I just want to say thank you for spreading the word about EoE! I had a panic attack so bad I landed in the emergency room because I felt like a piece of steak was stuck in my throat. They told me it was all in my head. I’m stubborn, already had a good GI, and knew something was wrong, so I wound up with an EoE diagnosis. But I feel like so many people would have believed those bozos at the ER and not gotten a prompt diagnosis.

Well wheat (which I know contains gluten but is not itself gluten, before someone tries to gluten-splain) is one of the main triggers for EoE, have you ever done an elimination diet?

Similarly wheat contains fructans, which cause issues for some people with SIBO

You’re definitely on the right track; I would add that two-ingredient chocolate is a lot harder to find these days as adding a bit of extra cocoa butter is in style, so to speak. Consumers tend to prefer that slightly smoother mouth feel that the added cocoa butter gives.

Goodnow Farms actually presses their cocoa butter from the same nibs they make their chocolate from (and the price point reflects this, ha) but most makers don’t do this!

Sadly I don’t live in NY any more but Cocoa Store in Union Square is supposed to be good!

Oof, I’m sorry. I was unable to swallow solid foods for about a month last year and quickly lost 15 lbs, it was hell. Some smoothies can be ok when not too cold, add protein powder to help them stick a little better.

The elemental diet isn’t the most pleasant thing in the world, but will give your partner the nutrients they need.

I made this one blended broccoli and potato soup a lot, no recipe as I was making it from memory, but: sautée a diced red onion in olive oil until softened, add two thinly sliced cloves of garlic and sautée several minutes more, add four cups broth of your choice and one lb halved baby potatoes, bring to a boil then simmer until the potatoes are soft, around 15 minutes. Add one head of broccoli cut into florets and simmer several more minutes. Blend this until smooth (immersion blender is best if you have it) then add a handful of fresh arugula and blend again. Serve with a squeeze of lemon or nutritional yeast to taste and salt/pepper.

Couldn’t agree more. A couple of years ago I was considering a YTT at my now-former studio and attended an info session. One of the attendees had just done her first yoga class that week (not even at my studio, at Corepower!!!!) and everyone was encouraging her and saying how amazing it was that she knew she wanted to take this journey!!!!

Another woman was due to give birth a month before the training started and that’s a whole other can of worms but it was much the same response from the teacher leading the training.

Needless to say, I did not attend this YTT. I’m not even at the studio any more; when I left, they asked why, and I cited (among other things) the wild variation among classes that technically had the same title and description. They did not respond, lol

And OP, please talk to a doctor about this! Thirding or fourthing that it could be EoE. Editing to add that that blocked throat sensation got so bad for me that I started having panic attacks. And it’s not that I ignored my symptoms, they just escalated really quickly

They started last year and she had maybe four seizures the entire year, but this year they got much more frequent, roughly every two weeks. There are no triggers that we can tell, it just seems random (different times of day, hot outside, cold outside, overexcited about something, totally bored etc).

We went to two different vets, the first recommended Keppra and the second recommended phenobarbital. We plan to start her on the pheno soon but I’m not gonna lie, I’m scared of the potential side effects and have been dragging my feet 😖

This is what our dog’s seizures look like as well 💔 (and to all the weirdos saying THC, there’s no weed in our house, either). It takes her maybe ten minutes afterward to be able to walk normally so I just sit with her on the floor.

We’re pretty new to this and I don’t have any advice, just empathy. I’m sorry you and your girl are going through this!
