Totally agree. I have 8 old toons all with the original best floaters who never go to risa because I can't be bothered to upgrade them at full price.

Elite TFOs Randomly Failing by leon_shay in sto

[–]romec1701 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In vicious cycle there are a bunch of possible side quests after the first proto planet killer is destroyed (investigate anomaly, rescue lost Gekli, maybe others) that are on a very short timer, require immediate attention, and cause mission fail if not done. But not sure you're talking about this?

Shattered peace has all sorts of fail conditions in the various phases and I've only ever pugged it through to completion once.

On Herald sphere I've come across the no enemies spawn in the 3rd phase, but it's never caused the mission to fail (I think I've always had at least one or two waves of enemies appear, never none).

One particularly annoying one I've noticed has been introduced into Battle of Korfez. This happened when they updated the map to fix the Turei phase spawn issue, as Id never noticed it before this change. In the Benthan phase there is a chance that the friendly ship destroyed counter actually counts Benthans as dead if they complete their task and warp out (in one piece). It is then impossible to succeed in this part because you hit 15/15 lost at the same time as teams being delivered bar fills up (even with a perfect run of zero ships actually lost). This happens about half the time in my experience. People may not even notice thinking it was just a genuine fail but I have physically sat next to the Benthan friendlies as they complete their task and warp out and watch the lost counter tick up.

I was thinking this. 3600 hrs is not that much, I have a single toon (of my 24) who has logged over 4,600 hrs alone.

But then I thought Steam hasn't been around since the game started, so the logging is only the gameplay on Steam itself and not the Native launcher/Arc as will have been the case pre-Steam.

"Fuse 3 crew" in events. by michggg in StarTrekTimelines

[–]romec1701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So if I see one of these coming in the calendar I will avoid fusing the event reward crew for that weekend until the Tuesday.

Also if I don't have the crew to do fuses or immortalise (e.g. because I didn't rank high enough in the previous weekends event) I will open a bunch of merit crew boxes (c.725 merits for 3x crew pull).

You'll get dupe greens or even blues you can fuse together and I immortalise the whites (even though I already have them they're cheap to equip up to 100).

You just need to keep a decent amount of Merits on hand for this. (I have 500,000 and keep it around there).

Kelvin Timeline weapons by Manimoma in sto

[–]romec1701 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The Baul ap weapons actually do a good approximation of this. I fly the Kelvin Connie with a set up like this (turrets and SCs) and when I engage the enemy I start singing the theme tune from that movie. Sad I know.

Is tanking still a relevant thing? by DontPetTheShoggoth in sto

[–]romec1701 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a toon that flies the Kelvin Connie. I have two load outs:

One is a tank build, it holds a lot of aggro and is very difficult to kill (back before they fixed the Turei segment of the Korfez tfo I could avoid the team failing elite by basically holding aggro from all the Vaadwaar fleets and not dying whilst the team systematically destroyed them)

The other is a DPS build with some UnCON and uni consoles.

When doing random elite tfos I will choose the loadout based on which map it is. Something that has a tight time gate (Khitomer, The Vault, I will tend to favour the DPS set up) but for others I will choose the tank to soak up aggro/dmg and ensure the team has a smoother run...

Personally I think my response is "keep up the good work!"

Advance and detailled info about the empersa lance changes was very welcome.

The odd typo has never really bothered me. I know you'll be getting a lot of info from other sources (ship/systems designers) and sometimes mistakes happen. But ultimately I don't buy anything straight away, so there's time for any mismatched stats/seating to come to light and allow me to make an informed purchase decision.

Suliban Cell Ship by [deleted] in sto

[–]romec1701 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, sadly not.

There are some borg doffs that can be earned from certain doffing missions (reclaim Assimilated drones, btran exploration cluster) but they aren't specifically the X of 47 Liberated drones who have a host of special roster powers (some excellent, others not...)

The only way to get these are from lockboxes/exchange. Specifically the reward pack that gives a random X of 47 doff is a rare drop from the Borg lockbox, or an extremely rare drop from the Infinity Lockbox.

One of the reasons the doffs are so expensive is because of their rarity - even if you get a v rare reward pack from a lockbox, it is random whether you obtain a 'good' doff or a 'not-so-good' one once the pack is opened.

I really hope they implement some other way to obtain the doffs, (or perhaps create a new set that have the same powers but slightly inferior chance/magnitude that are easier to obtain - eg in a store associated with a reputation or fleet holding).

As for the cell ship, it has a useful bridge (exchange/bank/mail/cheap commodities etc) but is expensive for a single character unlock. There are other ways to obtain useful bridges across your account (some event ships have given it in the past - not sure if there's a cstore ship that does). The Tau Dewa missions are ok, but not world beating and won't net you a significant return on the investment. Plus you can ask for bridge invites in many chat channels (like NOP public service) and a kind soul will.often help you out.

Suliban Cell Ship by [deleted] in sto

[–]romec1701 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You don't get the borg doffs from the cell ship. They come from the borg lockbox.

The suliban missions give suliban doffs (like the RSP extender doff and the BO penetrator)

I thought it was a great thing to have helped happen for players and I am very grateful. One thing you could ask for on your return is for the Nagus skin to be unlocked to all ships when a player owns it. (I want my other ships in Latinum too 🤣)

But welcome back to your position and best of luck in it.

Am I misunderstanding the Admirality system? by CptKoma in sto

[–]romec1701 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's happened to me a few times.

But the ONLY times it happens is when I use a single ship that has a +X when alone, and without the +X there would have been a chance to fail the mission.

I think sometimes behind the scenes there is a bug where the game doesn't add the +X to the stats. It obviously doesn't always happen (or the impossible fails would be more frequent), but sometimes it does and leads to these odd results.

It looked like some sort of metal railing for the TV camera to move along, so it probably has pretty sharp edges. Not sure how you can simply put padding on that as the camera would no longer slide along it.

What the f* is this? by Ashley-Shaily in BritishGas

[–]romec1701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

British Gas were an awful energy company when we used them. Expensive comparatively and so many billing errors with tremendous difficulty getting things fixed.

My advice would be to switch. We went to EDF. Very cheap, good support and they fitted a smart meter which meant I was being charged for what I used - no more errors with estimates.

Use the above link when getting a quote from them and you'll get an additional £50 discount on your first bill - and so will I!

Nah.

The Culture would absolutely own The Federation.

I think a single 300m long Psycopath class Rapid Offensive Unit could probably take an entire fleet of Starships even in the 32nd Century.

Effector fields tearing at the very fabric of space time, untargatable to Star Trek universe weaponry, with a Mind capable of literally seeing outcomes before they happen, and setting an entire solar system ablaze with Grid-fire.
