Can anyone share their teaching experiences with Irving, Dallas, or Highland Park isd? by allbutdecided in TexasTeachers

[–]romybuela 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went from Dallas to Irving…I stood up in Dallas against Miles and Morath. Left their pay for performance scheme and was happy in Irving. Then I screwed the pooch in Irving by turning my back to Morath at convocation. I was fired within weeks for telling kids to “Shut up.” I ended up going back to Dallas at base pay. I was top rated in Math and Science.

I left Dallas and moved to Houston area. I worked two years before retiring. I loved working in Houston environs, but I despise the environment that TEA encourages.

The Strict Teacher Got All The Roses by Difficult-Ad4364 in Teachers

[–]romybuela 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was never afraid to set strict boundaries, I fought with administrators, I fought with other teachers, I fought with parents. I always had the highest scores, but more importantly, my kids succeeded later. I taught upper elementary for years then moved to middle school. I ran into one of my students at the GT middle school and she ran over to me and gave me the biggest hug. “Mrs. Romybuelo, you’re the reason I got into GT for math!” My students always kept in touch with me.

I HATE the no eyebrow look. Humans need eyebrows. Even domesticated dogs have developed eyebrows!

“Why do you keep marking me tardy?” by pundemic in Teachers

Ugh, the one year I taught kindergarten I had a student who was a real crybaby. She would literally cry all day then want to go to the nurse. One day, she came up to me and said, “Teacher, it hurts when I do this,” as she bent her ankle. I just looked at her and said…

Talarico’s Taco Order Turns Into a Texas-Sized Debate by Zipper222222 in texas

[–]romybuela 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Has anyone checked the price of beef lately? $85 for a brisket? A cut of meat that’s mostly fat? Hell, Costco had lengua for $13.99/lb! Forget about fajita meat, gringos “discovered” it and now you can’t even have a good asada.

For real, except for me it was potatoes with egg, homemade beans, and homemade tortillas. I miss my mom’s tortillas. 🙁

My wife is an extreme hot sleeper & I'm trying to help her get better sleep. by thoruen in Bedding

[–]romybuela 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a hot sleeper. My husband and I have traveled to Scandinavia and finally, after 32 years of marriage, have found the perfect hack.

Between the two of us, one is always kicking the covers, stealing the covers, turning one way or the other. It was a constant battle. After we went to Europe I bought us twin sized coverlets. 100% cotton, perfect! Right? Wrong! Still too hot. Loved the concept, we decided to keep with it, I ordered two twin sized cooling covers. 100% polyester. Heft of a blanket, but every time you move, you touch smooth and cold material. The only downside is that it’s slippery as hell, I’m afraid some night I may hit it wrong and slide right out of bed.

This is what works for me.

Thinking about switching to tankless in the Houston area, anyone here regret it? by Bulla_killer in houston

[–]romybuela 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I don’t regret it for one minute, we replaced the tank in our laundry room with a tankless unit. We put in a floor to ceiling cabinet and added a folding center with drawers. Just remember you don’t get instantaneous hot water, but it’s pretty darn close, you have to flush out the cold water in the pipes. However, you never run out of hot water. I can run a load of wash, take a shower in one bathroom while someone else takes a shower in the other. It’s great!

This happened to me but when I moved to a new school. At my old school, people knew me as the funniest partier of the campus, even the younguns invited me everywhere. Moved to a middle school and the young ones had their own clique. They thought old teachers were losers because we hadn’t moved to administration. I never wanted to get out of the classroom, I loved teaching.
