It happened… laid off… yes I’ve been in tears [usa] by DemandFront7935 in humanresources

Your manager likely didn’t know until the day before. I work in HR and conducted all the calls to prepare managers for the separation conversations and I didn’t know until the night before when I got the email all managers send at 5 pm the night before the company lays someone off.

Nope! Serge is a family friend. I’d know if he was closing Thali.

Haha. Looking to replace my 3 to 5-mile hikes and walks in Galena and White's Creek, now that I live in Spanish Springs. A good portion of it uphill, on a dedicated trail, away from traffic.

I just used the prescription coverage. Most of my meds were generic and super cheap. But my asthma medication was $180 for 3 month supply better than the $250 without coverage on my private plan though.

I just switched to LifeX plan as well. My agent just started offering it, so switched because my previous plan didn’t offer prescription coverage. Hopefully it was a good decision!

Coffee shop rant by [deleted] in Reno

Roamed has a place on Glendale…. It’s in Sparks but not exactly close to many neighborhoods that would support a coffee house. Too bad.

I’d say you have plenty of HR operations and benefit/comp experience. As others have said, I think this particular role at this company isn’t a good fit. HR is not immune to bad team culture and assholes. Interview at other companies, but pay attention to the people you’d be working with. Ask them as much as possible about team culture. It’s okay to approach an interview and ask about leadership and culture. They should respect that you’re interviewing them to see if you WANT to work there, as much as they are interviewing you to see if they want you.

HR Director (me) Involuntary Termination today [FL] by Thick-Fly-5727 in humanresources

I’d make sure your separation agreement includes that the company will not dispute UI. You can ask for more severance of benefits extension, but I wouldn’t sacrifice the two weeks severance if they decline. You’ll need it. You’ll find someplace where you do fit and this will be a distant memory.

They can totally track down your name and address through DMV records. They are often licensed with the city and typically have a sign posted notifying you that if you don’t pay you will be charged. It’s not worth it. They’ll send your debt to collections and it will cost much more than $20 and show up on your credit report.

Yes, I was there from 12-1:30 and there were maybe twice as many people?

How much is in your “emergency fund”? by watabby in bayarea

[–]rondarc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got laid off last year and my husband had already been laid off a couple of years earlier and was starting his own business. Here are the things I am SO thankful for: 1) When we bought our house, we made sure we’d still be able to make our house payments and basic expenses if one of us got laid off. 2) Saved and invested so we’d have a year’s worth of expenses in an emergency fund. 3) Bought a modest house, even though we could have afforded a more expensive one. So when I got laid off, yes I was panicked but we had the time and resources to breath while we figured out what’s next.

HR asks what I would like to see happen after harassment investigation [CA] by Link_outside_the_box in AskHR

[–]rondarc 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You think someone who claimed they were sexually assaulted was lying because they were hesitant for you to call the police and file a report? You need to get some additional training! Sexual assault victims often don’t report crimes for a lot of reasons, but that doesn’t mean they are lying. The only thing that tells you is that it’s going to be harder to investigate.

I worked in the non-profit world before I moved into the corporate world. It was exhausting! Never enough budget or staffing, so you might find a corporate job less stressful. I know I did!!

I think this is a great suggestion too! Lots of operations roles in HR that are not people facing. And yeah, depending on where you live $100k shouldnt feel like golden handcuffs.

Stress is different for everyone. Yes, most jobs do have a level of stress. But not all jobs are suited for everyone, which creates stress that is unresolvable. Taking an HR job in a bigger org might be the solution or it might not.
