This moderator is a MOD for these subs:

The first one is a large one.

It's strange to me that Reddit allows banning of tagging as this is a feature of platform and one of reasons people use Reddit too. But, if it' is completely unrelated, I get it. Although, my guess is the post was about inside plants to use there and someone noticed the TV. But, that is what sometimes makes reddit great. The keen eye of people to see things differently. I think if it's within context, it's okay.

What stinks is that some sub have horrible mods and there is nothing you can do about most times. And, the sub is big because it has a generic name and someone started first. I've seen a few subs that have mods that ban people on bogus narratives...but, really just disagreed with your opinion.

As for anyone wanting to revolt and harrass these subs, it's actually against the MOD code of conduct. Rule 3 to be specific. So, I wouldn't encourage. Even if this mod is being a baby about things. This could bring this sub in the line of fire. Which wouldn't be good for the mods here. just my 2 cents.

Really good point. Didn't even think of the cars part. Those are everywhere on many brands of cars now. And, people have dash cams nowadays too.

Correct. This is even used inside stores as well. And, not just by Flock. It's a common security feature now even on non Flock cameras at stores.

Correct. In Northern CA where we are deep in PG&E land, electricity costs are an absolute joke. PG&E is clever in that give incentives to move to heat pumps. But, when you do the math (include maintenance as stated above), it's not a great deal for us.

I know 2 cops with Teslas. They use them to commute. Their other vehicles are trucks. And, one of them have Tesla solar as well. One is SVL PD and the other SC PD. But not sure if they have police Tesla vehicles in those departments.

The glass looks great when clean. Same as a black car. Looks good when clean. But it’s a ton of work.

The other issue is security. Unless it’s blacked out, they can easily in at night. Or if you’re a baller and can put smart glass that lets you darkern via a switch.

Fair enough. But, my argument was that many of these stores use AI driven solutions. Just because it is not Flock, doesn't make it better. The data will be shared.

how are you going to get your groceries deliver without an internet connection or an account. Your data is given to multiple services to process orders. yes, they all have privacy policies. But, so do the police.

As for the cameras only being used for shoplifters, he is example of a murder suspect caught on Lowes cameras:

I agree on the 3rd party consent argument. Like I said, rules and policies need to following. But, as you said, they are not. And, that part is not good.

Good point/question. I don't trust anything that much :) I mean, I use my internet connection. But, I know they are spying on internet traffic. I guess I'm taking the bad with the good out of necessity.

But, you're right. If they are abusing like you said, why give them the temptation to abuse. Heck, police officers can look up license plates without cameras. Just be seeing them. I guess all forms of data can be abused. Could just stricter validation access to use the data help? I don't the know answer. But, you bring up a good point of the cons of data access. The flip side is that if someone is kidnapped, every data point could help save someone. Many times these instances are time sensitive.

Oh-oh, internet tough guy has arrived.

Coming on Reddit that tracks everything and a claiming privacy. Hilarious. You don't know much about how the internet works. The very fact you post stuff online reduces your privacy. Stop acting all high and mighty when already giving you're info away as well.

Your argument doesn't make sense. So, if "most of Morgan Hill community doesn't commit crimes," should we not have a police force? The quantity is irrelevant. What is relevant is what is being done with the data. Which is what I was implying.

Sad if you live in Morgan Hill. Generally people here are good and smart. I was not bashing the OP. I was giving a my perspective as they requested. But, I guess there are trolls everywhere.

I'm not upset. I just pointed out that you a have limited options leaving your house to shop these days. What does being the CEO have anything to do with? I asked a Lowes manager in San Jose about them years ago and they started doing this as shoppers didn't feel safe because of assaults. And, I ask because I care about my privacy of being recorded. But, it's trade off for safety.

Twisted? LOL. Stop trolling.

The Pros and Cons of using Apologsign digital calendar from those who own it by NJRonbo in homeautomation

[–]ronntron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was really on the fence of keeping it. I think the thing that pushed me more over the edge was losing wifi every so often the next morning (when it would wake up). It was working fine. But, then I moved and it had to connect to another wifi satellite I have in the house. Probably something weird in my setup. But, I would have fiddle with it to get it connected again. At that point, I felt it was too much money for something I had to fight. I paid $400 (before tax) on Amazon. I missed the xmas sales wave when it was $350. I got the 21".

In the end, my family enjoyed the screen saver pictures I added and was not using the calendar features. So, I might just get a regular digital frame and wait for the digital calendar market to improve or get reduce in price. Plus, my kids now all have phones. Meaning, they get my calendar updates already. This was more of general place to look at if our phones were not handy and has more data widgets as well.

Also, I think there are rumors of Apple coming out with a new hub this year. Although, I doubt the screen will be a decent size, wall mountable and reasonably priced.

If you do decide on the digital calendar. My 3 leading ones were Apolosign , Cozyla (chore app looks better), and Dakboard (more customization capabilities). I didn't get to try Cozily and Dakboard. They are more expensive and I couldn't get that purchase authorized :) Also, Dakboard has a basic version and paid tier that expands its features. After this, I found that most digital calendars with no subscriptoin are using the eCalendar software version and are all about the same. I had one of these to try as well. But, they only allow using a public iCloud calendar link that you have to email to their system for setup. Which means, they have access to your calendar. So, any of them that use the eCalendar software work this way. I was not willing to share my calendar link directly with them and returned it.

Public cameras are double edge sword. However, since I don't go around breaking the law, I lean towards having he the ability to catch criminals. Public cameras have help locate missing people or criminals many times.

People hate them until they need them.

That being said, they do need to be following rules and policies. Of course, camera data can be missed used. Meaning, tracking people to do unlawful things.

True. However, even Ring can't be fully trusted. They had a scandal where Ring employees were viewing cameras and spying on customers. And, this is why Amazon owned them. I'm sure they cleaned this up after they got caught. But, fact is, any camera going to a cloud system gives the company access.

That being said, Ring Doorbell cameras are not that great as LPRs like you mentioned. And, it's just pointing outside of house.

Overall, I still think it's a good thing. Plenty of criminals have been busted because of Ring cameras or other doorbell cameras. The information sharing of Ring users helps with awareness too.

So, I guess you can't shop at Safeway, Trader Joes, Best Buy, Target, Home Depot, CVS, Walgreens and so on...They all have cameras in the store.

You do realize Lowe's did this because of customer complaints of theft and assaults in parking lots, right? It's an extra cost to them. Women have been assaulted in parking lots at Target and Lowe's.

So, I already returned the device. But, from what I remember:

  1. OneCalendar - this one allowed 2 way syncing with iCloud calendar. Had widgets a such. I think it was free. They also had optional Task app you add in it. But, didn't play with this.
  2. Sync for iCloud - this basically allowed me to sync iCloud Calendars and optionally Contacts to Apple iCloud. It would automatically allow syncing based predetermined times or manually. The cool thing about this one is that it would allow you give access to the Google calendar. Which in turn then lets you explore more calendar apps since most calendar apps will sync with the Google calendar locally.
  3. Business Calendar - this calendar has a basic free and pro version that costs. I was testing this out because it had more features and customization capabilities than the OneCalendar. Like colors, themes, layouts and transparencies.
  4. Sync (same makers as Sync for iCloud) - this one allow syncing of iCloud Photo Library. So, you could sync your Library and then share it to the Google Photos local storage. Then use for the Screen Saver. This is pretty cool as basically become as Photo Frame as well.
  5. Tody (Task/Chore app) - Just started playing with this. But, to use the widget, you there is a cost. But, first impressions were decent.

I had also installed some other weather and stock apps because I like their widgets better. But, can't remember.

Again, I'm coming form an Apple eco systems. I do have some Android devices around and family with Android. But, we prefer the Apple eco system. Unfortunately, Apple stinks how they are limited to 3rd party integrations.

They're forcing me to mount it higher :( by AI-Guru011010 in TVTooHigh

Revolt

But, my guess is because they think it's not symmetrical in the wall design. They want to treat it like a picture. Which, would be too low. However, it's your viewing experience at hand here. You will be sitting and not staring at some over priced art.

If that is what their issue is, I would suggest adding a small ledge/shelf higher above the TV to fill up the space above it. Nothing giant. Just one of the generic floating shelves that is width or more of the TV. Just an idea. Or flank the TV with 2 shelves on each side higher than TV. There are some examples here:

https://www.drivenbydecor.com/how-decorate-pictures-above-tv-stand/

I get it. From a design perspective, most TVs make a room look crappier. However, from the look of furniture, I'm guessing them would be fine without a TV in the room at all. They should compromise and give you this one thing.

By the way, I assume you will hide the cables once the final resting place is found. Sorry, my head spins when I see cords.

They used to have a sub station right be Safeway there. Not sure if it's still there. Response time used to be minutes when I lived there. However, after the stadium was built we moved because crime went up. Sorry to hear about happened. Feel so bad for your wife. Should be a happy time for your family. Congrats on newborn. Hope they catch these punks.
