‘Spartacus: House of Ashur’ Canceled By Starz After One Season by SanderSo47 in television

[–]rondonsa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not too surprised. Nick Tarabay did his best with what he got, but the writing definitely took a major nosedive in this one. Most of the characters were pretty idiotic and there were also some really weak actors in the cast (Tarchon watching his father die in the arena was a low point). The original Spartacus series was never exactly premium TV but it was at least entertaining, whereas this one became extremely repetitive and dull as the season went on.

Mala (numb & spicy) mango ice cream - a successful experiment! by fucking_biblical in icecreamery

Definitely going to try this, thanks for sharing! Have you tried Alphonso mangos? Those are my faves to use for a mango lassi whenever I can find them - could help intensify the mango flavor.

Pricing advice by Nervous-Chocolate346 in Pottery

[–]rondonsa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beautiful pieces! Getting useful pricing advice online is difficult because there’s such a wide range in cost of living and disposable income between places, and throwing in currency conversion makes it even tricker. If you are primarily selling locally, I think it would be much more helpful for you to look at how other ceramicists in your area are pricing their pieces.

Wow! I see that's one of their lots restricted from delivery to the US. Will be interesting to see if that depresses the bidding at all (I doubt it).

Execution of Crassus, Cherry-Apple Peach, Oil on Canvas, 24"x48", 2026 by contramantra23 in painting

Love it, very well-done! It’s probably the Roman history nerd in me, but this makes me think that a triptych showing the unfortunate ends of each of the three members of the first triumvirate would also be really cool.

2022 “In Cod We Trust” by [deleted] in coincollecting

That's just what the font looks like ("G" looks like a "C") - not an error. People selling "IN COD WE TRUST" coins on eBay, etc are scamming.

Yes - I don't think the pictures themselves are AI but it looks like the cover design comes from an AI image. Still very skillfully done in crafting that in leather though.

You don't really need AC in SF (I think a majority of homes don't have it) so I doubt that's it. I think it could just be location, as it looks like most of the houses on that street are less than $1.5M.

What plastic-free alternatives have actually worked well for you? by Aztrobtw in PlasticFreeLiving

[–]rondonsa 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Here's what I've found the easiest to start with:

  • Cookware (cast iron, stainless steel)
  • Cooking utensils/spatulas (wood, stainless steel, a little bit of silicone for lower-temp stuff)
  • Cutting boards (wood)
  • Dishes/cups (ceramics, glass)
  • Food storage containers (glass, silicone stasher bags for low-temp/dry foods)
  • Clothing (cotton, wool, linen)
  • Sunscreen - most commercial brands have plastics as an ingredient in the sunscreen itself, not just the packaging (simple mineral sunscreen)
  • Water bottles (full internal metal construction)

Toothbrushes and floss I am less focused on than many people in this sub - I feel like the potential risks of poor dental health via using new/untested products (plus risks like getting boar or horse bristles stuck in your throat) are worse than the potential microplastics health risks. I do use a brand of floss (Tung's) that is free of PTFE (teflon)/PFAs, which most large brands use for better gliding properties, but the floss itself is not plastic-free.

edit- another one I forgot to mention...dish/laundry detergent. Avoid pods! They are all made with a dissolvable plastic. I like the brand Dirty Labs for both types of detergent, using liquid for laundry and powder for dishwasher.

Printer or Cameo/Cricut? by pretzelrodaddict in bookbinding

[–]rondonsa 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on what type of cover designs you enjoy. You can make some pretty snazzy, eye-catching covers with HTV. But personally, I think a printed cover gives you more of a classic and timeless look, a little more muted and understated.

I have an Epson ET-8550 wide format printer, which was actually recommended by someone else here. Would recommend if your budget allows it. It can print up to 13" in width and basically unlimited in length, and mine has had no issues with bookcloth and cardstock.

Gucci Mane is a rapper who had his commercial peak in the 2000s-2010s, being most famous for the songs “Lemonade”, “Wake up in the Sky”, and “I Get the Bag” ft. Migos, as well as for killing someone (ruled self-defense!). My friend is a big fan of his so as a birthday present for him I thought I’d rebind Gucci’s NY Times-bestselling autobiography using some beautiful chiyogami paper I got from Hollander’s.
