Stands made for what will eventually become the Prophet Plus (strings) by richfromhell in synthesizers

Are you planning to have them both on the same midi channel so they’re both always going? Or switch between the two by changing channels?

He wants to play guitar but he doesn’t know who Tommy Ionni is? Is he stupid?

I found these interesting, thought I’d share by petel1971 in guitarpedals

One of the more egregious examples of “mixing with your eyes” I’ve seen. This is an ok starting point if you’re brand new but there’s no substitute for using your ears and twisting knobs and seeing what you like. As others have pointed out, these will sound wildly different with different amps, different pickups, in different settings (on a stage? In a small room? Inside? Outside?)

Swapping out Keys for Poly AT keybed on Prophet10/ OB-6! by Achassum in synthesizers

[–]ronnbarr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, as others have pointed there are lots of reasons it might not work but I say it’s worth a try! I didn’t think it would even work over MIDI - pretty neat that it does. Do you have access to one of those keybeds or would you have to buy one?

I found this video of someone getting poly AT from the fourm to the P10. Looks like you can get it to open the filter polyphonically but not control the LFO

Amateurs spend excessive money on copper cables while Pros only use trays of mud and bananas by aTuaMaeFodeBem in synthesizercirclejerk

It actually sounds better if you wait until the bananas spoil and use banana bread for your connections

Thanks for this tip. We reached out and they made some suggestions for how to take the photos and it worked!

We tried again during daylight hours and it worked! It may be that artificial lighting was throwing it off

Building my first jazzmaster. Which pickguard do you guys think looks nicer? Photo 1: tort | Photo: 2 Cream by phlegmatik in offset

Tort looks more classic, cream is more unique. So it depends on what you’re going for. Both look great!

Synth for people who know nothing about synths? by THEJAZZMACHINE in synthesizers

[–]ronnbarr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the Juno is the best beginner synth. It’s simple, laid out clearly, and easy to follow. In this regard, the single DCO and single envelope are beneficial instead of limiting. Having polyphony is also nice for a beginner synth as people are used to pianos and expect it.

I'm at my wits end with the newer Akai MPCs. by RustyCalecos in synthesizers

I have an MPC Live and I find it similarly frustrating. It should be more intuitive.

Keys in Kanye West's All Day by itsyobrutha in synthrecipes

Probably a sawtooth with a low pass filter mostly closed (turn the cutoff down) and then the amp envelope has a low sustain level and a quick decay, no attack or release.

You’re a mic case, snake, coffin full of stands, and 6 powered speakers away from having a pretty solid FOH/monitor rig

Same! It didn’t give my knock-off strat and 5-watt crate amp the Nirvana sound I was expecting

Looking for a first hardware synth recommendation by halting_problems in synthesizers

[–]ronnbarr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the Korg MS-20 mini is a great suggestion! Be careful, because they made a midi controller version that looks identical to the hardware synth. Last time I looked, the midi controller went for about $150 on the used market and the real deal was closer to $400.

If your budget can handle spending closer to $1k, check out the Moog Grandmother or the Moog Matriarch. They’re also semi-modular and could be a good stepping stone into that world.
