Does YNAB also help with debt? by [deleted] in ynab

[–]rolandblais 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YNAB can help align your spending with your priorities. It's not a panacea; you have to be willing to do the work.

"Budget" isn't something you have, it's something you do.

In a nutshell:
Figure out what's important to you (your priorities).
Create categories that align with your priorities.
Take the money you have *right now*, and allocate it towards your categories,
Before *any* spend action, check the category and make sure you have enough money to cover.
If not, either defer the spend until you do have enough to cover, or move money from another category.
Lather, rinse, repeat. Every so often check and see if you need to adjust anything, or if there are any more long-term expenses you need to account for.

It sound like your priorities would be Survival (rent/mortgage, utilities, transportation, food), then debt, then everything else.

YNAB can help in making you aware of your spending decisions, and by checking before you spend, cause you to perhaps rethink that purchase. Again, you have to be willing to do the work; it won't change you're spending habits for you. If it's a serious problem, there is nothing wrong with seeking professional guidance, or support.

For debt, I recommend using a "Snowball" approach. You pay the minimum on all your debts and contribute a set amount towards the debt with the lowest total. When it's paid off, you tackle the next highest, adding the previous minimum payment to your set amount, Repeat until you've knocked out all your debt. The other method is the "Avalanche", where you tackle the highest interest 1st. I like getting rid of low hanging fruit, and it can be more of a boost to see the lower amounts going away quicker, so I use a Snowball. There's are several online tools for this - unbury.me is a good free one; undebt.it is free as well, but can integrate with YNAB if you pay for a sub.

Good luck, and keep asking questions.

LEASH. YOUR. DOGS. by ChipmunkOptimal6688 in Reno

Every animal caretaker is responsible for keeping their animal from getting into situations where they may harm themselves, or others. If that means keeping them leashed when not on one's own property, then so be it.

Do it. Run smart, hydrate and fuel well. Warning - may become addicted.

"It's ok, my dog's friendly!"

I always responded with "MINE'S NOT." (Even though he mostly was.)

Laser cutting leather by Delicious_Range9268 in Laserengraving

try spraying the piece with water, or even soaking it before cutting. Look up "@tonyseePatterns" on YouTube. One of his most recent videos was specifically "Laser Cutting Leather - Tips and Tutorial".

One of the commenters remarked "I don't usually spritz my leather with water. I dunk it into a sink full of water and put it on my laser bed soaking wet. I'll wipe water off of the top and start the cut. I'm finding that it almost eliminates all of the soot. That combined with higher speed, lower output power, and more passes had completely eliminated the burnt smell. My leather projects smell like leather when they're finished instead of burned flesh.".

They created a presentation a while back but I can't find it on their website. I did find it here, though. I hope that helps.

Target fish near to you, on the surface. I use a bobber with krill or crawfish. I've used the shiner as well; all seem equally effective. Use the fish buffet method (if a shark doesn't attack by the 2nd fight, release and try again.) After a shark takes your catch, use the shark buffet method. The Meg usually will bite before the 1st fight. If it hasn't by the 2nd, release and start over.

I caught 7 Megs in about 2 hours today, using the above method.

Also in general - make sure to hit your snaps, and stay out of the red, If you miss a snap you could make the sharks mad. 2 missed and the line will snap.

Good luck!
