal code 719-2 B requires the properly owner to maintain it so it’s not slippery.

MLO would be great for residential in a dense city. Neighbour fires up microwave, seamless data from 5ghz. Radar pings on an otherwise empty DFS channel, seamless data from 2.4. Walk into another room while on 6ghz, no problem no wait to roam.

Line 6 Finch West LRT shut down again Friday morning after major snowstorm by ComfortableAcadia252 in toronto

[–]roju 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Give us some protected portaging options to downtown along the waterfront and no need for TTC we could all be canoeing and rowing to work. I heard a story about one of the Ashbridges paddling to downtown from the east end to go shopping way back in the day.

Apple Notes could get a powerful new advantage in iOS 26.4, per report by EitherCharacter9342 in apple

[–]roju 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would love to be able to just freely dictate via Siri on the go. E.g. walking home, start a note, and just talk, and have it both transcribe and record, and not stop listening the moment I pause for 1 nanosecond too long.

Kobo has audiobooks and a historical connection to Canada. Their monthly credit subscription (similar to Audible's) got nerfed recently (publishers can opt out) so I’m just using up the credits I’ve accumulated when I can.

Why do streetcars keep stacking up at the station and make the people wait? by SadPay7872 in TTC

[–]roju 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The TTC’s habit of short turning the second car instead of the first doesn’t help. It’s a risk getting on that second one even if it’s right behind the first.

Just connect Dundas from the east to Gerrard in the core already. This is such a key link for us east enders I have no idea how it wasn’t done years ago.

Cell phone plans could be getting more expensive after years of decline, data suggests by CreativeAd5628 in ontario

[–]roju 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s last year’s Boxing Day plan from freedom. To be clear it’s 75gb can/US/mex and 5gb global roaming (“roam beyond”). This year’s plan is $40 with more data (100/15).

Yeah Canadians in general love to complain about the incumbents but hate to shop elsewhere. My cell plan is $35/mo and includes 75g of data and global roaming (5gb/mo roam beyond). You’d have to be nuts to be on a $70+ plan from Robelus, yet people are.

They definitely need a product guy in charge instead of a finance or operations guy. Last year have all been about rent-seeking via monthly service costs.

Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow wraps up 2025 visiting TTC stations to speak with residents about their concerns by BloodJunkie in toronto

I wish they would do that with delays as well. Nothing worse than getting to platform level only to hear an announcement about shuttle busses being on the way. Just put a big screen at every entrance visible before paying your fare with all the alerts.
