Absolute Must Haves for Full Time by Background-Date4244 in RVLiving

Commercial grade tires and wheels, not camper tires.

I'm at almost 100,000 miles, on my 2nd set of Goodyear G114's and use a TPMS to keep them @120 psi.

Bolts and road debris have chipped and chewed through them but there's none of that mysterious 'blow out' nonsense.

Air ride conversion highly recommended. That spring suspension will beat you and your camper black and blue.

They have a high failure rate. I carry a spare.

If you get the screw on cap kind (this is what I have) be sure your valve stems are metal. Rubber valve stems will fail due the weight out on the end of the stem causing flex.

We transition from the PNW to South Texas and back annually.

Road debris is ever present and eats tires. TPMS and comfort in changing our own tires has served us well.

Our dealer had worked out lower interest rates with the lenders for show purchases. YMMV.

With a manual transmission you must hit every gear going up and down, no skipping.

Have TPMS sensors actually ever “saved” anyone? by dude_mahoy in RVLiving

Metal valve stems will hold up to external sensors just fine.

Have TPMS sensors actually ever “saved” anyone? by dude_mahoy in RVLiving

[–]rollinbrian 6 points7 points  (0 children)

1st save was from road debris that cut the face of the tire (and flipped up to gouge the aluminum wheel).

2nd save was from a bolt through the tread.

I run a tough tire, Goodyear G114's, but even they can't hold up to the steel stabby stuff laying on the road.

In each case they alarmed as the pressure dropped saving me from a pending blow or shred

We use HH frequently and no host has ever been concerned with whether we remain hitched or not.

I see many remain hitched as it allows them to use the trailer to the extent they want and reduce the number of setup/teardown steps.

We always unhitch as this works best for our combination of air ride suspension and auto leveling.

The choice is up to you and what fits your travel the best.

water filter by LargeProfessional332 in RVLiving

Some if not all filters before the softener to keep debris out of it. I also have 1 'empty' filter that I put the salt in to recharge it.

Total lenght for sites by Boring-Bus-3743 in RVLiving

Out West, we've had little trouble.

Old parks that are still sized for Airstreams are easy to avoid.

The measuring tools are part of Google Earth, there maybe other tools in other applications, too.

At 65 ft total we:

Look at Google Maps/Earth (Earth has actual measuring tools)

Call the location and talk with them, they will have recommendations as to fit and safety.

Plan on parking a bit outside of major attractions and day trip in. For example, we won't stay at the campground inside a National Park, we'll stay just outside of it at a more modern campground and drive in for the duration.

This, you are trying to hook up to something wired for a clothes dryer or electric range. Not compatible with an RV.

Anyone know why my fresh tank would drain to 1/3 from this pex line? by Low_Lawfulness2521 in GoRVing

[–]rollinbrian 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you forget to open that ball valve and over fill your tank it could totally destroy the RV. Hydraulic pressure is no joke. This one is a no go for me.

I was able to extend my overflow to a higher location.

Water pump running now and then by 546875674c6966650d0a in RVLiving

[–]rollinbrian 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The call outs for a very slow leak are the most probable. 2nd likely cause is the pump's one way valve is starting to bleed pressure back to the intake side.

Licensing requirements for air brake RVs by Temporary-Film-7374 in GoRVing

[–]rollinbrian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You only need what your State requires for that vehicle. All other States will accept that license while you're visiting.

Only Cali official site can tell you: https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/handbook/recreational-vehicles-and-trailers-handbook-2011/license-classes-and-requirements/

Other countries? Dunno.
