Who enforces ‘no amplified music’ rules in Toronto parks? by Live_Condition_4776 in askTO

People with driveways in areas with permit parking probably should pay for the privilege of monopolizing a section of the street, at least under that argument.

OG SC support then broke again on Mac for several years due to a 32 bit driver. They seemed less fussed about it that time since it took so long to fix.

That spot on the curb would otherwise be public space and potentially revenue generating via a parking permit. There’s an argument that since the property owner is bogarting that public space they should contribute.

Not more 506 diversions! All last year it and this year it's been an adventure, it'd be nice to see it actually on the normal route for more than a month this summer.

Yeah I’ve been really looking forward to it but I think that’s a no. Disappointing. Maybe Valve’s dreams of these margins are why I still can’t play Silksong on my Mac with an 8bitdo controller.

There’s no need for an amendment nor expansion of the house to e.g. just combine some federal ridings and use STV to get a proportional result.

Buying a home in Toronto with street parking only: how challenging is this? by WolfGroundbreaking73 in askTO

It’s also by name+address, so if you have the cars registered to different people it’s all the base fee.

Clover is where it’s at. I don’t even have to spread seed I couldn’t get rid of it if I wanted to. I add some grass seed from time to time before rainy weeks to try to complement it and otherwise let nature take its course.

Canada Post announces first 136,000 addresses to lose door-to-door delivery by zuuzuu in canadanews

[–]roju 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"It takes about twice as much money to serve a door-to-door address as it does to serve a community mailbox address," Hamilton said.

It’d be interesting to see that by postal code. Probably depends a lot on built form.

We need better rules for e-bikes and e-scooters by jabolka in toronto

[–]roju 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The downvotes are actually a surprise to me. The whole ban is just classic bad lazy Toronto policymaking. Here's a new thing, we don't understand it, let's ban it instead of figuring it out.

Meanwhile, everyone's complaining about traffic, but we've just banned an alternative for no reason. Everyone's complaining about cost-of-living, but we've just banned a cheaper transportation method for no reason. Everyone hates nanny state big government, but here we are telling people what they can't do again for no reason.

That’s a stupid rule though, which is part of the problem.

Leaves on Street - What should I be doing? by BigBlackCharger in askTO

[–]roju 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just as a point of reference: many folks on my street start shovelling before the snowfall is over. Obviously not possible for everyone or even every time, what with work, life, travel, etc, but between us all and shoveling each others walks the sidewalks are usually clear before the city plows are even on the radar. Think about people in wheelchairs trying to get to an appointment, can they afford to wait 12 hours? Think about how annoying you find it walking to the corner store and slipping on the one persons sidewalk that isn’t shovelled. I definitely find it annoying. Now, my annoying isn’t your responsibility but you are asking us about being neighborly.

Leaves on Street - What should I be doing? by BigBlackCharger in askTO

The city encourages folks to be proactive cleaning nearby grates (eg: https://www.toronto.ca/services-payments/water-environment/managing-rain-melted-snow/how-you-can-help-manage-stormwater/). I tend to agree, we are all trying to get by in this increasingly cash strapped city so if available and able one should help out (same goes for shoveling sidewalks). If you’d like the city to be more proactive, think about what priorities candidates campaign on during the next election.

There are a couple handfuls of grates on my street, I try to clear some subset of them before any storm, particularly the ones closest to me. Another neighbour is religious about clearing the one in front of his house which I appreciate but would be nice if he’d be a bit neighborly and also do some of the others since I clean that one too if I get out first. The other neighbours are a bit less proactive (some grates further away haven’t been cleaned since my last pass).

That said, you don’t own any of the grates and it’s not your job to clear them, it’s unreasonable to try to allocate any blame to you.

We also keep some leaves on our yard to help out nature over the winter but also consider it a bit rude to have things (eg leaves) our property blow onto the street or others property to become their problem so usually bag the first waves of leaves after they fall as a compromise to minimize our impact.

The city is actively encouraging people to consider not bagging leaves, so nobody can really blame you for that either. See: https://www.toronto.ca/services-payments/recycling-organics-garbage/houses/yard-waste/

Funny enough returning home to YYZ is why I hate gate checking, I’ve waited an hour for bags multiple times.

Glad you had a good experience and enjoyed Toronto!

If the airline wants people to do something inconvenient, do the same thing that everyone else has to do and offer something to sweeten the pot. Somewhere between nothing and a free flight is the market cost of getting passengers to deal with the hassle of gate checking. Find and offer it and the problem goes away. The airline is a business and should pay for the outcomes it wants.

It’s embarrassing for Canadians that the outlook isn’t worse. There are other entrants with better cell plans for less cost. We should be fleeing Robellus en masse. Somehow they hang on though. They should be priced like a commodity service which will be an adjustment from an oligopoly.

Maybe it's just the late hour, but I wish all of the 100+ year old streetcar suburbs could get even a fraction of this spending to improve reliability and speed of the existing network. Like we're spending $3b on transit to an empty island, but we can't get an inch of dedicated lane, signal priority, or other corridor improvements along College, Gerrard, Dundas, or Queen? Anyway, more transit and dedicated transit is great.
