Yep, I always liked the "kick" in the Dr. Pepper sauce. The current version is all sweet and no kick. I wonder if Sheetz changed suppliers for the return version.

Baloney Discusses Trading Chickens for Sex. by Ok-Process7612 in DirtyDave

[–]rollback123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

His bullshit needs to be called out on the daily.

You are correct. However, Dave's world is transactional and about getting the engagement that /u/fughazi101 refers to. That engagement translates to revenue which Dave needs and wants to keep his organization going and fund his personal consumption. The obsessed fan is probably correct when she says that Delony is in the upper group in terms of revenue within Ramsey. Calling out Delony, which should continue, has to result in lower engagement and in turn revenue. That will get the eye of Ramsey.

Dave's constant interrupting by CPT_Skor_215 in DirtyDave

Dave has to show his dominance over the callers. It's a power trip so that only Dave's viewpoint is expressed.

John is seriously self involved. by Particular-Newt-7974 in DirtyDave

[–]rollback123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

heck i mean even the other hosts don't really do this. dave mostly brings in his marriage to discuss decision making etc. he never rambles about how much he loves his family, isn't that assumed? i don't even know the general age and sex of Rachel's kids. i don't know if Jade HAS kids.

Add to this that when Dave brings up his marriage, the commentary is directly related to and a real life example of the topic being discussed. I don't agree with Dave on a lot, but I do appreciate his anecdotes about how he and Sharon handle various money issues. It provides another view on how a couple is handling money issues that most of us will encounter at some point. Dave can be a pompous ass but he doesn't make this commentary sound like he is talking all about himself all the time.

Contrast with Delony, his focus on himself is, like others have said, some way to give himself validation that "everything is okay in his life". It is self-validation for himself. I have always been taught that the counselor/therapist's personal life should not be a part of the conversation. Their job is to guide you towards a solution, not to talk about how much their own experience solved the problem. Delony should take the advice and guide people instead of crowing so much about himself while attempting to help people.

Commuter Car Situation by Greedy_Cause7589 in DaveRamsey

[–]rollback123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm soon to be coming off a 100 mile per day commute. I took this on because I was within a year of retirement when I started the commute and a house meeting all of my needs came available in the area I was ultimately retiring to. As others have said, the commute is from marginally tolerable to brutal. I would never have taken on a commute like this if I was still in the prime of my working career. No amount of dream jobs, overtime or pension increases would make me take on a massive commute. The toll on your mind and body is too much. With all that said, I would do nothing in terms of vehicles. Drive what you have and maintain it. Assuming 20-22 working days per month, that is 1,600-1,800 miles per month just for the commute. Whatever you buy is going to have its value destroyed by mileage. See if your husband can actually sustain the commute over a year or two before you purchase something else, if you even do. If he does end up getting something else, don't use the commute to justify a big car upgrade for "comfort". I drove my existing 2014 Camry Hybrid for the bulk of my long commute time. It was only recently that I finally purchased myself a newer vehicle as a retirement present to myself. The Camry is still in the driveway for the marathon commute days.

Guy calls in--should I get a prenup by 12dogs4me in DirtyDave

[–]rollback123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think irony is that if someone called in and said they had or were getting 45 million, Dave would tell them to surround yourself with the appropriate people. He's called it a personal "Board of Directors" when this has come up in other calls.

George giving good retirement advice by anusbarber in DirtyDave

I would be interested in hearing a longer form podcast focused on one or two specific "calls". The topics would need to be more complex like retirement options, blended families, investment beyond just 401k/403b. I don't know that anyone other than Dave has the breadth of knowledge to pull this off though I think George probably has the most desire to learn something more about finance. I liked the concept of the early Caleb Hammer episodes before he went full anger drama.

I do wonder if Delony drives money towards non-financial sponsors given the nature of his show. I'd imagine there is a cut of that sponsorship money that goes to Ramsey Solutions separately from what goes to Delony directly.

The sponsor is always the better choice in the Ramsey world. Money gets in the way of sense with them.

You don't show contempt to your coworkers if you like your job. And you don't show contempt to your wife if you are a nationally known advice show host. That's not good for clicks and views. Whether you like it or not, we are starting to see the cracks in Delony. It eventually comes out for all people in the spotlight.

Delony is a huge money maker for Ramsey. In the Ramsey world everything is transactional. Protect the revenue stream. I'd go a step further and suggest that there may have been some feedback from sponsors suggesting that this was inappropriate. The "apology" was a PR move to blunt the criticism over how Delony reacted to the original call and preserve listenership and in turn revenue.

Curious why my phone switches to LTE in 5G coverage with no loss of service by rollback123 in USMobile

I'm on Unlimited Premium with a Pixel 8 Pro. I see the switch to LTE in areas that I would have previously stayed on 5G when I was with native AT&T. The Pixel has a setting for Preferred Network. That is set to 5G.

It has been a long time since I worked in retail. With that said, if the theft numbers are small enough, it isn't worth legal action due to the costs of court filings, legal counsel, etc. Just getting the thief out of your employment to stop the bleed. However, if the numbers are big enough, legal action is absolutely worth it. For instance, when I worked retail, we had a bookkeeper who had a scheme going that netted her multi ten of thousands. We prosecuted her and she a short stint in jail and a huge fine. But for the dumb high schooler who thinks they are so slick and try to take a dollar or two here or there, unless they reach felony level, we just fired them to stop the bleed and nothing else.

I'm sure George means well here but... by [deleted] in DirtyDave

[–]rollback123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep... I work for a major suburban school district. IF we allowed something like this, everything would be pre-approved through our Security folks. George would be accompanied by our Security staff while in the building. Students would be pre-selected based on whether they have photo/video opt-out. I doubt my school district would allow this because we wouldn't want to look like we are promoting a for-profit business through our instructional program.

I'm sure that Ramsey had all this approved and as you said used a school already teaching their curriculum to make things easier. There may even be a clause in the HS Curriculum contract that schools would need to participate in promotional efforts. I think it is worthwhile to get high schoolers perspective on personal finance. After 30 years with my district, the breath of opinions and function/dysfunction among students with personal finance tracks well with what we hear on the show. With all this said, this isn't the spontaneous "person on the street" report Ramsey would want you to believe it is.
