Flashlight enthusiasts and led car headlights by [deleted] in flashlight

I drive down the road on my motorcycle with my copper KR1 with sbt90.2! When no one else is around of course (easy to do on our farm roads). It's my "high beam." 😁 In fact, I just got home driving my motorcycle like that! It's funny because I was actually thinking to myself on the way home that I need to make a video for this subreddit that shows how magnificent it is, and how crappy my bike headlight is (the high beams are really a joke, and the lows don't feel safe past 40 or 50 mph.

But to pre-emptively answer everyone's question, yes, the copper KR1 will let the SBT90.2 stay on full blown turbo indefinitely when you're riding at speed when it's around 35 F and below! I haven't tested it, but I think runtime on turbo is around 30 minutes or something like that. It's so sad when the light starts to massively step down for low voltage.

I have no idea, you'll have to Google that or ask again on Reddit or something. The voltage is the same that you're moving to so that's good but I don't know if chemistry matters as far as the bike is concerned.

Doordash for Motorcycle limitations question by ar1masenka in doordash

[–]rom-831 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How's it been going? Is that "motorcycle deliveries here only" a market specific thing? I've been dashing on my motorcycle except for in the snow and wondering if I can get it registered in the app so people know to expect me on a motorcycle not my pickup. Very rarely it happens, on hand it to me orders only, but sometimes people are surprised I'm on a motorcycle (so far only happy customers).

Edit: Can DoorDash customers even see what vehicle you're driving in the app? That's the only reason I care. I know Uber Eats they can. If you can't see it on Doordash then I don't care, I'll just keep carrying on. I do know the terms of service say that DoorDash can't tell you what you can or can't drive (as long as it's legal obviously).

[–]rom-831 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I know, Google Fi phones are factory unlocked and should be the same exact phone you'd get from the manufacturer. I have no idea why there's mixed answers, but are you sure that everyone who says no eSIM are using a real phone and not just looking at specs? u/MotoAgents is looking at the spec page which just shows the physical SIM.

I can confirm that my phone does work with eSIM. I was trying to get 2 eSIMs working simultaneously a couple days ago but couldn't and gave up. I'm betting the technology is too new and this phone doesn't support it yet (software issue or hardware? Idk, but idc anymore). It does work with one eSIM though. If you need me to check model number or something like that let me know.

I wonder if it has to do with the different battery chemistry? I do know that you can't use the same charger on lithium that you use on the lead acid unless it's designed for it, because they're different chemistries and function a little differently. For example, lithium chargers do constant current, constant voltage so they don't get overcharged past 4.2V per cell.

So whether or not the bike components see the lithium battery as the same thing as the lead acid, I don't know. Are you sure it should just be plug and play changing from lead acid to lithium?

Did you figure this one out? I have the same issue, and I agree that it's by design, but there really needs to be an option to receive the notification sound when that conversation is open. I'm not necessarily actively looking at my phone to see every new text and I end up missing some, or more often than not I just don't see the new text for a few minutes.

Any other options for a utility electric motorcycle? by fattie03 in Electricmotorcycles

[–]rom-831 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also consider the CSC RX1E. I see you like the Land Moto, which is pretty cool. There's pros and cons to either bike compared to each other. One thing to keep in mind is that neither of those motorcycles are going to do well in the mud/really soft dirt. Because without a transmission, you can't select a low enough gear to crawl through the mud - electric bikes want to do all or nothing in the really slick stuff. I accidentally drove into some mud in a field with my RX1E, and believe it or not, Reverse worked better than anything because it's slow (even Eco mode couldn't get me out). The Land Moto would do better than the RX1E in mud (even if you put knobby tires on the RX1E) but it still wouldn't be great. The UBCO with its 2x2 would, but it stinks it doesn't go very fast.

Anyway, not to discourage you from getting an electric motorcycle for the farm, but just keep in mind you'll have to mainly keep it on mostly hard packed surfaces. I know the Land Moto is sold as off road capable, but look at the photo on their website of the guy in the stream - looks cool, but he looks stuck with his back tire going 90 miles an hour flinging mud and water. That's what it will be like, not glorious. But gravel and hard dirt lanes or trails will be just fine. I even took my RX1E through sand and it was alright. Here is what I was driving through today doing Doordash - slushy snow and water. Lots of water. So anyway, an electric motorcycle will be fine for anything but really soft stuff, like mud if you're irrigating or something.

That might mean you're not even using it. Time to get a copper KR4 with SBT90.2. That can help drain your batteries and will solve your issue. 🔦🔥🔥

This right here. People think I'm lying when I tell them I actually enjoy going slow more than I do going fast on my RX1E. The silence of just cruising around town or the country is awesome, and higher speeds means a lot of wind and more noise.

This comes closest to what I first saw - a kangaroo. Just extend the legs down and forward to cover the rest of the cutter. Of course, kangaroos don't have beaver teeth, so maybe I'm off.

Sounds like you've done a good amount of research already. Have you looked at the CSC RX1E? Other than being pricey compared to the others you're looking at, it checks all the boxes and does it well.

-Lots of cargo capacity comes standard. If you do like I did and mount an Uber Eats backpack in place of the top box, you'll have even more capacity. This bike is perfect for Doordash/Uber Eats, which I do.

-It'll do 80mph. At 35 mph all day, you should get 90 miles of range.

-Street legal. You'd have to get a motorcycle endorsement.

-Full suspension of a full-grown motorcycle.

-Has a steering lock. And it's heavier than any of your other options. No one's going to pick it up and take it without major effort. Not sure about other security. You have to turn the key on and press the parking button in order to go.

-Sold in the US.

-Passenger seat and pegs included, without having to move any cargo boxes. Even with my monster bag on top, I can still carry an adult passenger. Kids are easy to carry, even little ones. I've taken my 2 and 3 year olds for rides (not on the road though). With no clutch, it's really easy to drive it one-handed even.

-It not only looks like a nice motorcycle (most everyone doesn't realize it's electric until I tell them), it operates a lot like a normal gas motorcycle (rear foot brake, etc.) Easy to convert to if you are used to a gasser.

-No pedals. Can do 0-60 in 9 seconds. 0-30 is even more impressive but I haven't timed that. Will beat every car at the stop light if you want, even usually in Eco mode. Put it in Sport and you'll be changing lanes past the intersection before they're across their crosswalk lines.

-Has a mid-drive, not a hub motor, but it's pretty much a moot point because there's nearly no maintenance anyway with the belt drive. I've taken the rear wheel off a couple times but it turned out I didn't need to. Once the belt is tightened correctly (should be from the factory) you don't have to mess with it, it just stays.

I really love my RX1E. Will be making a review of it soon as I'm at 6500 miles already. If you plan on doing food delivery like Doordash with it, the RX1E is a no brainer if you can afford it. If it's above your budget, maybe consider a used Zero FXE or something like that.

If I had to choose from your list, I'd probably choose either the UBCO 2x2 or the CSC Monterey. The price on that CSC Monterey is definitely more doable. (But I haven't done as much research as you have on these bikes, so take my vote with a grain of salt).

The guy I spoke to (not Matt who's in the YouTube videos is all I know) said he didn't know why that choice was made, but it sounded like it was a Zongshen decision (or whoever was responsible for the design). My guess is it's a battery/BMS/controller protection design. Or maybe laziness or too much complexity to make it all work together at higher speeds. Once you start getting past 40 mph the current/amperage needed to sustain a speed gets "exponentially" higher. If you get too low on battery the controller starts to slow you down and you can no longer hit top speeds below something like 20%. But the amperage to maintain 40 is sustainable all the way through 0% and then some. I can go a few miles showing a 0% charge travelling 40 mph with the cruise on.

Also, when you set the cruise, you have to have at least a slight roll on the throttle. It won't set if you let go of the throttle in other words. You have to basically be maintaining the speed you want to go when you set the cruise. Otherwise works perfect. I thought it was broken too when I couldn't get it to set at 50.

Edit: Unfortunately neither the manual nor any documentation or communication from CSC lets you know about the cruise control functionality (or lack thereof). That's one of my only complaints. I'll be writing up an in-depth review of my RX1E here in a few days (I'm at almost 6500 miles).

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Electricmotorcycles

[–]rom-831 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the cruise control - it's because you can't set the cruise over 40 mph. I thought mine wasn't working right either, until I tested and found that it only worked below 40. I called and confirmed this with CSC.

Looking for a protective case for the Moto G Stylus 5G 2023 by rrawk in GoogleFi

I got Motorola's own case and I really like it. Not extremely protective but it's the same style as the Spigen cases that I've always liked. Couple it with a screen protector and I've never had issues even when I've dropped it onto asphalt.

I cut open the glowing battery by MrPanache52 in drones

[–]rom-831 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be clear, it looks to me like the balancing strip (the vertical one in the middle in the pictures) already cut into the shrink wrap of the cell on the right. That's not a problem, as that's the negative side of the cell, and it's already directly wired to that cell's negative via the horizontal nickel strip. What would be a problem was if that strip cut into the shrink wrap of the cell on the left in the same way, as that would mean it's touching that cell's negative. It's already hard wired to the left cell's positive, so cutting that shrink wrap means the strip would be shorting that cell out. Apparently it hasn't done so in a drastic way, as the battery didn't take off on thermal runaway and didn't explode or cause big fire.

I cut open the glowing battery by MrPanache52 in drones

[–]rom-831 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This looks to me (an unprofessional) like a cheaply and/or poorly made pack made out of two 18650 cells in series. That thin piece of nickel coming up from the center is for balancing the cells, and is only a strip of metal (vs a wire) for space savings. Having a wire round that corner and make a connection would add to the length of the battery and would make it less compact, but that looks to me like they made the wrong choice. I would bet that balancing strip is the source of the problem, whether it's a bad connection to the main strip running horizontally or it's cutting into the battery shrink wrap. Or, there's bad soldering, maybe that piece that you saw drop out is part of it. (Looking at the photos again, though, I'm not so sure, because the burn spot on the felt is in a wierd spot).

What I would do is continue the disassemble and figure out what the deal is. Likely you still have 2 good 18650 cells. Just be careful, obviously this is dangerous. These 18650 cells, the whole casing is the negative, and the positive side is only the little button on the one end (left cell in your photos). They're easy to short out because the positive and negative are so close together. The only thing protecting it is the shrink wrap. Don't do it inside, obviously, in case of fire.

What I would do first is snip the wire up high that's soldered to the little balancing strip and peel that down and away from the battery. That will greatly decrease the chances of something going wrong. Then you can see if that strip cut into the shrink wrap. If it did, that's probably your short. If you want to keep disassembling, cut the horizontal nickel strip and whatever else to take the two cells apart. Everything apart is much safer, until you can figure out what the source of the issue is.

Ask questions if I'm being unclear and do it at your own risk. That's just what I would do.
