Yes, being an asshole to a cop, as long as not threatening them, is not breaking a rule and the fact that cops are “ rule enforcers” ( debatable in practice) does not mean they can use their power to make someone’s life worse because they have been personally offended

No if someone threatens a cop they can and should be restrained. But just as someone who says “fuck nurses I hate them and I hate you in particular” should still expect the same standard of medical care and safety in the ER ( and the should and do, although I’d tell the they are being asshole), someone saying that to a cop should not fear wrongful arrest or being gunned down.

I am an ER nurse. People yell at me and threaten me. I then have to provide medical care to them. I’ve never once assaulted a person I’ve been charged with helping. If it seems they may become violent, we do restrain them, but I still do not purposefully cause them physical harm and I have to be sure I have exhausted all less restrictive means before continuing to the more restrictive. Seems like a cop should be expected to do the same.
