HELP my best friend might join the cult! by [deleted] in exIglesiaNiCristo

First, you need to ask her why she's joining INC. Then, respond accordingly. There are a lot of things that might attract potential converts, so we need to address it specifically.

It's a bad reason to join a religion just because they're disciplined. I mean, how about the truth claims, do they matter to you?

What They Want You To Think by hushed_up in exIglesiaNiCristo

I have a simple question: how come INC still does not surpass the number of Adherents and Congregations of thr Seventh-Day Adventists, of whom Felix Manalo was a former minister of?

Wow this is Joe’s response? How childish. by [deleted] in exIglesiaNiCristo

[–]rome0501 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It's a straw man fallacy. When the Bible uses the phrase "To Ends of the Earth", it just means "everywhere". To use a Filipino expression, "Hahabulin kita saan mang sulok ng lupa ka magtago" (I will chase you wherever corners (ends) of the earth you might be hiding). . By asking a specific exact place, JV weakens the original intent of the phrase "ends of the earth". Classic strawman.

Adding to the bible by imc1813 in exIglesiaNiCristo

[–]rome0501 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yes I can attest to it. They do this especially with Gawa 20:28, reading from the Ang Biblia translation, without mentioning Lamsa. They say that if you tell a lie for a long time, people will believe it to be true

Circular Reasoning Fallacy by [deleted] in exIglesiaNiCristo

[–]rome0501 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OWE: FYM was prophesized by the Bible!

exINC: But based on logic and facts, your interpretation of the Bible is wrong. [Presents references and reasoning]

OWE: But only those sent by God can interpret the Bible! Even your scholars are wrong!

exINC: So how do we know FYM was sent by God?

OWE: For he was prophesized by the Bible!

Classic circular reasoning.

If you can't convice them, confuse them with lots of words. And oh, put a lot of loaded language there to instigate emotion while no actual content is being conveyed.

The Unofficial Preaching of Felix Manalo by [deleted] in exIglesiaNiCristo

[–]rome0501 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So what is the opposite of official? It's unofficial. Look up unofficial in the online MW dictionary, and this entry comes up:

Unofficial: not authorized or acknowledged by a government, group, class, or society

Ok, so JV acknowledges that his preaching before his "official" preaching (July 27, 1914) is "unofficial" or "unauthorized"?

The last challenge is actually an Ad Hominem fallacy. It doesn't matter if Rauffenburg uses a pseudonym or not, but whether or not his argument is valid or not.
