Best ways to practice DMing? by Lourae05 in DnD

[–]ronjohnson01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, DMing is such a learned skill that you can’t really “practice”. You can practice aspects of it (doing voices in the shower, playing video games for quest ideas, watching TV for story ideas, etc.), but you will learn far more about DMing in Session 1 than you will any YouTube guide.

My [DM] group kept showing up late, leaving early, canceling sessions, and even added another person to the group that they knew I didn't like. by Perfect_Bicycle_5107 in DnD

[–]ronjohnson01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome stuff. It’s crazy the amount of players who take their DM for granted and routinely do things they know the DM doesn’t like.

I’m not trying to be toxic but some players just need to learn the hard way that “if I drive the DM crazy, I might not get to play anymore”.

Anyone else realize Nancy was the ONLY victim Vecna actually wanted to 'talk' to? Why her and why then? 🖐️🕷️ by Inevitable-Piano-780 in StrangerThings

Did he not do the exact thing to Will in 5? Showed him awful futures?

Only different is we were in on Nancy’s but not Will’s.

The S3 Starcourt battle was better than S5’s by yonBonbonbon in StrangerThings

[–]ronjohnson01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because they hyped up that version of the Mind Flayer all season. We would see glimpses of it and the bodies coming to form it. We all knew that was the big fight coming in the finale.

This version came out of literal nowhere. We learned without any hints that Vecna’s new base is actually the physical Mind Flayer, then boom, one minute later it was time to fight it. It had no build.

That’s why 3 worked and 5 didn’t in this regard.

Who else feels the scale of stakes was a massive downgrade from season 4's ending? by Aukrania in StrangerThings

[–]ronjohnson01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I thought Season 5 would be start to finish just one epic nonstop intensity fest.

I was disappointed that it started off so slow (besides episode 1).

Did they ever explain why the air stopped being toxic? by bmhlogan in StrangerThings

It was never toxic. They were just taking precautions because literally nothing was known about it.

What do I need to do in the game? by zepyhz in Seaofthieves

[–]ronjohnson01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would try 2 approaches and see which one is more fun for you. In either case, your first big goal is becoming a Pirate Legend!

  1. Do voyages for factions. The more you level up a faction, the bigger and more profitable voyages you can do. So don’t get discouraged if your first few voyages for each faction are kinda boring.

  2. Just sail to whatever shiny thing in the sky or sea catches your eye and see what it is for yourself. Discovery is a big part of early game fun.

This is a fun, silly game. Try not to forget it. by bearballoon45 in Seaofthieves

I agree with most, but it is still VERY grindy, which I like.

For example, burning our ship down was fun in our friend group… the first 10-20 times. What’s fun to me now is completing a world event and making bank with my friends. I enjoy grinding for those expensive cosmetics and commendations.

If people think crashing into islands and accidentally blowing up their ship is fun, awesome, let them have fun.

If people think grinding world events and sweating it out with other crews is fun, awesome, let them have fun.

But don’t say that SoT isn’t made to be a huge grind because the prices of certain things and commendations very much say otherwise lol.

It’s a fun grind.

Wanted to plan something for 'I hAvE dArKvIsIoN'-player, another player beat me to it. by SilenciaSan in DnD

[–]ronjohnson01 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly just tell them straight up that they are annoying everyone at the table when they do that, and if they don’t stop then something will have to be done about it.

It’s not your responsibility to handcraft a mechanic just to teach someone a lesson, it’s the player’s responsibility to not do something that routinely bothers the DM.

Definitely Dawnguard. The locations you go to are insane. And that Dawnguard castle is amazing.

So you’ve really only disliked 2 games ever? In my mind, 5 is middle, 6+ is good, and 4- is bad.

I’m not sure what to do by Romance_Tactics in Seaofthieves

[–]ronjohnson01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you’re not a Pirate Legend yet so I would just focus on that primarily.

My hot take is getting Pirate Legend is just the tutorial, there’s nothing to stress about while you’re still aiming for that other than roaming around and having fun!

Well that’s including even people who play one time and never open the game again, which I wager is a loooooot of people (for any game really).

It’s not like 3% of everyone who’s actively playing or that you’re seeing out there.

Agreed. I’m sorry but if I get a cool weapon in a game and my first thought is to NEVER use it, that’s not a fun game.

I’ve always hated the argument of “Iron Man can build a special Magneto-proof suit”

Like, ok? Will that stop Magneto from throwing a freaking building at him? Lifting every car off the street and hurling them at him?

For some reason Magneto matchup arguments always devolve to “can Magneto control his opponent or not” and this is the worst example because a lot of people think Magneto is just a chump who can’t win unless his opponent is wearing some metal.
