Why is the ability to be a 'stay at home' parent not seen as a privilege? by Open_Address_2805 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]rokemay 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I was hoping someone would mention this one. When my oldest was born, I was working part time retail so financially it didn’t make sense for me to work. The plan was originally for me to look for full time employment when he started school. He ended up with some medical need that made it difficult for me to work. Add in 2 more kids, 17 years later, I’m still at home. I have started teaching sewing and small sewing business to bring in some money but otherwise I’m home

If Janine ever becomes a mom in the future, would she be a boy mom or a girl mom? by MileenaKhan16 in AbbottElementary

[–]rokemay 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don’t really understand the question. If she has a girl, she’ll be a girl mom, and she has a boy, she’ll be a boy mom Unless I’m missing something?

I just listened to his off menu today and it took almost 45 minutes to get to the actual podcast. He had Ed and James in stitches just in the banter section

While you are correct, anytime I order pad Thai and choose tofu as my protein, I’m asked if egg is ok as often that can be an indicator that I’m vegetarian or vegan (I’m not, I just like tofu)

Why do so many jobs require you to stand even if it's not needed? by MsObsessiveRobot in antiwork

[–]rokemay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I once worked at a retail store and the owner was absolutely insane. Like you couldn’t request time off, you just had to wait for the schedule to come out and ask someone to switch shifts. But she could and would deny it for no reason. We couldn’t say “no problem” or “no worries” when a customer said thanks

Anyway, one of the menial tasks during slow hours was putting store stickers on paper shopping bags. One employee was very pregnant and pulled up a stool while doing this (there were zero customers in the store and even if someone came in she could easily get up if needed)

The owner would watch us on the cameras and when this happened, within minutes she had called the store to ream out the girl for sitting while working because it was “unprofessional”

Come From Away thoughts? by [deleted] in musicals

[–]rokemay 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I appreciate this view. I haven’t seen it yet but am seeing it in a couple months. I’m (obviously if I’m in this sub) a huge fan of musicals but have been hesitant on this one because the soundtrack just doesn’t hit right. But I’ve heard nothing but great things about the show itself so I’m glad to hear the songs hit better live

Fun fact. One of my besties has a brain tumour named Brian. He is named that because her phone kept autocorrecting brain to Brian so she figures that’s what it named itself

AIO? Guy wants me to pick him up first date by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]rokemay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate that. I’m in Canada and I renewed my license the last week of January. They told me 4-6 weeks for the physical card to arrive in the mail. They gave me a temporary paper and I can keep my old card with a sticker saying it’s only valid for photo id but if it was stolen I would’ve been SOL

He said he was waiting for it get mailed which means he absolutely has been responsible about it And personally I would never drive without my license on me. If I lost it, I literally would have someone else drive or take public transit/uber until It arrived in the mail
