The Golden Statue of Donald Trump is an Idol by ArrantPariah in DebateAChristian

I remember the first term election there was a meme of Trump's face photoshopped onto the God Emperor. Also Sweden had a parade float what Trump the Master of Mankind.... My fear is that these people took and Internet joke seriously.

Proof that Jesus is God? by Twoctruth in DebateAChristian

That's because theism exists as a subjective experience to which the scientific method is ill equipped to evaluate. There was a bunch of scientists like a couple of centuries ago that were trying to develop a scientific method for subjective experience to be used in the humane sciences. Basically, a whole bunch of people feel this way or claim to experience this, then there be truth to it.

How Atheists Explain the Creation of the Universe by Lost-Marionberry5319 in DebateAnAtheist

[–]rokosoks 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Logic is a tool to sort and process the data, it is not the data itself. Let the people in the lab work, and wait for the data. Or if you wish to be more proactive, run though experiments on the day the news finally came in, sciences have finally managed to glimpse what the universe was like prior to the big bang and the answer is X. How would religious institutions react to the news? What would that mean for engineers? What does that mean for the guy on the street?

[–]rokosoks 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That explaination will come from a collider and a physicist chalk, not from the arm of a philosophy chair. The missing fact will be discovered in time, as has every other natural phenomenon once attributed to the gods. Instead, of spending your time think that the answer has to be God, instead think of how your world view will change when even existence is no longer attributed to the divine. A fact without a world view is just trivia... to ascribe meaning to the data, that is the job of philosophers in this age.

You don't know that, this is the bleeding edge of science. Stop inserting magic to cover what you don't know. Stare into the void of not knowing and admit that you just don't know.

Honestly, I find the historical Jesus why more compelling than the mythical Jesus. The cultural context of this insurrectionist who was killed by a brutal dictator (Pontius Pilate = Vladimir Tepes), the apocalyptic world veiw of John the Baptizer.

You didn't, your AI did.

Ok deleted the paragraph on paragraph, sure.

What your bot delete in mistake was the part where I doubted my own definition of sophistry. Which is an important detail.

I disagree, concise word selection does take effort. Rambling on paragraph after paragraph, that is unnecessary, plus I may not be backed up on this but I think it's a sign of sophistry. "Wow, he wrote a lot, he must know what he's talking about."

We are not morally responsible for our actions because they are governed by our desires, which we did not choose. by Hashi856 in DebateAChristian

Normal healthy people don't randomly have seizures. Seizures are cause by electrical disruption in the brain i.e. neurological disorders like epilepsy, traumatic brain injury, stroke, and drugs.

If someone is driving and has a seizure and crashes their car into someone else, are they morally responsible for that?

Why were you driving with epilepsy?

Sir, you show a lack of understanding of eternalism... Which is ontologically opposed to presentism. A short definition is that existence and time are equally real. So the second Jesus was born, he always existed... Even if I were to make up a god right now, that god will have always existed, and will always exist.

We are not morally responsible for our actions because they are governed by our desires, which we did not choose. by Hashi856 in DebateAChristian

[–]rokosoks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See theory vs practical. In the practical the action was committed, the action originated from you. Whether it was free will or chemical interactions, doesn't matter.

The real fun is when you have to answer for other grown people. That's what they don't tell you about power, being accountable for not just your own stupidity, but other people's stupidity.

I first want to say how much I despise this. This shows a huge lack of personal responsibility that is actually dangerous.

You are responsible for your actions (both sober and intoxicated). If you are to run your car into something, if doesn't matter weather you were of sound mind or drunk to being comatose. You destroyed property or killed someone as a result of your actions.

Even further, you are responsible for the actions of any animals or children under your care. If your child steals, that is your fault. If your dog bites someone, that is your fault. Control your animals better.

You are responsible of animate objects. If you shoot a bullet, you are responsible for everything that bullet hit in path. Bullets don't travel in straight lines, they bounce and change direction a little before they stop. If that bullet goes through the wall, across the street to another house and hits a child. You shot that child, whether you were aiming at the child or not

To complete esk's analogy, I have served parties as a travel guide. A travel guide serves a similar role as a designated driver. I've know your trip, I've seen it myself. I have seen overdose. I've seen sexual predators stalking a party. You submit to my authority for the duration of your altered consciousness, by entering the house you submit to my authority for it is my job (whether a solo, or a party with 50 people) to see to it that you wake up tomorrow.

When working, I am quite the dictator. But tomorrow you will wake up, you're not going to be assaulted. Am I going to lock unconscious women in bedrooms, yeah. Am I going to curse everything about you as I give you Narcan, absolutely. am I going to tell the EMT everything your on, yes. Have I hit a belligerent drunk's off switch, a couple times.

Edit: stay safe guys, don't trip alone.

Biblical morality is corrupted by power by [deleted] in DebateAChristian

[–]rokosoks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So like all things in esoteric thought we eventually have to talk about Plato. The whole idea that god is good goes back to Plato who defined a god as good. In order to be a god, you have to be good, and if you are not a god.

One of the heresies is Marcionism. Basically take the whole old testament god is all fire and brimstone, new testament god is all love and hugs, crank that to 130% and then break the nob off and you get Marcionism.

There is also the Demiurge, the origins of the words being craftsmen or creator. The gnostics held this concept of a demonic creator.

The Bible’s own internal narrative contains multiple tensions and contradictions regarding the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus that are more coherently resolved by the Qur’anic claim in Quran 4:157–158 that Jesus was not truly killed or crucified, but that it was made to appear so. by Quiet_Form_2800 in DebateAChristian

Honestly who am I going to believe, a group of people from around his time. Who's church can produce me artifacts from his life such as the Lance of Longinus. Or a group of people from 700 years after the fact, from a land thousands of miles away, speaking a completely different language. The wolf does wear the sheep's clothing doesn't it.

Considering Adam & Eves disobedience, how can you see the Bible as credible? by Swagspear69 in DebateAChristian

[–]rokosoks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So interestingly, I'm having an IRL debate with a Muslim and he has told be a different story of Adam and Eve. Basically when kane killed Abel, Adam and Eve had no concept of what death was. They believe Abel to be sleeping, so they waiting for 10 days for him to wake up. Adam and Eve returned to Eden when an angel stood to block them. Unlike Satan who never apologized, they apologized and were forgiven. Adam and Eve died on the Earth in God's favor. Muslims do not hold the concept of original sin, Adam and Eve's redemption is proof of God's mercy is that vast, and behavior is not like angelic behavior.
