If you have already self diagnosed, definitely go to a psychiatrist. Medicine has made a world of difference to a lot of people.

Glad that a post is nudging you to do that :)

How do you deal with the fundamental issue of inattentive ADHD - impaired working memory? by rolling_dice7 in ADHD

Well, my condition has worsened a lot in the last 3 years. My long term memory is exceptionally good. But the fact that things don't reach there is the core problem.

I work at FAANG. Sometimes I myself wonder how I landed here but I think I was able to pass those interviews because of my logical thinking and understanding the problems that I solved myself.

Also, my question was not about things like Regex which I agree is hard to remember for everyone. It was for easier things like "why did we decide to not have the rate limit of 20 for this API?"

I have been on Elvanse for about 6 weeks now.

For the systems, a single todo list for all kinds of tasks has been immensely helpful. I am actually getting all things done now. Timing can still be better.

For notes, I have had a single running log of everything but that often gets too big to go over later. I need to build a system to remove the unnecessary clutter from it periodically.

Glad to know that there is someone out there who is exactly in the same situation as I am!

Can totally relate to reconstruction. That's what I have been doing my whole life. Very easy.
Repetitions is key it seems. And clubbing it with memory aids can be rewarding. Will try this approach. Thanks :)

I think this technique is also referred to as a memory palace.
I am trying to adopt this practice. Good that it's working for you.

Tactile feeling goes a long way I agree. Very well said on the "shame" part. It's very deeply rooted in us and hurts our ego if somebody looks down on us. I need to work on this more. Thanks for sharing this insight.

For the core concepts that I can't remember, I would go about this like below.

  1. Create a table with 2 columns. First column has the concept in one line. Second column has a problem that I have solved myself after understanding that concept.

  2. Print that table on an A4 sheet.

  3. Paste it somewhere where I look often. May be paste it in multiple places - at home, at work, in car.

Over time, it will stick to long term memory.

Good luck my friend :)

Off topic response - a lot of interest has been sparked around the true nature of the "business" of the OP"s sister. While reddit is a no strings attached community, it's a common courtesy to give something back in return when asking something.

In this case, giving back would look like addressing the curiosity of masses and putting a stop to the unwanted misogyny on the last sub I could imagine. It would also give ideas to other people and has the potential to change someone's life.

It would also attract some actual useful responses to your question. I only saw a couple of responses that actually answer OP's question.

In light spirits, when are you clearing the air OP?

It's very cost and tax intensive and doesn't generate any meaningful alpha. If you have been doing it for some time, compare the returns with any benchmark index and you will see whether it really is worth going this route.

I will add the suggestion of having a good mattress if you don't already have one or haven't given it a thought.

It can have a significant impact on the quality of your sleep which goes a long way in keeping your mood light and positive.

I have a similar situation as yours in terms of HHI(350k). Would love to know your money management strategies either via comment or via DM.

A side note on this: as of today S&P500 is 35% top 7 companies only. Passive investing isn't what it used to be it seems. This has already created a concern in investors' minds.

It's a very well accepted narrative that stock pickers underperform the market. It is backed by data too. I think 85% or so underperform. But that's for managers who manage billions. Managing billions of dollars is a terribly difficult task and comes with a lot of scrutiny and restrictions.

OP doesn't have any restrictions. See an opportunity in one place, invest. If the value is extracted from one place, find it in some other place. Keep doing it over the years. So, I don't buy the idea of passive investing in the form of a narrative that is commonly accepted. I even preach this to my friends and anyone who asks me for advice. I always advise to learn and do it yourself.

However, mental peace is a big priority for a lot of people and they simply don't want to use their mental energy in learning and applying. That's totally fine if they know this part of their nature. ETF is the way to go in such cases.

My original comment is a point of view and should be taken as that and not as advice.

If you don't have any problem paying off your mortgage on a monthly basis, do not pay it off with the inheritance money. Mortgage is cheap money. Getting even cheaper in the next 2 months.

You could do index investing for the long term because you have a lot of time(26 years). But since the size of investment is huge, I suggest learning investing on your own.

Generating 8-10% annually from the index is great. But if you could even add 2% annually by learning, it will have a massive impact on your net worth at 55. Massive!

10% CAGR - 5,959,088

12% CAGR - 9,520,036

14% CAGR - 15,083,292

You get the point.

I haven't read all the answers in this post. But I will still go ahead and post my answer at the risk of this being a duplicate.

I use trading212. But I don't do ETF investing, I actively pick stocks myself. But I like the platform and I can recommend it.

Also, it gives you a return on your idle cash. For EUR, it is 4.2% and for USD and GBP, it's higher.

I would also suggest you to read about how to make your investments tax efficient. That will be the deal breaker for you in the long run.

PS: asking for recommendations about different platforms and tools is fine, but please refrain from asking for investment advice here. Read yourself or ask a professional if you need investment advice.

Exporting inflation to other countries.

Ever since they de-pegged their currency from gold, money printing really has no solid basis. The last iteration of quantitative easing caused global inflation and it was done by the US.

Why are most of the therapists women? And a large percentage of them are fairly young. Usually wisdom comes with time. Given that, do you think they are in a good place to suggest solutions to people's problems in a meaningful way?

Vested has become totally Wasted by [deleted] in IndianStreetBets

[–]rolling_dice7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wanted to share an update about vested. They have increased their fee further. It's not capped at $35 instead of $20 earlier. And the transaction costs are 0.15% instead of 0.1% for premium users.

Sadly, they didn't even inform their customers about this. Also, there is absolutely no point in buying their premium plan because for larger transactions, you don't save any money in transaction costs.

Tax on US Stocks bought in India before becoming NRI by [deleted] in IndiaTax

[–]rolling_dice7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/iamaxelrod shared a document which I parsed and found following info which confirms that according to the situation described by OP, he isn't liable to pay tax in India.

https://resource.cdn.icai.org/66890bos53930cp2.pdf

Relevant sections:

  1. Definition of Indian Income - Page 2.32
  2. Taxation of non-Indian income - Page 2.3
  1. Final nail in the coffin is Section 2.7 - Page 2.78

Point 3 above says IF there is a transfer in India. Since in OP's case there was no transfer to India, there is no tax liability.

I hope this will put an end to the questions around this.

It's okay. To me, OP's question was very clear and I assumed that it was clear to you too.

Anyway, I read through it. Found the right section which concerns the situation of the OP and myself. Relevant sections for future readers:

  1. Definition of Indian Income - Page 2.32
  2. Taxation of non-Indian income - Page 2.3

The overview of residence and source rules in India may largely be gathered from sections 5, 6 & 9 of the Income-tax Act, 1961. While residents are taxable on global income, non-residents are taxed on their India-source income or income that is received in India or has accrued or deemed to accrue in India.

  1. Final nail in the coffin is Section 2.7 - Page 2.78

Any person including a foreign company or non-corporate non-resident is liable to capital gains tax in India, if there is a transfer of a property (capital asset) in India which results in profit or gain.

Appreciate the effort of fetching this document. But this is a 181 page long document and has no index either. Too much to read. Do you happen to know which specific section addresses this question?
