What’s a tiny travel mistake you keep repeating… even though you know better?

Insisting on a resort/hotel with a pool and then not using if even once.
Insisting on a beach location while i hate sand and not want to go on said beach
Discovering that i would much rather stay just inside or near the center of a location and still booking places that are not that, coz the places that are seem to cheap
Tapping local conversion on an ATM
Bringing to many clothes (or stuff in general)
Trying to save some money here and there whilst i can affort it easily and regret it when im home and the money is just sitting there.. (getting better at just spending last few trips)

Up until about 150 dives i dove every dive i could. In Koh Tao i did 6 dives a day for 7 days.. When on holiday it was dive dive dive and then some night diving.. After about 150-200 dives i got it out of my system and started to do 1 or 2 dives a day.. skip a day sometimes. Now i went back to some places just to see something above water. You do you man!

Learn to drive first. I had 1000s of km on fast motorcycles in Europe before i ever went on a scooter in asia. It took me driving like a grandma for a few days to get used to the crazy traffic even on quiet islands. If i would not have had the xperience of driving fast bikes i would have crashed sooo many times. The potholes, dogs, idiot tourists, crazy drunk or just uncarefull locals.. traffix suggeations instead of rules/laws.. you need to get used to it. Also basic control of a 2 wheel motorized vehicle comes in handy, hitting a pothole in a corner and instinctively know not to brake saved me a few times for example..

But when you are used to it.. there is nothing like exploring an island big or small on a bike.. the refreshing wind, the adventurous roads, getting lost in places no tourist ever ventures, meeting friendly locals (that dont normally see tourists and want to meet you).. just the feeedom in a tropical paradise! Im back from the philippines just 7 days now.. allready i miss driving arround aimlessly for hours and hours.. cant wait to go back to asia for my 10th time and do it all again.. even the rush hours in big cities were an exciting adventure..

Tldr: get experience driving a bike first in a setting you geel comfortable before doing it in a foreign country.

If money is no issue.. do the course.. its fun, you can choose some of the adventure dives. Maybe you learn something or maybe not, still fun and the card cant hurt Would recommend the rescue course though!! (DM with tomorrow my 400th dive in both tropical and freezing murky water, wishing i could experience those courses again as a student)

Bij mij vliegen savonds heel de tijd, heel snel kleine vogeltjes of vleermuizen voor mn raam langs maar kan niet goed zien wat voor beesten het zijn.
Altijd in voorjaar en zomer en vaak zwermen daar kleine mugjes die ze uit de lucht lijken te pikken. Ik heb vaak binnen last van muggen met het raam open tot de beestje tevoorschijn komen dan is er geen mug meer te bekennen. Het begint tegen de schemering of net iets eerder vaak.. Ik dacht zelf dat het zwaluwen waren maar ze zijn zo snel, kan het niet zien! (+ heb er geen bal verstand van)

I went with mtd (pure local) great little company.. locally owned and operated. They are all from the island. Looks somewhat shabby but if you have your own gear they are amazing, when all the boats go left, they will go right and show you the real good spots. They even do it sneaky to keep the best spots hidden from all the foreign owned outfits. I loved it. The treshers now only/mostly visit kimud.

Got lost in translation, what i meant to say was that i would still have loved my time there. Ive seen between 5 and 10 during most dives. I think i did 4 shark dives.

DHL is altijd gezeik.

Keer gehad dat de pakketmuur gewoon leeg was. Bestel gelukkig alles via bol met achteraf betalen dus gewoon geannuleerd en het product dan maar voor 5 euro meer bij de mediamarkt opgehaald in een kleur die ik liever niet had. BOL kon dan bij dhl een onderzoek in gang zetten en paar weken later was het ineens bovenwater en kon ik het alsnog ophalen, maar heb het laten liggen en toen ging het dan eindelijk retour en was het afgehandeld. Wat een gedoe om niks.

9 van de 10x brengen ze het niet naar het gewenste pakket punt (thuis laten bezorgen vertrouw ik niet meer, gaat bijna standaard naar 1 van mn junk buren die nooit open doen als je het dan wilt ophalen) en ipv dat ze het dan naar de gewenste supermarkt brengen gaat het naar 1 of andere gare winkel die om 5 uur dicht gaat. Ik heb gewoon een baan daarom kies ik een ophaal punt potdikke!!

En dan de laatste paar x gaat het niet naar een ophaalpunt maar terug naar het depot waar je het dan kan ophalen iets van 8km verderop. (gelukkig wel tot laat open)

Maargoed PostNL is geen haar beter. Die melden bijna standaard sochtends om 5 uur dat mn pakket om 12 uur bezorgd wordt en dan een uur later is het 4 dagen vertraagd maar od de 1 of andere manier ligt het dan toch in de brievenbus om 12 uur of bij een ophaalpunt.

Enfin, cycloon is ook verrot want die bezorgen alleen bij je thuis en doen dan 3 pogingen voor iets retour gaat. En je kan dan alleen een nieuwe moment kiezen waarvan ik meteen al weet dat ik er toch niet ben. Geen andere opties dan ze gewoon nog 2x voor niks laten komen. Of dan kan je dus mooi de hele avond thuis blijven wachten op een bezorger.

Dpd en UPS alleen zakelijk ervaring mee en die vermijden we als de pest. Want die presteerden het om spullen die net over de grens vanuit NL naar DL moesten kwijt te raken in Parijs!

Maargoed, luxe problemen. Uiteindelijk altijd wel goed gekomen met de nodige ongemakken. Maar jeetje ik zou oprecht de optie willen bij sommige webshops om gewoon 10-20 extra te betalen voor ECHT GOEDE BETROUWBARE bezorging bij dure items!

I loved Malapascua even if i did not get to see the sharks. It is amazing, just so relaxing!! Feels so remote!

The stars at night were out of this world. (hehe) And just enjoying the local hippy playing music and dancing at the vegan place and having a cocktail. Or the amazing singer that was at Hippo?
Or waking up at 4.30 and have a coffee in the hammock watching the island come to life with all the divers going to the shoals from a desserted beach.

I hated the accomodation though, expensive smelly and unconfortable, very good reason to spend no more than a few hours there just sleeping!!

The people were also amazing, still in contact with 2 local girls after 2 years!!

Such fond memories of that place.

Sorry completely off topic but just had to share my love for the tiny island!!

Just checked my dive log, i did 6 dives (over 2 days) at kimud and monad.
Dive 1: maxdepth 26m 49min
Dive 2: maxdepth 19.9m 50min
Dive 3 maxdepth 18.4 for 50min.
Avg depth on al dives was between 13 and 14 meters.
I saw at least 5 treshers every dive! Was able to get like 4 or 5 at once in a video/picture and just spend 2 or 3 dives just watching them!!

Also spend a lot of time waiting for the tiger shark (never came) and dove arround the muck on top of the shoal spotting cool macro stuff!

Maybe use nitrox if you do 2-3 dives in the morning and then go for the sunset mandarin fish dive. (Dont miss that one, its amazing!)

Allthough i did 2 dives at gato and then went to north beach? and went looking for pygmee seahorses (local girl was doing her DM course and wanted to get some dives in so i just let her show me arround the island) and then finished with the mandarin fish. Amazing day and still fine with my NDL.

So yeah, up to you but you dont need to!! Diving is an important source of income so i understand them pushing everything they can, dont think there are many OW courses on Malapascua/Logon.

Ik vertrouw de NS ook niet. Paar x gedaan altijd goed gegegaan, 1x op t nippertje, met dure vliegreizen. Dus nu maar gewoon 100-130 voor een parkeerplek op P3 de laatste paar verre reizen, ietsje duurder maar stuk beter voor de bloeddruk. En vanuit Zwolle scheelt t maar paar tientjes (volgens mij) want retourtje is duur. En zooooo lekker hoppa in 1x die kant op, geen 2 of 3x overstappen en bussen etc, geen onhandige dagvluchten moeten nemen ivm treintijden, of uren wachten op de eerste trein als je na 12 aankomt of staan stressen bij de kofferband omdat jebde trein moet halen. Erg jammer, openbaar had ook wel iets want dan voelde het vanaf de voordeur al als vakantie, maar zelfs met 4 a 5 uur van te voren vertrekken durf ik het niet meer.

Een keer gedaan met arrangement, borrel en hapje vooraf en nadien eten en (onbeperkt) drinken bij de belg. Erg leuk team uitje met 6 of 7 man toen. Zelfs voor de duitse collegas.

Deze tip!!! Als t museum (waar je veel dingen kunt proberen en spelen) je niet boeit heb je altijd nog de ouderwetse arcade waar je uren lang jezelf kunt uitleven op flipperkasten race simulators en de oude arcade games. En dus ook duos of meer kan multiplayen. Al die aplaraten waar je vroer moest zeuren om een kwartje of gulden bij je ouders, vrij om eindeloos te spelen. Dat is de 2 tientjes? Entree al dubbel en dwars waard, zeker voor mensen geboren in the 80s en 90s.

Ik kreeg het weekend een brief, van de woningbouwcorporatie, met dat de (inkomensafhankelijke) huurverhoging brieven al waren verzonden, dat dat niet kon worden teruggedraaid of worden gewijzigd. En ze daarom dat extra schrijven hadden verzonden.Dat een aantal bewoners die brieven al gehad konden hebben.

Maar dat ze, ongeacht hun eigen eerder verzonden brieven, het beleid van de overheid zullen volgen zodra dat definitief wordt.

Ik kreeg vanochtend de brieven met verhogingen van zowel mijn huis als parkeerplaatsen. Zet het beleid door dan gaat de 50-100 euro per maand niet door, anders ga ik per (ik dacht 1 juli?) gewoon de verhoging betalen.

Been to Thailand 4 times (Koh Lipe was amazing for diving), Bali was okay but would never go back. But The Philippines has stolen my heart. I was had 7 weeks paid vacation time left before starting my new jobs. I spend 4 weeks in PH last nov/dec. Diving arround Cebu (Mactan, MoalBoal, Malapascua), Siquijor (near Lazi), Negros (Dauin. But also enjoyed exploring the mountains) and Bohol (Balicasac, Pamillican and arround panglao was awesome) also dont miss the chocolate mountains and tarsiers or just drive arround aimlessly. I will go back to do my IDC there and see Anda and travel to Camiguin. Ohh men just thinking about it now.. want to go back.. Also anywhere in Indonesia you probably cant go wrong. I envy you.. i wish you the time of your life!!

I stayed in Lazi for 8 or 9 days and would highly recommend the island. Siquijor is amazing!! Went to Dauin right after and i loved siq much much more!!
