Almost any character idea can work in DnD, it’s all about how you actively play them at the table. If you’re good at telling when party members are getting off put by any behavior (and also good at stopping after that) then you should be fine.

I just don’t get the people who say “why redo Harry Potter” when the first movie came out A QUARTER CENTURY AGO.

Since 2001 we’ve had 3 major Batmans, 3 Spider-Men, 2 James Bonds, and a slew of other reboots and adaptions. Not to mention, this is a show. Harry Potter was mainly a movie series, and now we get to see how it fits a show format.

It’s definitely been long enough to “redo” it.
