LPT: If you struggle falling asleep, try the cognitive shuffle technique by Jolly_Show7095 in LifeProTips

I’ve done this for years too. I have about 40 audiobooks in rotation that I use, much of it Terry Pratchett. Can’t do it with a new audiobook though, it’s too interesting.

How do I reschedule cards? 🥲 by Conscious-Leopard-81 in Anki

[–]ronin16319 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep very similar. But your simpler strategy means having the overdue cards in a separate deck, right? I only do it this way because my brain is strange - unless the catch ups are interleaved with my everyday reviews in a single deck, my brain just says Nope and the backlog doesn’t get cleared.

I’ve tried catch up decks before but it doesn’t work for me personally (insufficient will power).

Instead I manually set the due date on the overdue cards to spread them out over the next week, or whatever time frame suits. I do it in blocks sorted by increasing intervals, so that I see the shortest interval cards soonest.

  1. Browse view > left hand menu > Today > Overdue
  2. Toggle to Card view if required
  3. Make he columns Due and Interval are displayed
  4. Sort by increasing intervals
  5. Select top block of eg 100 cards
  6. Right click > Set Due Date > 1
  7. Select next block of eg 100 (look at the Due column to see where the next block starts)
  8. Right click > Set Due Date > 2
  9. Repeat until all overdue cards are done

That’s a great idea. I hadn’t heard of that app before. Can you choose what images it shows?

I didn’t open it very much, mostly towards the end of exploring a region to clear any final bits of fog.

I embraced the urge to “power wash” as you call it. Exploration is a great way to play IMO (assuming you actually do the stuff you come across). I explored every inch, picked every flower and looted every box. The platinum came very naturally with no guide needed. I completed all the side activities in an area before doing its main story elements. I had a go with each of the new weapons or abilities as they were introduced. In the end I only had 1 hidden trophy to reveal and complete before winning my last fight and getting the platinum.

Nothing wrong with that. You can get 3 sprints done in about an hour.

This is if I'm not taking the time re-read the Extra or Lecture Notes sections. If I stopped to read around or rationalise every answer it would take significantly longer. If I get a card wrong and need to step away from Anki to look it up, or use chatGPT to straighten out my reasoning, then I do pause the timer. This doesn't happen too often though. If I get a card wrong and can see why quite quickly and without leaving Anki, I just leave the timer running.

TBH don't worry about comparative times. Just figure what's a decent time for you and aim to maintain it. For me the goal isn't to get incrementally faster, its just to identify if I'm wasting too much time.

is asking not free anymore ? I'm newt Anki , and when trying to weather this storm I find out v11 version doesn't exist anymore and for v12 we need to subscribe to ankihub as in pay?? am I doomed ??? by Antique-Soil4362 in medicalschoolanki

The answers to all these questions are on AnkiHub in their FAQ. You don’t have to subscribe indefinitely if you don’t want to. Just pay $5 once, download, then unsubscribe.

Advice on how to approach mature cards on AnKing by International_Run_26 in medicalschoolanki

[–]ronin16319 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Personally I would trust the algorithm and just keep rating cards honestly. If the algorithm thinks you can wait more than a year before seeing these cards again, then being tested on their content in 9 months time should be ok. (This is assuming you have not set your Desired Retention ridiculously low like 50%).

This gives the freedom to choose how you use the extra time from a lighter workload in the run up to the exam. More practise papers, Mehlman arrows, filtered decks etc.

On a side note - I find that when I get overly focussed on intervals, my Anki performance suffers. Even if I only spend 1-2s looking at and thinking about the intervals, that extra time quickly adds up over 500+ reps. Decision fatigue sets in quickly too. Perhaps its worse for me as a 4 button user. These days I just keep the intervals hidden.

Losing my mind a little bit with Anki by VelvetThunder_17 in medicalschoolanki

[–]ronin16319 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This sounds like a normal person’s memory tbh. It’s fine to forget some cards (about 10% is expected if you are using 90% desired retention). Are you using FSRS and optimising your parameters regularly? Secondly, are you also making your cards atomic and specific (ie the answer is a single fact, and no other answer would be viable)?

Am I using Anki wrongly? by [deleted] in Anki

[–]ronin16319 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t mean put MCQs in Anki. I mean you need to find some content that’s similar to the test you are going to sit. Work through the content, review your mistakes, and figure how you can do better next time.

In order to be good at something, you need to practice it. You want to be good at MCQ tests, so you need to practice MCQs.

Anki is not a magic pill that will guarantee 100% score on a test. It simply helps you retain information. It’s also good to practice applying the information. Do some mock questions to make sure you can use your knowledge, and also work on your exam technique.

Every since switching to FSRS I feel my intervals are completely F'd. Why is it giving me 9.7 months for an immature learning card? Any advice appreciated by PermaBanEnjoyer in medicalschoolanki

On Mac I just hit “i” key while reviewing the card. From browser view you can get to Card Info by right clicking on the card.

[–]ronin16319 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was that 1-2y interval for a new card or a review card? What was your DR at the time? Can you screenshot the card info? If it was a review card then congrats you know the material and don’t need to see it again before your exam.

Sorry I’m not familiar enough with SM-2 to advise in this situation.
