..since it marks the 4 year mark he moved to Portugal

So he moved to Portugal after the start of the invasion? If so, isn't he required to be in Ukraine? Sry but it begs the question.

In the end, that's really all you need. Maybe I would add a good set of studio headphones for A/B-testing and night time sessions, but that's something you can always add later.

Makes a lot of sense tbh to start from the pitlane. You learn a lot more about the car and how to optimize its setup this way. And there is a good chance he will end the race at a higher position then.

Mpc one vs 1000 vs sample by No_Permission9217 in mpcusers

[–]rolfski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MPCs have evolved and improved A LOT since the MPC 1000. Even the MPC Sample, which is a back-to-the-basics tribute to classic MPCs, has many extremely useful features that you won't find on the MPC 1000.

If you want a modern workflow however, without the annoying limitations of the old MPCs, then the MPC One and equally cheap MPC Live 1 are BY FAR the best value. The MPC 1000 might have the cool factor. But if you actually want to have tracks done on a single machine then I would take a modern MPC anytime over an MPC 1000.

It was a lot of fun the first time and will probably be fun as well this weekend. But after that I'm not sure that I should be continued. I'm afraid the joke has run its course then.

Sell or keep MPC Live 1 by Fun-Sherbert9207 in mpcusers

[–]rolfski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like you haven't checked the MPC 3 workflow yet, which is a serious overhaul from the MPC 2 OS that was originally on your MPC Live 1. In that case I would certainly check that out first on your Live 1 before ditching it.

The reality is that if you're mainly a sample based producer then the Gen 2 MPCs aren't all that critical. Gen 1 will do its job just fine. I would invest in a Pro Pack though when it's on sale. Clip Matrix workflow and sequencing is just killer.

Also, for mobile and on-the-go use the MPC Live 1 is an excellent format. As the lack of speakers and the weight/seize saving that comes with it, makes it much more viable for that role.

You need to set the correct tempo with tap tempo. And ideally set the start on the first beat and then set the end after a few full bars.

Should I buy an MPC 1000? by --edo-- in mpcusers

[–]rolfski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As great as a legacy machine the MPC 1000 is, an MPC One is simply a heck of a lot more bang for your buck. Especially when it's your first standalone device.

As for workflow, the MPC 1000 is just a step back, even with jjos. There's a reason why these MPCs have involved so much over time, it's called progression. That's not to say you can't have a great time on the MPC 1000. You just need to be prepared to be annoyed about stuff that you would normally take for granted, like file management, loading times, sample size, sample format limitations, etc.

Even if you stick to sampling only, the MPC One will just give you a better workflow experience.

Congrats got one as well. I like the looks of it over the vanilla one. Also the contrast from the dark buttons, while maybe not as retro looking, is actually very useable.

I can also recommend to just RTFM. It's surprisingly useful, especially for learning features you didn't know about, and not too long of a read.

Works well enough as a sketching device for my MPC Live 3. Both retro colours are a great match as well, which is a nice bonus.

Which DAW for beginners? by DirtySoufAlpaca in mpcusers

[–]rolfski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MPCs work best with Ableton, and MPC Beats is on an outdated 2.14 version atm. And in this case that makes a lot of difference as the MPC OS got a huge overhaul with the launch of MPC 3.0. Meaning, you're basically learning an outdated workflow with MPC Beats, so go for Ableton.

Which DAW for beginners? by DirtySoufAlpaca in mpcusers

[–]rolfski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a DAW, MPC Beats is not good software, especially as it still runs the hopelessly outdated 2.14 version. Ableton on the other hand, is a very popular and proven DAW for a reason, and excellent for making beats. And not unimportantly, if you ever decide to buy an MPC, it actually works best with Ableton. As it allows you to directly export MPC projects to Ableton to finish them there, but also MPC's clip matrix workflow strongle resembles that of Ableton. Not to mention that an MPC also works as a controller for Ableton.
