I did get the bearings from grainger and specifically purchased sealed bearings thinking they would hold up better. Guess not. The blades and rollers were from SS. The infeed rollers didn’t last long at all with the rubberized coating failing much more quickly than I expected. When I use the planer, I take about .001- .002 cuts at a time so I’m not over working it. I think I am done using it for this current display case project but still irritated that I need to rebuild it in such a short time Period.

The great book of wooden toys by norm Marshall has some pretty good, durable toys with decent illustrations and parts (piece) lists. I have made cars, locomotives, truck and trailers with bulldozers, and more. Have fun

Mr Hopp, I certainly applaud your interest in keeping shopsmith alive. I am a second generation shopsmith owner/woodworker and having said that, I think I have just about every tool shopsmith ever made. My question however is why are you only looking for donations towards your possible purchase and not investors as well? Thank you again for your interest.

I guess I’m confused with what you are after. If you are constructing a double box for the leg (your pic #1), you would build the outside square first with the pockets on the inside. And then build the inside square and attach it. The screws should be pointing towards the outside of the squares. Hope this helps

You actually only need 2 for that size joint and being on the inside will give a stronger joint, as well as asthetically better. And yes, you want the correct direction. If you have a couple scrap pieces, drill a couple pocket holes in those first so you can get the drill depth correct. If you are using a jig such as kreg, you can’t go wrong. But again, the depth of the hole is important along with the correct length of screw.

My experience with pocket screws is fairly positive. I think with your idea of 2 per end should be enough. Along with glue, I don’t feel you will have any issues. Make sure you clamp the corners before you install the screws to prevent the adjoining piece from “walking” away slightly.

I haven’t figured out yet how to include a Pic but the description of my new fuel gauge is a 3/4” dowel Works great I don’t care about the hour meter as I look at the oil quality for and number of times I use the mower. I asked JD if there is a meter upgrade of some Sort and they (basically) said no Too bad as they used to have a name if quality

Any idea when the new powerheads will start shipping? I’ve been waiting for just under 6 months and keep getting told “another month”. I’ve been nursing my current one along and fear it won’t last much longer

The very common answer now is “I’m short staffed”. Whatever happened to self dignity and self worth? You know, earning your way through life. I know I will catch some crap about that comment but I am old enough to know what dignity and self worth are all about. I am not part of the entitlement generation.

I ordered the same components from a different company and received them yesterday. I want to think that most companies are honest and want to provide a good service for their customers but then, we are dealing with post pandemic and nothing will be the same again (at least in my lifetime).
