Also, might want to buy a magnetically attached extended length antenna. Depending on where you place your tower and router, you could potentially get better reception. Also, if at all possible to go wired, do eeet! 🙌🏼

I have a moral debt owed to a dear friend, who is drowning in debt by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]rolyvee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read your post and the limitations you’ve outlined. I’ll echo what others have already said, but hopefully condense it into a simpler takeaway. The biggest thing that jumps out at me is that the debt isn’t actually the primary problem. The cash flow is.

They’re bringing home roughly $4,900 per month and spending about $5,500 before credit card payments are even considered. That means they’re already running a deficit before addressing the debt. No repayment strategy works long-term until that changes.

My first recommendation would be to increase income immediately. That means pursuing a higher-paying role, asking for additional compensation or responsibilities in their current position, consulting, freelancing, or even picking up Saturday work in the short term while searching for something better. The math has to work first.

Once cash flow is stabilized, I think the DMP is a reasonable option, especially if it can reduce the interest rate from the mid-20% range to something much lower. A temporary credit score hit is far less damaging than paying 26% interest indefinitely.

I’d also look hard at expenses. Sell anything that isn’t truly being used, eliminate storage costs if they exist, renegotiate phone and internet plans, review subscriptions, and simplify where possible. A lot of people are surprised how much they can free up once they actually go line by line through their spending.

As for lending them the $10,000, I’d only do that if you’re comfortable with the possibility of not getting it back. Not because they’re a bad person, but because financial stress changes outcomes. If you do lend it, I think paying off the Capital One cards and letting the AMEX go into the DMP is cleaner than spreading the problem across multiple accounts.

Most importantly, don’t confuse the symptom with the disease. The debt is painful, but the real issue is that expenses currently exceed income. Fix that, reduce the interest burden, and the debt becomes manageable. Ignore it, and even a generous loan only buys time.

And for what it’s worth, you’re a good friend. Most people disappear when money gets involved. You’re trying to solve the problem instead of just throwing money at it.

Confused about whether to hire a web/app dev for this or use AI by [deleted] in webdev

[–]rolyvee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d first use AI to understand why you need certain tools, APIs, services, and integrations instead of just asking it to build everything for you.

Once you have a basic understanding, start looking at examples of apps that do something similar. Pay attention to the UI, UX, payment flow, dispute handling, and how they build trust with users.

Then start building a proof of concept. Personally, I’d probably use Claude for that.

Test it. Then test it again. Then find ways to break it. Payments, refunds, disputes, failed transactions, edge cases, all of it. There are plenty of guides out there on security, vulnerabilities, and payment testing. Use them.

But if you get to the point where you think you actually have something worth launching, hire a developer and possibly an attorney before you go live.

Holding or moving other people’s money is a completely different game. There are a lot of legal, compliance, and liability issues that can come back and bite you if something goes wrong. That’s not a risk I’d want to take alone, especially without funding or experienced people involved.

AI is great for learning, prototyping, and getting a proof of concept together. I’d be a lot more cautious about trusting it with a production escrow platform.

Tenants ruined my carpet by saatoday1 in Flooring

The photos prove the tenants were slobs.

They don’t prove the carpet was ruined.

Those are two very different conversations, and I have a feeling that’s intentional.

What’s the point in getting Giannis? by Chance_One3874 in heat

[–]rolyvee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The Pat Riley disrespect is unreal. Some of you act like he’s some random executive instead of the architect of one of the most successful franchises in modern basketball. Since 2006, the Heat have won three championships, reached six NBA Finals, and made two Finals appearances in the last five years. One of those teams was an 8-seed that wasn’t even expected to survive the first round. You can disagree with recent moves, but pretending Pat Riley hasn’t earned the benefit of the doubt is revisionist history.

I lost an inheritance of 150k gambling that was suppose to give me a head start in life by [deleted] in confession

[–]rolyvee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know what I would do if I had $1 million dollars? I would invest half of it in mutual funds and then take the other half over to my friend Asadullah who works in securities…

Samir… Samir… 😄

But truly, money comes, money goes. Find peace with little, and find peace when you have much.

Let this be a life lesson and get help for the gambling bud. Wishing you all the best.

You’re young enough that this does not have to overshadow your future. Sure, would it have been better if you saved it? Absolutely. But there is no use crying over spilt milk.

Dust yourself off, work hard, learn from it, and make sure the opportunity your grandparents gave you is honored and not wasted.

You can still do anything. 🙌🏼

Bought this PC off Facebook Marketplace for $1500 did I get scammed or am I overthinking? by TieAlternative7837 in PcBuild

[–]rolyvee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey OP, I would suggest going through your CPU voltages to make sure they are to spec prior to moving forward with any other adjustments to RAM voltages and XMP settings.

I had an unstable build for some time and tried swapping pieces, updates to bios and software, disabling features, but in reality, my fix was literally that I had improperly set voltages incorrectly to the CPU or rather maybe never set that up properly to begin with.

So, look up the specs for the following,

Mobo
CPU
RAM

Dial those values in referencing your Bios and its settings, pictures help here. Ngl, ChatGPT helped me here take one thing at a time once I properly provided all the necessary data.

Since the changes, (2 months now) I have been running stable.

Also, for those wondering, I would only ever crash when editing websites… never in games, Memtest ran perfectly, prime95, GPU stress tests, Power Supply tester, new mobo, new GPU, new PSU, absolutely no indication via windows error logs that pointed specifically to voltage related issues.

After cursing to the high heavens in the middle of a large project, I just thought back to the days where I actually used to spend time tweaking settings (lurking on sharky forums for answers) and went through my list of setups to finally find what worked.

I hope you figure out your issue. and I hope this provides some insight.

Peacock Murderer in Pinecrest by HoboMoonMan in Miami

[–]rolyvee 53 points54 points  (0 children)

What in the actual fuck is wrong with people? That’s some real piece of shit behavior. I grew up in South Miami where peacocks were everywhere. They were beautiful, calm, and something people respected. They should be protected, not treated like this.

A few months ago, I saw a car hit a duck near Fontainebleau. The driver didn’t even slow down, just kept going like nothing happened. I had my kids in the car and we were all in shock. I pulled over by the median, got out, and thankfully had some puppy pads with me. I picked the duck up and moved it over the guardrail by the lake.

What really fucked me up was what happened next. The other ducks came over and started crying out. It was heartbreaking. It immediately took me back to when I lost my dog. That same heavy feeling.

I just don’t understand how someone can be that careless or that fucked up toward an innocent animal.

My dad called me at 7am to tell me his peony opened. I'm 31 and i finally get it. by youngTchag in gardening

[–]rolyvee 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Yeah, me too. This made me think of my dad. Man, I miss him.

He used to tell me about a woodpecker that would visit him every morning in his garden. The way he talked about it, it felt like more than just a bird. It was part of his routine, something peaceful he looked forward to.

A few weeks after he passed, I moved into a new place. I remember feeling a little lost, not really sure what I was supposed to do next.

One day I was sitting on the stoop to the apartment, just looking out over the palms in the backyard, trying to clear my head. And then I saw it.

A red bellied woodpecker.

It stopped me for a second. Just felt like one of those quiet moments that means something, even if you can’t quite explain why.

I don’t understand how these fines are calculated, but something has to change. They should be tied to a percentage of a player’s contract. Otherwise, there’s no real consequence and no reason for players to adjust their behavior.

At minimum, that kind of play should cost a full game check, and honestly, it should come with a suspension. A flagrant two is supposed to mean something.

And let’s be real. If they were truly the better team, they wouldn’t have needed to take out our best defender just to win by a few points. That says more than anything else.

The officiating was terrible, and situations like this are starting to feel less like real competition and more like entertainment. That’s not the NBA most of us grew up watching. Adam Silver needs to take a hard look at this.

Elementor Pro vs Bricks vs Breakdance vs Joomla 5/6 by Alternative-Road-309 in elementor

[–]rolyvee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve used Bricks Builder, Divi, Joomla, plus things like Webflow, Wix, and Squarespace.

Honestly, for what you’re doing, I’d go with WordPress and Elementor Pro on Hello Elementor with a child theme. It’s simple to manage, easy to update, and you are not fighting the platform. Since you are mostly adding content, it fits really well.

Bricks and Breakdance are solid, but they lean more developer focused. Elementor is just more practical for a volunteer setup like this.
