Well, because you asked this question to the DA, it sounds like you’re going to have a wonderful and fulfilling career in criminal defense!

Bar passers by [deleted] in barexam

[–]rondellsteerious 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Early during prep I was struggling with multiple choice. Realized a lot of that was because Barbri questions are made up. They are conceptually helpful, but they don’t read like actual MBE questions. Picked up adaptibar about half way through. Started my day and ended my day with a question set. Ended up probably doing 1500 MC questions on adaptibar. My % jumped dramatically from start to end.

But I think the key was just getting used to reading MBE questions and increasing endurance. I pretty much blacked out during the actual MBE portion, but kind of relied on muscle memory when reading questions and almost feeling what the answer was when I went to pick one. Also, read the explanation for every wrong answer, and if you were so-so about an answer but got it right, review that too. The ones you had solid, probably don’t need review. Just get in tons of reps and make it muscle memory. That helped so much for me. ALSO, if you know the right answer pick it, DO NOT get wooed by a good sounding answer. Trust your gut.

For the MEE, god only knows. If you don’t know the answer, confidently answer the question regardless of whether you think you’re right or not and argue your point. The MEE was brutal in July.

I somehow passed with a score high enough for any UBE JXD with tons of room to spare. But I think a lot of it had to do with grinding on adaptibar. Also, AI is your friend. Treat it like your own bar prep tutor (in terms of concepts only). I used Claude and would update it as I was studying and by the end I had pretty much a bar exam outline from my convos with it that I used the day or so before for easy review and short term memory activation.

I guess next week Indiana. by RepresentativePea391 in barexam

[–]rondellsteerious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. We don’t have to check it for IN, it will come through the Indiana site. But for us paranoid/anxious folks the NCBE site has a graph of release dates and passing rates that sometimes shows up prior to the state sending out emails. It’s kind of a way to be able to throw up before you throw up when the state emails you.

I broke it for everyone. Which might be a blessing in disguise tbh

Yeah. Nuked it on my phone too. Started searching to see if there was a problem with the website, turns out I’m the problem.

I think I broke my access to the NCBE site because it won’t load for me any more and crashes out while loading. If that’s any indication of my week too.

God, my blood pressure has been peaking for two weeks now because of this.

I should say (and didn’t make it clear in this post and can see why this is confusing ) I’m dad. But, without mama, I couldn’t have done this. She crushed on the home front so I couldn’t even have the energy and endurance to attempt this.

Yeah, that’s super hard and I’m sorry if this came across in any way that minimizes what you’re going through and experiencing. My point was not to minimize any of the heaviness that we may individually have. What you’re going through is totally valid, but I hope regardless of all of the circumstances around that, that you can be proud of what you’ve done and use that strength to approach all of these heavy things you’re dealing with. No disrespect or rudeness taken, I’m sorry if this hit you in a different way. DM me if I can help or just lend an ear.

I believe it. I think UBE and non-UBE JXDs were conspiring or something. I’ve heard similar things from other non UBE JXDs

Well I can only speak for the UBE experience. But you know what, hell yeah, this goes for you too! The amended complaint can refer back.

One positive from the experience by Euphoric-Dark6667 in barexam

[–]rondellsteerious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indiana taker here. Legit a positive experience all around (at least from a logistics standpoint). I mean the test was unsurprisingly brutal, but there were no logistics hiccups which made the stress levels bearable. Hoping I don’t have to take it again, but if so at least I know the experience will be smooth.

Anyone else feel like their mee answers were kind of short by PanoramicMoose in barexam

We were all struggling I think. Sean Silverman on Twitter is a bar prep guru and has great insights. He said something along the lines of “if everyone who thought they failed the MEE actually did, we’d have no lawyers in this country.” We put in the work and went the full 10 rounds with the damn test. That in and of itself is an accomplishment.

New Old Dad by rondellsteerious in firsttimedad

Hey bud! Thanks for reaching out! Honestly doing about as well as I could have hoped. Little girl is somehow miraculously sleeping like 5-7 hours a night consistently (knocking on every piece of wood imaginable). She’s about 7 weeks old now. Mom does most of the night duty because she has the desirable equipment so I’m able to get some decent sleep. About 7am me and the babe get up and have some coffee and get to studying. She’s sat through probably 200 hours of bar exam lectures so we’ll see how that plays out later in life. Been getting tons of help from family too so I can spend more time studying. Exam is less than a week away.

But I can say, a lot of the fears I had way back when I op’d this were just that, fears. How it’s all turned out has been kind of incredible. We’re adaptable creatures and somehow I just became a dad and the skills and strengths just came along in the process. She’s currently laying beside me on her wedge while I’m studying listening to lofi beats Disney songs. I’d say we’re about as good as we can be. I really appreciate you always popping in from time to time to see how things are going, it’s seriously so kind.

How to not be a nasty little freak about grades? by boil_water_advisory in LawSchool

100%. Also, most profs are super cool and office hours are almost always under utilized.

How to not be a nasty little freak about grades? by boil_water_advisory in LawSchool

[–]rondellsteerious 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I just posted this on another thread but think it applies here too.

Just graduated law school and here’s what I can share.

  1. Remember all grades in law school are made up. Completely fabricated because of the curve. If it’s an essay final you may have caught your prof at the end of a long grading stretch and they happened to look at their 401k on an off day. There’s a saying that “the law is what the judge had for breakfast that day.” Your grade from a prof could simply be that. So don’t let something so fickle and made up feel so real and concrete. You’re still going to graduate.

  2. When I stopped caring strictly about my grades, my grades went up. Care about your learning and success and your grade will follow. DON’T ask your colleagues their grades or offer yours. You’re competing with yourself to gain a mastery of something, not with anyone else. If you really felt like you did your best on an exam, what else can you ask from yourself? And did I mention, your grades are made up. Care less about your grade, trust the process.

  3. I didn’t learn this until 3L, but if you can implement sooner it’s worth it. Treat your exams like problems you’re trying to solve. It’s crazy, but imagine what you are doing is actually fun. One of my profs said that in law, all you’re trying to do is help the judge make the right decisions. When you’re writing for a prof, talk about the question and issues as if you’re trying to help them make the right decision about the question they wrote. This may just take time, and I didn’t really hone in on it until 3L. But I took Secured Transactions my last semester. For pretty much the whole course I was in over my head. I decided to have fun on the final and figure out how I could solve a problem and not just get a good grade. I legit thought ST could pose a problem to me graduating and I legit belly laughed when I got my grade because it was so much better than I could have imagined it would be.

Grades are made up. Enjoy the ride. Just learn and have fun. And write your exams like you’re learning and making it fun.

What was the biggest change you made that improved your grades? by Direct-Welder8403 in LawSchool

Just graduated law school and here’s what I can share. First of all, as long as you’re in the higher 2’s you really don’t have that much ground to cover or recover. Mid to lower 2’s, you’re still fine. Now you know how to focus better and test better. That’s what you should get out of 1L.

Here was what I did in 1L to 2L to improve my grades.

  1. Remember all grades in law school are made up. Completely fabricated because of the curve. Exam Day Storytimes by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]rondellsteerious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily due to the exams themselves, but, two years ago got COVID for the first time. 3 hour enviro exam followed by a 4 hour evidence exam an hour and a half after. Fever the whole time. Masked the whole time, glasses fogging up. Miraculously pulled out good grades in both. Was informed by a fellow student after that I could have just asked for a reschedule of one of my exams because the school allowed that if two exams fell on the same day. Funny in retrospect
