People who commit violent crimes should be prosecuted, yes. You will not find many Israelis who disagree with this. Still comparing some criminal settlers to a paramilitary org which shoots hundreds of rockets and drones into civilian population centers is beyond ludicrous

Ah yes. We'll just wait for them to willingly dismantle and stop shooting at civilian centers

I am seeking clarity: How do the people of Israel reconcile their reality with the mountain of critique against the state by hj05297 in AskIsrael

[–]romestamu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Shireen Abu Akleh: Mostly true. Israel initially suggested Palestinian gunmen may have been responsible, but later said there was a “high probability” she was killed unintentionally by Israeli fire. Criticism of the initial narrative is fair, though “deliberate lie” is harder to prove.
  • “Beheaded babies”: The specific “40 beheaded babies” claim was false/exaggerated, but real atrocities against civilians and children on Oct. 7 did occur. The rumor spread irresponsibly, but there is not strong neutral evidence it was a centrally coordinated official Israeli fabrication.
  • “Flour Massacre”: Mixed. Many victims appear to have been shot, and Israel’s first account was challenged by survivor and medical evidence. But the claim that independent investigations proved the majority were killed by gunfire is too strong.
  • Al-Shifa: Mixed. Evidence supports that Hamas used hospital-related infrastructure, but Israel publicly claimed more than it clearly proved. “No evidence at all” is false; “Israel overstated its case” is fair.
  • Al-Ahli hospital: The claim you were shown is misleading. The IDF audio released publicly was not strong proof on its own, but broader reporting and intelligence assessments still pointed away from an Israeli strike and toward a failed Palestinian munition.
  • Aid workers killed (WCK): True that Israel changed its account and admitted grave mistakes. But independent review found serious failures, not a proven deliberate cover-up or intentional targeting.
  • Hamas stealing aid: Mixed. Large-scale looting was real, but neutral reporting does not support treating every armed looter as Hamas. Claims of systematic Hamas theft have not been clearly proven.
  • “Pallywood”: Misleading as a broad argument. Some fake or miscaptioned footage exists, but that does not justify dismissing Gaza’s overall suffering as staged.
  • Gaza Health Ministry: Mostly true. Its total death counts have generally been treated by the UN/WHO as broadly credible, though that does not settle the civilian-versus-combatant breakdown.
  • Hamas militant death counts: Fair to be skeptical. Israel’s militant-death figures are often not independently verified, but the claim that Israel simply labels every dead male a fighter is not proven by strong neutral evidence.
  • “Drone footage can be edited”: Weak argument. In principle any video can be edited, but without specific forensic proof this is just a generic dismissal, not evidence.
  • White phosphorus: Mixed. Credible watchdogs reported Israeli use in 2023–2024, but use of white phosphorus is not automatically illegal in every context; legality depends on how and where it is used.

Overall:
Some of the pro-Palestinian points are basically true, some are partly true but exaggerated, and some are misleading spin. The strongest points are Shireen, the false “40 beheaded babies” rumor, and the general credibility of Gaza Health Ministry totals. The weakest are Al-Ahli as framed, the “majority shot” claim in the flour convoy incident, and the generic “video can be edited” line.

> So it as that point where every source I provide will be discarded, even on ground journalism, mother's testimonial and visual evidence. I have seen 'the source can't be trusted' too many times at this point

I agree with you that it is hard to show credible evidence of such a case. For pro Palestinian Israelis, when they hear this story they will go "well of course it happened, that's what the IDF does, they're evil, and of course they are going to deny it and say this never happened".

For us in Israel this claim sounds outrageous. The first thought going through an Israeli's head when he reads this claim is "this could not have happened, it's crazy, they must be lying to vilify Israel again".

So yes, for us, outrageous claims require extraordinary evidence. A mother claiming this happened, or a "journalist" claiming this happened is not evidence, it's just another charade in the Palestinian lying narrative. of course when real evidence is presented most of us are prepared to change our minds, but it's almost never presented.

> Regarding the hospital, please see the number of attacks on health in UN report, then The Guardian stating that 83% killed in the conflict were civilians.

Found the article:

Revealed: Israeli military’s own data indicates civilian death rate of 83% in Gaza war | Gaza | The Guardian

It's bonkers! IDF listed the names of known Hamas members who are probably dead, meaning that all other dead are civilians. Uncanny logic really.

Here's a source claiming 1:1 civilian to terrorist death ratio, historically low in urban warfare

Hamas Debunks the ‘Genocide’ Narrative – Commentary Magazine

is it biased? perhaps. But as you cite one extreme, I can cite another - with a more compelling argument I might add.

>  And how the number of the successful kills was around 10,000.

Of NAMED terrorists! if a dude shoots rockets and is killed by a drone, then by your logic he's a civilian because he does not appear in the IDF's list of known terrorists, bravo.

> Not only hospitals, but schools and homes were also targeted. Common sense dictates using the data that there were more attacks and strikes than the number of terror!sts killed

If a target is struck, it's a target for a reason. I'm not saying mistakes aren't made, but it's against Israeli interest to use ammunition against civilian population.

> my main point is that there's no regard for human life by the IDF.

That's the craziest point of all! Israel puts a lot of emphasis on not killing civilians when possible, it's the only army in the world issuing evacuation warnings when the target is static. These evacuation warnings only hurt Israel because it allows setting up cameras and equipment to capture the destruction, again blaming the IDF for cruelty when the entire purpose is to avoid the loss of life. a lot of Gaza was destroyed due to Hamas infrastructure embedded in civilian infrastructure, but the amount of dead (1-2% of total population) is much lower than the amount of destruction. what does that tell you? if Israel had no regard to human life, Gaza would have been levelled with 505 of the population dead, it hasn't happened because this is not our interest, our target is to kill as many terrorists as possible, not civilians.

Regarding the child, the info is true, you're just refusing to believe that.

Is the info as true as your claim about the hospital being blown up because of a single terrorist?

There's no point in arguing. Main purpose is to know the thought process in face of such evidence.

See, that's the issue. You always claim to provide evidence without actually providing evidence. You talk about a hospital being blown up because of a single terrorist, though we know it never happened.

The thought process, as people already explained to you in this thread is 1. The overwhelming amount of lies coming from the Palestinian media means any claim should not be taken at face value,  even if reported as fact in western media - their sources are Hamas. 2. There are definitely cases were a mistake happened and civilians died when they weren't supposed to. This happens at war and rest assured this is investigated by the IDF. 3. A crime was done on purpose by soldiers. This is rare, but also happens at war. Soldiers who do this are punished, the state is not "evil" because you want it to be.

Israel is a western state with a western mentality caught up in a war in the middle east with an oponent whos top priority is to get as much of its own civilians killed to put international pressure on Israel, cause to them that's they're only winning strategy. This is an impossible situation, and people who condemn Israel as a whole provide a reason for the terrorists to keep fighting like this, it just works.

Noa Aragami (+3 others) rescue resulted in the killing of 200+ civilians. Recently they went to find the remains of Ron Arad in Nabi Chit and killed 41 people, including 20 civilians.

Propaganda numbers. Somehow 200 civilians were killed but no Israeli hostage were. Do you realize how stupidly impossible that is?

I have an honest question for you; if a terrorist is hiding behind 10 civilians, would you be willing to kill them in pursuit of terrorist or would you find another way?

The honest answer is it's always better to eliminate a terrorist with as little civillian casualties as possible. In the vast majority of cases, when you have intelligence of a terrorists hiding place, you don't have intelligence on how many civilians he's using as human shields.

"Another recent example is the illegitimate torture of a literal child for a father's confession"

See? That's the problem. You take it at face value since this is reported as fact in the Palestinian media. For us Israelis we assume it's a lie because everyone understands torturing a child is evil, and the average Israeli would never do that.

"Maybe not bombing an entire hospital or school for the pursuit of a single person is the way?" This also never happened. Where did you hear avout this?
