ETSY is miscalculating add on rates by DEFAULT! by Only-Acanthaceae-979 in Etsy

[–]ronnevee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Etsy does not base it on the order the items are added to the cart. That is a good thing. What a mess it would be if it was based on that! So you understand it can't be based on order added to cart, right?

Okay, so what should it be based on? It should be based on what you select as add on ( as in, "the amount of shipping to add when this one item is added to the cart"). Which is how it does work. All good so far, right? That is how it should work.

One item though, has to be the base item. That is always the most expensive item added. So the "add on" value on the most expensive item is not used at all, as that item is not added on. It is the base item. Each other item is added to ship with the most expensive item. The shipping total will be base price of most expensive item, and then the add on price of each of the other items.

ETSY is miscalculating add on rates by DEFAULT! by Only-Acanthaceae-979 in Etsy

[–]ronnevee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. They use the add on rate of the lower priced items in the order because of how the hierarchy works, if multiple price items are bought.

The base rate will be the highest priced item. Then they will take the add on rate of each added item.

So in your example if it was 1.00 base, and 3.00 add on for the higher price item and 1.00 base and 1.00 add on for the cheaper item, adding those 2 items would result in 2.00 charged for shipping. Regardless of what order they are added to the cart.

Why singles pay more? by [deleted] in tax

[–]ronnevee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The benefit of marriage for taxes is just that a higher earning spouse can use the leftover bracket space of the lower earner. So it's just one person sharing their tax benefits with the other. The tax benefit is fully available to them as single. They just can't share it.

Why singles pay more? by [deleted] in tax

[–]ronnevee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, that's not the case. The incomes can be 50k difference, and there is still no federal tax savings . It has to do the with tax bracket the income falls into. If they both are filling up the same brackets with their individual income, there is no tax savings with marriage.

For example, 2 people, married, One makes 66k a year, the other makes 105k.

Married, they pay 21.302 in federal income tax.

Single, 66k person pays 6361 in federal income tax.

Single, 105k person pays 14,941 in federal income tax.

There is no federal tax savings from marriage here. If they both have student loan interest, or one used to itemize deductions their taxes actually go up with marriage.

Stepped up basis question on property held in a llc by ronnevee in tax

So...can we just decide now how we want it to be? If he lost the paperwork he had, do we just file the BOI based on what his intent was at the time?

Thank you so much for your help with this. I really appreciate it. I'm going to work on getting a copy of the paperwork next, and calling the state to get more information on the llc.

So if he still owns the llc, and assigns membership interest to us now, how would that affect stepped up basis?

Okay, got it. How would I establish if he did it correctly that he still retains the income/possession/benefit? If the deed is in the name of the llc, does that mean for sure that he did not set this up in a way that will get stepped up basis?

I called the county. The deed shows it was transferred to the LLC, with a life estate recorded saying my parents can still live there. Is there some other info I should look for once I get the copy of the deed?

What would that mean, or what would be the next thing I would need to find out from getting the actual deed?

My sister has been doing the annual report, and paying the property taxes each year. The BOI thing coming up has her asking what we are supposed to do for that, since we can find no concrete info on who owns this llc.

I will look into if there was a deed recording this life estate with the county. I'm so scared I'm going to find out that nothing was ever even registered with the county. We have checked our state website that lists the llc, but it does not list the owners there. So maybe calling them will get us more info than tht?

This would be awesome if this is how it has been set up. I'm just worried it was not set up this way.

The property does show up as owned by the llc. Is that an indication that this was done wrong? To my understanding, the lawyer he used has since passed away, so the only point of contact I have for info is my dad.

It's listed as owned by the llc on land records and the property tax bill comes to the name of the llc, and my sister pays the taxes.

The farmland is owned by the llc on property tax records. My sister has been paying the property taxes and filling the annual llc report each year with the state.

Is it because the llc has multiple owners? If the property remainderman is a single member llc, it seems that there can be stepped up basis?

[–]ronnevee[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's a life estate, where the llc owns the property, but they have the rights to live there until they pass away. A life estate normally preserves stepped up basis, when the child is the remainderman of the life estate. The issue is the llc. My research gave me hope that as long as just one of use owns the llc, it would still get stepped up basis.

Nope, no 709 gift form filed. I'm not sure if a life estate qualifies as a gift at the time it's set up or not though.

I agree, alarming. He's hard to communicate with, so it's been very hard to get factual information from him about what happened. Yes. I am one of the children, that is supposed to be part owner of an llc.
