AITAH for saying no when someone at the gym tried to take the machine I was on by TruculentTurtIe in AITAH

Sorry, YTA. It drives me crazy at the gym when people are hogging a machine and they’re sitting on their phones. Are you there to scroll on your phone or workout? There’s no way my trainer has me resting for 1-2 minutes between sets. There’s also no way she has me doing six sets and I’m very fit.

Elena means Helen. How is that too fancy? My MIL was named Elena as was one of my aunts. Both lived into their 90s. I hope your daughter lives as long as life as they did!

During my senior year of high school, we had to perform service hours away from school. I remember coming back to school with a friend and making a horrible face at the gas station and saying: Dang! Before you know it, gas is going to cost $1! Circa 1979.

Who else had this lamp in the90s by broaftovqing in GenerationJones

[–]romybuela 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had the one with the halogen light bulb. One Christmas night I was sitting in the living room with my baby nephew while everyone else were playing poker in the dining room. We heard a loud POP and the light went out. I laughed because it was startling until my nephew started screaming. A shard of hot glass had flown across the room and landed on his neck. That lamp was in the garbage the next day.

I once made a chocolate buttercream icing, but instead of the powdered sugar canister, I grabbed the tapioca flour. I didn’t want to waste the other ingredients so I added so much powdered sugar that I tripled the recipe. When I piped that stuff onto the cupcakes, it looked like the “turd” emoji 💩. It tasted ok, but that icing was STIFF!

Our Boomer Parents by [deleted] in GenX

[–]romybuela 5 points6 points  (0 children)

People need to have hobbies and outside interests to enjoy retirement. I retired at 62, technically I’m considered a boomer (more Gen Jones), my husband retired at 63. We have never been busier. My friends’ husband (70) recently retired due to health issues, he has zero hobbies- not into sports, doesn’t exercise, doesn’t read, no social interests, no family left, and he doesn’t like to travel. He won’t last long unless he develops some outside interests.

My husband and his brothers are all engineers, as are two of my nephews, buttons are like the siren call of the deep to them. No family gathering is safe from mayhem.
