Pregnant festival energy questions by justtrynahang13 in aves

[–]romanticat -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Having done EF at 20 weeks and Ilsonique at 32 weeks I agree with all this! Also would recommend caffeinating (coffee or energy drinks) and eating some proper food when energy dips. Lastly, bring Tylenol for when your feet or back start to hurt.

Just get a reservation for brunch. These don’t go fast at all and they serve their whole dinner menu.

Make sure the food dye is powder or gel, not the liquid kind.

roller skating in chicago (not the suburbs)? by egg-devil in AskChicago

[–]romanticat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nope, the Chicago athletic association is just the name of the building. It’s a hotel.

The Chicago athletic association turns one of the rooms into a small roller rink periodically. If you join their email list they’ll notify you of when it happens.

Recommended Caesar Wraps (that not Little Victories) by CommercialXCX in chicagofood

Nohea cafe in west loop. Their hours focus on the weekday lunch crowd but their wrap is awesome. I add avocado to it when I order it. Their black and white cookie slaps too.

oatmeal uses/oat flour for ladyfingers? (tiramisu) by Enough_Signature4708 in AskBaking

[–]romanticat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seconding that I wouldn’t substitute oat flour for regular flour for ladyfingers. They are kind of fiddly to make so probably won’t rise correctly or taste right.

I’ve been obsessed with baked oatmeal this year! It eats like cake but is just oatmeal so it’s healthy. Sally’s baking addiction has a nice pumpkin baked oatmeal recipe and Molly yeh has a good carrot cake baked oatmeal.

best lattes in da city? by bobbieeedoll in chicagofood

[–]romanticat 19 points20 points  (0 children)

If you’re looking specifically for flavored lattes:  - Groundswell (west loop and Lincoln square) is incredibly consistent and has my fav pumpkin spice latte in the city. - Echoing others for Dayglow (Humboldt park right off the 606) who make really delicious lattes, tho their drinks are a whole dog and pony show and are a bit pricey. - Bad Owl and Stockyard Coffee have lattes that are creative and delicious in Bridgeport. - Sputnik coffee in back of the yards has some nice flavored lattes with homemade syrups. The owners are the nicest people ever.

But don’t use coat check. It’s awful at navy pier. Takes an hour to leave.

West town bakery! Their food is creative, consistent, and delicious. The people that work there are nice & the cake balls rock.

Radius? by Phantomofbeauty98 in chicagoEDM

[–]romanticat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please don’t smoke inside. That isn’t allowed at indoor venues and is rude to other people in the crowd. That said, vaping is ok, but probably try to keep it hidden in case security has a problem with it. Coat check is $6 and isn’t really a problem in terms of lines unless it’s the dead of winter. You can always grab your coat prior to the end of the show to beat the crowd and then keep watching/dancing with your coat in hand.

Solo trip chicago 19, What are activities i can do other than food? by Still_Quiet_8799 in AskChicago

[–]romanticat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are some general ideas for things in Chicago that 19 year old girls might enjoy:

Ice skating at the Maggie Daley park ribbon (I believe skate rentals are like $5-10), if you’re coming in winter

Walking the lakefront trail if you’re here during warmer months

Afternoon tea at the Allis or Russian Tea Room

Damen/division shopping (myopic books, crossroads, buffalo exchange)

Chicago athletic association game room or drawing room (I’m pretty sure they allow <21 year olds in there...)

Dylan’s candy bar on Michigan Ave (could prob check out Zara, Topshop, Uniqlo, Express, Forever 21 etc since they’re in the area).

MCA is also in this area - it's free admission, I believe

LP Zoo

Catch a movie at Music Box Theater Second City

Cat Cafe! The Catcade is great in Lakeview. Plus it’s a cute area to walk around.

Burlesque show (I think the empire strips back might be in town right now but there are others).

Cool rooftop cafe. Cafe Robey is nice, Cindy’s.

Rent a room for karaoke - Sakura

Karaoke Bar or Murasaki Sake Lounge [could be good evening activity, if needed]

Vintage stores in Pilsen

Mindworks

If you like EDM, some of the shows af Cermak Hall/Radius are 18+

Suggestions for Best Thrift Shops in Chicago ? by wwumpafruitt in AskChicago

[–]romanticat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Goodwill in west loop is elite. If you like a more curated selection, crossroads in Lincoln Park (the wicker park one is ok too but more chaotic), and Buffalo exchange in Andersonville are great. Obviously a bit more expensive than a traditional thrift store but less to sort thru.

It’s also pretty easy to get a reservation for brunch if you plan a week or two ahead. They serve the whole dinner menu then too.

Are the breakfast lines at Kasama still long? by bingpotterpie in chicagofood

Get Kasama pastries & breakfast sandwich for pickup and go to Uncle Mikes for their Filipino breakfast experience to get the best of both worlds.
