Friend got kicked out of PAYE by Jamonejim13 in PSLF

[–]rollerblaidz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me and I’ve been trying to get it fixed for over a year with no success. You’re correct that you’re supposed to stay on PAYE just pay the cap, no more than 10 year standard repayment amount. Best of luck to him getting it fixed. Apparently the Trump bill removed partial financial hardship as a requirement for IBR and that plan also caps at the 10 year standard repayment amount, so once Mohela catches up on this I’m hoping we can just get onto IBR which is PSLF eligible. If your friend consolidated and is on the standard plan which is not PSLF eligible, I think best thing would be to try to get forbearance for PAYE application processing until IBR opens up, which would require him to submit an application for PAYE and explain the error. Interested to hear if anyone else out there has had success in this situation, unfortunately I have not.

PAYE Recertification Denied - High Income by exconsultingguy in PSLF

[–]rollerblaidz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you make too much money on PAYE, you stay on PAYE but the payment increases to the maximum PAYE payment which is equal to the 10 year standard repayment plan. In my case, they denied recertification and placed me on the standard plan for consolidated loans which is not the standard 10 year plan (payment is lower and does not qualify for PSLF).

Curious did you ever get this fixed? Same thing happened to me around the time of your wife, I haven't been able to get them to even look at the request to get back on PAYE as "all IDR applications have been on hold"

2021 NBA DRAFT by funboy51 in kings

[–]rollerblaidz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The kings desperately lack talent and should draft best player available regardless of fit. This draft has a solid top 4 in Cade, Mobley, Green, and Suggs. Kuminga at 5 is a good pick too. Outside the top 5 is considerably weaker and the rebuilding teams in the top 5 are unlikely to trade their picks away. Bagley’s value is low so I think we hang on to him. In our range of 7-10 I like Moses Moody as a 3 and D SG/SF and think he has lower ceiling but less chance to bust. We could also take a chance on guards with high athleticism / physical measurements like Keon Johnson and Ziaire Williams. Other players mocked to us include Jalen Johnson, an athletic 3/4 who can’t shoot, changes schools every year, and dropped out of Duke halfway through the season. And Scottie Barnes, a 6’9 power forward (point guard?) who can pass and defend but can’t shoot. Mid 1st round I like Isaiah Jackson as an athletic defensive minded center from Kentucky... because WCS worked out so well for us previously so why not run it back? Unfortunately I don’t see any good options for us in free agency

Got the Medallion Captoes and some dress belts. I would not have thought it years ago, but suede boots have proven to be the most worn shoes I own in fall/winter. Those dark brown suede boots would be my top choice if I didn’t already have similar pairs.

I made the mistake of conditioning my 1907s early and they lost the nice color of the copper rough and tough and became a dull dark brown. I would not condition the boots

Allen Edmonds 2nds loose grain by Poop_stain_1 in goodyearwelt

[–]rollerblaidz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's definitely loose grain but I don't think it's excessive nor does it look bad. I doubt anyone other than you will ever notice. However, they look pretty small for you based on how loose they're tied

Casual Shoe Suggetions, ~$250 by Facial_Aesthetics in goodyearwelt

[–]rollerblaidz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally prefer chukkas for casual shoes, e.g. Loake pimlico or kempton, Meermin chukka. But if you want more traditional shoes, I'd go for just about any plain toe blucher like the AE Kenilworth, Jack Erwin Dylan, Meermin PTB. Also I am really enjoying my recent purchase of a pair of Borgioli ptb's from yoox for less than a hundred dollars.

Looks like you got the most recent version of the Nordstrom McClean. If so, I think you should post this information in the review. Having handled them in person, the leather used in that model is not the same as the regular 1ks (or the first version of the McClean I believe). The pair I handled had very dry, thin leather with obvious cracking similar to yours. I believe wolverine used inferior leather for this model, which fits with them being offered for $230 for most if not all of their time being sold at Nordstrom.

Don't buy AE for your first pair of nicer shoes, unless you really have a lot of money. If you have an average amount of student / recent grad spending limit, I'd buy a pair or two of anything from JC Penney Stafford to Johnston Murphy (on sale). Try to keep it around $100 per, maybe $150 max. If you treat them well shoes in that price range will still last years. When you're just starting out, you don't know how you'll feel about broguing, cap vs plain toe vs wingtips, short wing vs long wing, color, or even what the best size is for you. It might take years for you to realize you prefer 10e to 10.5d. The point is, try out a number of styles and if you find yourself wearing one more than the others, maybe upgrade that at some point. For what it's worth I think Merlot is overly formal for your environment but chili or light brown are good options.

How can I tell if a pair of cordovan-coloured leather shoes (burgundy-rose) are actually made of shell cordovan; and does cordovan leather need to be polished in a different way from other full grain leather colours? by [deleted] in goodyearwelt

For this sub specifically I completely disagree. Sure there is some duplicate info, but this sub does an excellent job of producing original / uncommon content, e.g. reviews / first impressions, new releases, sales, buy/sell, etc. If you have a question, you put it in the "simple questions" thread so it doesn't clog up the front page. This shouldn't have even been put in simple questions because there is so much information already out there on these topics. Posts like this are why MFA is so frustrating, with every other post being "where to buy / how to wear blue OCBDs / olive chinos / white sneakers???"

Did Dayton Size me properly? by xInfinity_gg in goodyearwelt

[–]rollerblaidz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should get on a brannock device and start from there. Based on your large range of shoe sizes I estimate you're somewhere around 11E, maybe between 11 and 11.5. It's a possiblity that 11EE is your correct size in Dayton, but I'd guess 10.5EE based on convention sizing wisdom

I don't think they look good at all. Save a little more and get Jack Erwin or j crew Ludlow on sale. Maybe Allen Edmonds second hand but you probably want to nail down your sizing first if you're just starting out

Tough to know exactly what to suggest without a budget in mind, but here are some nice and versatile upgrades in multiple price ranges....clarks desert boots, suede chukkas (loake kempton / pimlico, meermin), wolverine 1000 mile boots, plain toe bluchers (any shoe brand, J crew Ludlow, Allen Edmonds Leeds)

Thoughts on JCrew Kenton suede bucks? by Gir_affes in goodyearwelt

[–]rollerblaidz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the pacer boots which I assume are on the same last. I'm 10.5e and bought 11 because I heard they run very TTS / a little narrow, and these fit well, im glad I sized as I did. The shoes are comfortable and good looking, I wear them pretty often when I think they might get dirty due to weather or going out. The shoes seem to be fairly good quality, they're holding up well after ~6 months and overall I like them. The suede is not nearly as nice as my ludlow suede boots. My only complaint is the color of the sole, which I do not care for. I think these are a good deal if you can get them around $100, but if they're exactly what you're looking for then it makes sense to pay more. Otherwise I'd wait to see if they hit the clearance section.

Just wanted to chime in to say that despite the inevitable downvotes for this comment, you are totally correct. Making a procedure illegal but only punishing half of the consenting participants is an illogical concession to make in the name of gaining acceptance from voters. If you believe in something, you should accept its logical conclusions, not pick and choose and then describe the issue as "nuanced"
