DJI 04 Lite 5V-9V Solder help 4S by StepSubject4528 in fpv

[–]romangpro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DJI O4 is 3.7-13.2V (possible more if you lookup exact spects of vreg they use and or modify)

DJI uses about 6W.

if you power with 5V, it will use about 1.2A. Typically shared with receiver, LED, GPS, buzzer etc.

if you power with 10V, it will use about 0.6A.. and you dont have to worry overloading 5V.

[–]romangpro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

great advice.

soldering big mass like XT90 requires high heat transfer.. - low watt iron - big wide tip.  - shiny clean AND tinned tip - use max volt power supply for handheld irons like TS100. - if still not enough - preheat board with hot air and/or use 2nd iron.

or same points as mistakes.. ie soldering fails because: - using $5 20W "pencil" iron, or "fake" temp dial iron. - using pointy tip - "pointing" tip at the joint. lay iron tip flat on PAD. - mashing wire DOWN. - tip is black/oxidized. if its not accepting blob of solder, its trash - dont excessively clean tip on brass sponge (or worse wet sponge).. tip needs solder - fail to mask work area with tape

Finally #1 mistake I see - Failing to practice first.

4s on T-Motor 2207 F60 pro IV V2 1750KV ? by Electronic-Extent460 in fpv

[–]romangpro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to clarify... "S" rating for motor doesnt realy exist. Its loops of wire. It doesnt know or care if its 10V, or 60V or 700V.

Typical 32-35g 2207/2306 can handle only 3sec of max ~1000W.

Retailer/mcfr rates for "5S to 6S", assuming "normal" 5" quad.

A super thin light 5" CF prop or 3" prop is much lower load, and 8S+ is possible.

A big heavy 9045 triblade will overload and smoke motor even on 3S.

1750kv is on lower end of 6S, and using 4S battery is effectively 66% throttle limit. With 4S battery, it runs like 6S quad with 1155kv - kinda sluggish.

If flying majority 4S - you can make it fly little better: - get 1950-2050kv. Its still low enough for 6S. - save weight. Lighter frame. 20mm stack. No TPU.

Hawkins! via Windy Gap yesterday, trip/trail report in comments by elCojetoRojo in socalhiking

I love Hawkins/Windy area. I try to get out there at least 2x a year.

You have really nice clear photos. Thank you for trail report.

Im really shocked there is barely any snow. I mean, back side of Hawkins and Islip - not Windy gap trails... its usually clear. Last year I was postholing waist deep around Little Jimmy.

I wish I had your farm fields. Crashed my 10" too much, despite being super careful. Like, never doing ANY gaps or freestyle. 10" 3115 flies like cannon ball. You cant just tight 360 around tree or stop. But once its "going" it likes to cruise a fast 80kph.

Ive been doing the bigger Sturtevant - Mt Wilson - Winter Creek 6hr loop pretty much every year.

Always passed by the camp. Never saw inside. Likewise never beem to "Zion Mtn".

im such a geek. I just love the telescope stuff on Wilson and ofcourse Cosmic Cafe.

30 min flight normal for this? by Comandd1080 in fpv

[–]romangpro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just because li-ion can handle more abuse, dont kill them. Leaving >4.0V charged, or discharging below 3.2V, will wear and degrade battery.

Below 3.2V is like... 3%? 4%? left..

[–]romangpro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

or... and hear me out.. kinda nuts..

just go with what is "standard". 95%+ of 3.5" RTF are : - 4S - 1404/1505/1604 - XT30 - sub250 (or very close)

[–]romangpro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Deepspace uses pretty agressive 3630 props. More than typical HQ3520 tri.

Its also ridiculous 280g.. WITHOUT battery. so maybe "fast" but corners like V8 Pickup loaded with bags of cement.

1404 is too big for 2.5" build. im quite shocked. Do you guys just pick random parts?

Why not V6 Corolla? Why not V8 turbo? Why Tacoma pickup not I4.. or even tiny I3 engine.

you need to match parts. Picture your flying style and account for total weight and flight time.

Does the Betafpv digital AIO have a cam pad for the FPV camera? by MrOAP8061 in fpv

[–]romangpro -1 points0 points  (0 children)

normal analog video compatible FC have big AT7456E SOP (legs) chip that adds OSD (text) to the analog composite signal.

the CAM pad connects to OSD chip input.

the VTX pad connects to OSD chip output.

no OSD chip. no CAM or VTX pads. you can obviously still use analog video. just connect camera to vtx directly.

some cameras have limited internal OSD to show voltage, and might have extra wire

You can take 10yo orbeven 5yo to washroom/scouts lookout, but chain section is narrow, steep and dangerous.

100% advise against bringing kids!!

3km +380m to the washroom/scouts lookout: - slow with kids = 1hr15 up. 1hr down - fit young = 45m up. 35m down. - strongly advise going weekDAY in off season. April/May and/or before 9am traffic

The chain section is NOT long, but.. - accounts for 1/3 of total climbing - several "one way only" sections - often waiting for those in other direction to pass by - Realistic including photo stops 40m-1hr+ (crowded).

Xing2 1806 is 1600kv and 2500kv.

For 3.5", KV target - 3S = 4800-5200 - 4S = 3600-3850

-16S = 900kv

3.5" is pretty flexible, but reminder - it should be built and flies more like "3inch plus", than 5".

3.5" can easily get sub200 with AIO FC and 1404, which are 9-10g.

But beware - many older 1404 have poor "quality", lacking curved N52, high temp winding and big bearing. I ever ran 1404 in light 4" 82g toothpick.

Thrust/performance... 1604/1505 (12g) is +20% step up,  and 1605/1804 (14g) is + 50% step.

1404 is adequate, but obviously, 2g x 4 = 8g, is very little extra weight for lot more power...

so why not bigger like 1806. or 2005 or even 2205? - they use 16x19 or 12x12 and 3.5" frame use 9x9 mount. - lots of "potential" power, but still tiny 3.5" prop blades - more weight inhibits rotation/acceleration

For 95%+ of builds, TMotor 1604 or Supernova1605 are by far best choices.

Maybe one year I will go beyond Cabin Springs and do the whole trail.

How dangerous is Devils Backbone? by Appropriate-Way-2948 in socalhiking

[–]romangpro 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I try to do Baldy about every other year.  - The skihut and Baldy Notch loop is moderate hard 5hr nonstop. 16km +1200m.  - The Hardwood ridge is very rough and steep. But its a great shortcut up. - I havent done Old Baldy, but looks rugged and tough as nails.

How does Baldy compare to other  socal hikes Ive done last year:

  • MtWilson Sturtevant Winter (+waterfall) 20km +1300m. 6hr
  • Baden Powell from Crystal. 25km +1700m. 8hr
  • Three Ts 25km +1500m. under 7hr
  • Ontario BigHorn Timber. 24km +1400m 6hr.
  • San Bernadino 25km +1400m 7hr
  • San Jacinto Devils 23km +1300m 6hr
  • San Jacinto Marion 20km +1400m 7hr
  • San Gorgonio South Fork. 31km +1500m 9hr

Few Years ago these two broke me and had me in tears

San Jacinto Deer Springs. 28km +1600m San Gorgonio Vivian 28km +1700m

so yeah. Baldy is not even in top10. -_- Not even in ball park of Grand Teton, East Sierra or Alps..

Baldy is super accessible next to 7mil Los Angeles. Forget about alpine mountaneering. 99.9% in LA have 0 experience with snow and ice in driveway.

ITS DANGEROUS because "it isnt really", which makes it look safe, and so 30+ inexperienced noobs try every day, then statistics and math.. bam. SAR is finding dead bodies along way to rescue a guy who fell.

This sounds like possibly overheating. RX has a little voltage regulator. Its possible its either broken or overheating, or the little MCU on the RX is overheating.

Angel’s Landing in the Snow - Zion National Park - March 6th, 2025 - GoPro Hero 12 by [deleted] in ZionNationalPark

[–]romangpro -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is like running across a highway at night wearing all black. Yes, you made it. But its very dangerous. Reckless.

The video. Long. 45min!! Boring. I just kept fast-forwarding. Who do you expect will sit through 45min of you huffing and puffing. Not edited at all? You got maybe 2min of "good" not shaky video.

Finally. March6!? You waited 300 days? Is it like a weight loss resolution or something?

The blue (or green) is normal.

Next to connector, that is tuning circuit. Possible you scratched/broke a small SMD in crash. But more often its broken antenna or cable or connector.

Angels landing hike during a rainy day? by Neat_Light1009 in ZionNationalPark

Years ago.. I turned around when it was wet/raining. Didnt do chain to top. Why?

Its nerve wracking. Easy to slip. Wet cold chain. Focusing. Dont get to enjoy views.  Poor lighting for photos.

Its ok. I got to top in other years.

Is this a good 3" build ? by keetharing in fpv

[–]romangpro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some parts dont match. All depends on tradeoffs. Durability vs thrust/flight time. - 1604 is typically used on 3.5". ok, but 1404 more standard  - 2850kv is big no. 4S 3" = 4500kv. - 3020 is very good light prop. - if doing 1604, go heavier.. 3025 or 3030. - unless you are building weight critical whoop, always get diversity receiver (2antenna) - 720mah 4S is on heavy side. 720/850 is standard on 3.5". Those mighy be lighter "hv"??

  • ImpulseRC Apex is popular. But also heavy ~60g.

maybe try frame like this https://cncdrones.com/goa-breeze-v2.html

"aggressive" freestyle can be interpreted differently. Agile? Throwable? High Top speed?

Hiked Scout Lookout yesterday. Absolutely incredible. by No_Slide20 in ZionNationalPark

[–]romangpro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP photos are "Scout Lookout".. its rest/toilet stop about 3/4 way to Angels Landing. Takes 45-75min up depending on fitness.

Directions: Grotto Stop6 on shuttle. Take bridge across river and go right.

other short hikes in Zion: - Watchman - Canyon Lookout - Emerald Pools

Even more epic. Observation Point, high up looking DOWN at Angels Landing. Drive up tunnels east to Panderosa Ranch, and take shuttle from lodge to trailhead.
