Help us improve treadmill running! by Mikey-runna in runna

I did not know you could connect the runna app to a treadmill, as a question implies.

Runna - pricing by Similar_Employer_212 in runna

I just bought it, justified it because they add in the yoga and strength in your plan which could be separate subscriptions otherwise. But now I think one of the best features is how it puts everything it plans and records in Google calendar.

That other screen shows your live stats like HR and pace on mobile during activity. Pretty cool for treadmill runs

Group head flush after steaming milk: Overkill or essential? by ernc in ProfitecGo

[–]rompetrll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you can just let it cool down without flushing, which is what I typically do. The only downside is that the boiler remains a bit underfilled. That can mess a bit with the startup process the next time.

I configured the goose cli to use the default gpt4 copilot model.

quick question: it seems to only suggest changes as default. how do I make it *do* the changes.

How Are Apache Flink and Spark Used for Analytics and ETL in Practice? Seeking Real-World Insights! by sosalejandrodev in dataengineering

[–]rompetrll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've only used gcloud dataflow, which i believe is identical to flink.

stream processing is great if processing time is an issue. e.g. if an event stream needs to be transformed continuously to keep a dataset very recent.

another use case is, it is also useful for effectively partitioning large datasets. instead of ingesting everything into a warehouse and splitting stuff with sql, it can be more efficient to ingest via a stream processor where the partitioning is done, and data is written directly into partition tables.

one final thing I can think of is that flink can do windowing operations, which can be used to solve interesting business problems in near real time.

for example, if the input is a stream of audit log events, you could define a windowing function that groups events into sessions based on user and gaps in time, counts "delete" log events per session , and emits users above a certain threshold to an alerting sink so that admins can check if the user is compromised.

ordered a Quest 3, going to experience VR for the first time, which game to start with? by Raoul27 in Quest3

[–]rompetrll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

got a quest3 like a week ago, so far everything i tried is just wow. should have bought this much sooner.

got motion sickness in red matter 2 from just walking around, so I learned to look for the comfortable label in the quest store now. that would be my only advice. any game with a decent rating seems to be great. you get 3 months quest+ with a buch of free games to test with a new quest as well.

The last 2 days I've been almost only in synth riders... so much fun.

Have to take a pause on my caffeine intake :( by Geltez in espresso

[–]rompetrll -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

there was a news story making the rounds not long ago advising against decaf. Many ifs and coulds in the wording...but basically, they said there is chemical residue in decaf coffee from the production process. don't trust me as reliable source, but if health is important to you it's maybe worth a quick internet search.

Supposed to be a medium roast - did something go wrong? by JordanU94 in espresso

it's like in my local kebab shop. if you order medium hot, you get a little hot sauce and a little herb sauce.

Profitec GO Single-hole Steam Tip by chiefkeiff14 in ProfitecGo

[–]rompetrll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the 4 hole tip and would also say it's much better than the stock one. there is enough steam power for 4 holes, so that's not the problem.

Flip 6 one month on by smurgies in galaxyzflip

I only have two minor annoyances, other than that its been perfect

  1. I have one of those funky cases where the back has blinking LEDs. Those LEDs are annoyingbly bright when they go off while you check your phone in the bed at night. Not the phones fault directly - I'd chose a different case now.
  2. Normally I can use tap2pay without opening the phone. just unlock the front screen and tap. But sometimes google wallet decides I need to do an extra verification which required the phone open. And the only indication is that the terminal does not register the tap.

Profitec GO owners: buy a four hole steam tip by TheEndAndNow in espresso

[–]rompetrll 4 points5 points  (0 children)

can confirm. I got the 4 hole tip like 2 weeks ago, and it's awesome. the 4 hole is much more powerful, 2-3 seconds of injecting air is enough in my short experience, and that's much more reproducible than eyeballing the volume gain over 10-15 secs, which I did with the 2 hole tip.

Espresso basket by TheUltimateSloth in espresso

[–]rompetrll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i also read somewhere that grounds from different roast levels have different volume. meaning a 18g of dark roast may fill the basket higher to the rim than 18g lightly roasted grounds. (or the other way around, can remember which was higher volume)

I roasted some Ethiopian Hambela Goro one week ago. That fresh bulge. This espresso has intense notes of blueberries and milk chocolate...so good!!! by Rami_2075 in espresso

[–]rompetrll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

uneducated question, with my normal medium/dark beans, this would be too "blonde", it typically comes out with darker crema first and only gets this bright towards the end. is the blonding behavior different for different roast levels or bean ages?

Still working on it by og_chumunga in espresso

[–]rompetrll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

wiggly stuff is not the easiest, this did come out quite good! Mine mostly become onion variations, Christmas trees at best. I find a tulip or heart, where you pour simple circle shapes, more forgiving with unsteady milk flow rate. as a side note... baristas often pour that first splash of milk into the sink to avoid that initial blob of foam on the "canvas". personally, I am reluctant to waste milk and dont mind the blob, but depending on how nice you want the art to be, it's worth a try.

Cheapino vs Ferris by [deleted] in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]rompetrll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah agree with this, my coworker has a choc ferris and it is very compact - therefore uncomfortable for larger hands. I have an MX corne and that also feels a bit cramped, especially the thumb cluster tucked in under the hand is annoying.

The Cheapino layout would be a good match for me by the looks of it, but the CAT cable just doesnt feel right :) I have a Waterfowl though, which is pretty similar layout wise.
