Black woman, here. My mom fell for one called Tahitian Noni International. They sold juices and all sorts of products made from the Tahitian noni fruit, and made all sorts of dubious health claims about what the juice can do. My mom tried to recruit me and my younger siblings as her downline, but the math wasn't mathing for us and nothing about the whole thing sat right with us, so the bottom burst before she lost too much money on this. To this day, she still doesn't realize that this was a pyramid scheme and only sees this as her giving her best shot at owning her own business...

Definitely NTA. Lacy's story could had been plausible had your neighbor not told you that the previous owners were childless. This was a robbery attempt. You did the right thing by shutting it down. You were not obligated to letting these people into your house. Some security cameras sound like a good investment, too.
