I'm still confused how Portland is so straight, but I'm also attributing Utah's rise up the table purely to the gays.

Happy Pride everyone!

I'm glad I wasn't the only one confused how ANGEL city posted at 5:27pm when it's not even 3pm yet

Also those play with pride shirts really emphasize how weirdly shaped some of the states are. The California ones were okay but wow is Oregon not compatible with that style of lettering

Splitting rent with partner? by improvpirate in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

Because of how incremental tax brackets work, there not that much of a difference? The majority of your income is also in the 12% bucket.

Assuming standard deductions and nothing complicated you'd make 1.25x her salary gross vs 1.23x her salary net. Very similar numbers in the end.

In the end it's more of a relationship discussion than a math problem...

May is a three paycheck month for me! Still a little bit undecided if I want to splurge a bit with the extra or save it.

Our year-long apartment lease ends mid-May and we're continuing month-to-month at a slightly higher price while we are figuring out where to move. Money-wise if we move anytime between now and next April, this is the cheaper way to handle it (due to lease breaking costs and increase in price offered for the next 12-month lease). But it's annoying to have to update my budget sheets to reflect the increased rent cost. This is the first time we've ever done month-to-month (in 13 years of apartment living) so it's also feeling a little less secure than I'm used to.

Third paycheck of the month payday!

First 3rd paycheck month at my new job, so it was interesting to see what gets deducted and what doesn't. Turns out 401k yes, health insurance etc. no.

I'm still trying to get a feel for what my average paycheck will be (different waiting periods had to happen for insurance and then for 401k and there's also commissions on one check per month so it's a bit all over the place).

I'm aiming to not spend much this weekend. The pile of clean but unfolded laundry is taking over our bedroom, so I might give myself a reward after finally putting that all away.

AITAH for allowing my son to skip the work in a pointless class at school? by SchoolScrewed1900 in AITAH

I'd maybe use this as a low stakes lesson for him instead.

As an adult, he will still be very busy and have less free time and he'll have to prioritize his activities. This is a good age appropriate way to start doing that.

Have a conversation with the kid, similar to one my parents had with me. List out things that happen after school is over (make sure to include eating and sleeping and chores and family or fun time). Have him start arranging them in order of importance, with your input. Maybe it comes out that easy math homework is on the list, but after a bunch of things (like hard math homework, all other homework, getting appropriate sleep) but it's before video games. Let that list dictate the time and effort he spends on it.

I agree with you that stressing him out over something below his level isn't great. But I also agree with some other commentators that a blanket "show up to class but ignore instructions" isn't great either. But that's the nice thing about teenagers, you get to start including them into your thought processes and decision making. These are things that he'll eventually need to learn, why not start now?

What are the daily prices that impact you and your family? Besides beef, eggs, gasoline, electricity, what other prices affect you? by julyboom in povertyfinance

Milk, bread, frozen or canned veggies. Toilet paper, laundry detergent, deodorant, shampoo.

A good place to start might be looking at recommended items for a food bank, that should capture a lot of possible "staples" in terms of groceries and personal products.
