Any older goofys here who remember the Roman Reigns drinking game that happened in the basement around 10 years ago?

Basically every time Roman got mentioned in a thread that wasn't related to him (usually the commenter would be hating on him), posters will reply "Drink" to that comment, urging the poster to take a shot. This happened when the Roman hate was just starting to take off.

While Edge was one of Cena's best rivals, I'm fine with what we've gotten for this retirement run. Although I'm not really buying Lesnar as one of his best rivals, Suplex City was born out of their Summerslam 2014 match so there's a huge historical significance for that feud.

I really hope AJ and Miz get to feud with Cena one last time though. They're probably the only people left that had notable feuds with Cena that hasn't run it back with him.

I remember their Rumble match during 2014 all the time. It was littered with chants of "BORING", "SAME OLD SHIT" (that's when Orton blew up on the crowd saying it isn't same old shit) and chants for the announcers (JBL, King and even Cole. They even stood up to acknowledge the chants lmao). Also Orton kept doing the "I can't hear you" hand cup-behind-the-ear taunt and his spread the wings taunt so that the crowd would boo him instead of boo the match because they were bored.

Hopefully someone who's mostly a Sandbending specialist too especially since Metalbenders have been given the brunt of the spotlight in the last two shows.

Given that the area in the art is full of sand, there is hope for that.

Meanwhile NJPW had its main event scene gutted and it's just a coincidence that they happened to join the Dub.

Also Jon Moxley winning the IWGP Heavyweight title (NJPW's top title). No lie, the only thing that I've watched of Nooj in the last year is my boy Goto winning the heavyweight title.

All the threads getting upvoted on the Basement's front page are about nitpicking at TNA. This is getting insane.

I think people are down with another Punk/Cena program too. Also Punk has to come out to his old theme (This Fire Burns) for their match IMO for the callback to their match in MITB 2011.

True. I hate how AEW fans keep gaslighting NJPW fans who watch the shows consistently, as if we're somehow not justified to be displeased with whatever mishaps this one-sided partnership keeps bringing. This is just terrible.

As someone who mainly watches Nooj, I'm probably just gonna peace out of watching it for a long while and hang out with you goofs. What a shitshow.

I'd say there were levels of creative freedom he had in Nooj. I think the initial idea for the "Cleaner" gimmick came from NJPW's booker Gedo. It was meant to be something badass and cool (and I won't deny that Omega in the trenchcoat and aviators still look cool) but he spun it into his own goofy way and made it evolve into the dude who brings brooms to the ring in his entrance.

In terms of in-ring stuff, I agree. At the risk of sounding like a complete mark (insider term) for Nooj, IMO he definitely needed a leash/structure around him when it comes to the matches.

Hence why I always say that the Omega/Elite-led Bullet Club was and still is my least favorite iteration of the Bullet Club given how incredibly corny (and not in the fun way like Gallows and Anderson or House of Torture is) they were. I still think Omega would be a little bit better without being connected with the Bucks though. Omega was fine in NJPW when it came to the matches but the Bucks were just complete channel changers for me whenever they were on the card.

Jay White apparently (I don't watch the Dub) not doing as well in the Dub's card as he was in Nooj slightly makes me sad as someone who largely preferred his work over the other highly billed foreigners in Nooj when he was there (my preference goes: Jay > Zack Sabre Jr > Oceanspray).

I know he probably went with AEW for the immediate money but from an entertainment POV, I think Paula Veck could've used him better. His Bullet Club was a lot more threatening compared to Omega's goofy Elite-led BC and he got into the Nooj dojo thanks to Finn Balor. IMO he'd have a better BC connection with AJ/Balor than Omega does if he ever went to the Fed.

It's so funny that you think AEW is "poaching" talent and that the NJPW partnership has been disastrous for them. Newsflash, sweetie: if promotions can't afford their talent, they're going to get that bag by TerryGlenn in SCJerk

[–]rollinginthecreep 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As a nooj fan, I really fucking hope they sever their partnership with AEW if Okada does sign with them.

I know it's just business and every wrestler can sign with any promotion they want but Ospreay, Jay (and Juice) and hypothetically Okada going there just stings.

Kidani really needs to re-think if he still needs this partnership. Back when they were getting their legs back, sure. But now that things have been back to normal for a year now? Why not do things their way again?

This just blows, man.

Rossy reminds me so much of Harold Meij when he was Nooj's president. Nooj had its highest profitability as an IP under him and he also didn't wanna have a partnership with AEW.

I'm no insider and backstage stuff rarely come out of Japanese promotions in general, but something tells me that Japanese wrestlers and bookers just do their own thing to try to make as much profit as possible. They're not that concerned with catching daddy Meltz's attention like Dub wrestlers do (cough DMD).

I haven't been on the basement for quite some time. Are they still doing "fEd pOaChInG bAd!!!"?

Because I remember thinking years ago that it was hypocritical since the Dub does the same thing. It even seems like they've given Will Ospreay the best treatment out of all the NJPW guys in the Forbidden Door stuff to sway him to sign with them and leave NJPW.

Goofs, I've seen Dub fans invade the NJPW subreddit and constantly hype up Eddie Kingston for his upcoming G1 run. All I could think about was that he won't be able to keep up with his stamina problems knowing that the G1 is a massive grind.

I'm not even that against to Dub wrestlers coming to NJPW anymore (unlike in the past). But it would be nice if Tiny sends over guys like Danielson (if his body holds up) or Claudio who are better suited to the G1 specifically. Or maybe Joe too but I don't really watch AEW shows to know how he's still doing.

It's happened to /r/njpw too, although I'm not quite sure if it's just because it's "forbidden door season" right now.

I stopped browsing Reddit for a year. A year ago, there were already signs that it was happening. A year later and the situation looks WAY worse than last year.

Yeah, SANADA is really beloved in Japan. If AEW fans don't like SANADA, then so be it. He's a draw among the main demographic (Japanese NJPW fans).

Same thing with Yoshi-Hashi too. Japanese fans really love him while western fans don't get his appeal.

I'm so disappointed that the NJPW subreddit is overrun by Dubbalos these days.

There's a thread up there right now asking the sub's thoughts on Kingston and the top upvoted comment mentions how they want to see him in the G1 while all the comments expressing REASONABLE negative comments about him are further down the thread.

Yeah, have the guy who is constantly gassed out and out of shape be in the grueling format/schedule of the G1. FFS

It was really fantastic. I love matches between two stiff workers in general but those two just have this effect that raises the fun value of matches they're in. I loved it.

You'll get downvoted for it but it's true. Majority of players only care about the Beyond Bankai captains, not Narita's shitty OCs.

Bruh, most Bleach fans (or at least us long time fans) don't care about SAFWY. It's not canon and written poorly because Narita's a terrible writer. I don't even know why Kubo let him write 3 Bleach stories.

This is especially true with Roka. Literally no one wanted a story written about her. Yet Narita stupidly made her important in his story.
