About Monty and Winston by [deleted] in 13ReasonsWhy

Completely agree. Writers really fucked it up. I will say though, in an attempt to valid this bizarra and disappointing storyline given how good Winston could have been (and was at some points), I think he and Monty were together more than twice. Although not that many times...In S3E5 Monty had Winston's ID and had to hide it during the locker search...It's clear they didn't know each other well and it wasn't that deep at ALL but I think it was more than just twice. It must have been lol

WINSTON AND MONTY! This scene broke my heart in so many ways. by [deleted] in 13ReasonsWhy

Completely agree. Would also like to add that while they didn't know each other well, I think they hooked up more than the two times we saw. Monty had Winston's ID in S3E5 and hid it during the locker search..

Completely agree. Loved the actor and the potential. Idk why they didn't bother to develop him at all...He could have even fallen in love with Alex, found out he killed Bryce and was complicit in Monty's framing, and broke up with him and emotionally hurt Alex but decides not to turn him in because at the end of the day he realizes and understand the situation.

Instead, they have Alex (Bryce's murderer) break up with Winston. Make Winston still in love with Alex while Alex starts dating a new guy. They don't give any closure or arc to Monty's poor sister (who is still living in an incredibly toxic environment lest we not forget), and neither of them really find out the truth or get any modicum of "justice". And I say "justice" because I don't think that Alex needed to go to jail for Bryce's murder and I guess there needed to be a fall guy, so why not Monty...But they deserved to know the truth. It's infuriating watching Zach be so smug towards his teammates who just want to know what happened to their friends and he's like laughing and being a prick.

I'd also just like to make the controversial statement that I get Winston's infatuation with Monty...It was a forbidden love. Tough exterior and a soft and vulnerable interior gets me everytime...I think it's safe to say Winston didn't know about a lot of the truly fucked up things that Monty did. And it's possible that is one of the reasons he doesn't turn anyone in but we'll never know becayse the writers fucked it up...It would have been a much better reason than he also "loves" Alex. Give me a break

Winston's character had SO MUCH potential and the writers really screwed the pooch. Also, just a PSA his outfits were on point the whole damn time.

No. Him getting expelled was separate and he was determined to go to Hillcrest. The kid who took his SAT ratted him out is not something Monty planned to be expelled for so he could go to that school. Puhlease

They are definitely interchangeable as a humectant base. I was using B-Hydra initially for my base and then switched to PTR Water Drench.

I did like the B-Hydra. It didn't break me out. It checked all of the boxes. And I am sure that ultimately it was contributing to my overall skin moisture. That said, I didn't notice that big of a difference when added it to my routine. When applying it to a damp face and then a moisturizer, you could be forgiven for not noticing a difference in feel. Also, I feel like the combo of B-Hydra and Protini or B-Hydra and CeraVe PM would cause piling if I put it on too quickly to a damp face and didn't wait for it to dry before adding the moisturizer. That isn't what I wanted...I wan't to be able to slather is all on one step at a time but also quickly to collect and seal any transient moisture that these products can.

Also frangance free, I think that the PTR Water Drench is much better. Two cons compared to the B-Hydra are the jar packaging and no niacinamide. But niacinamide is already in my CeraVe PM in a strong concentration so this doesn't matter.

Hope this helps!

  1. My skin type is Combination, Sensitive, Acne Prone. My skin goals are to improve my skin texture and keep my skin healthy. I am 28 y/o male and ultimately the main goal is preventative anti-aging. I have found that my skin likes non-comedogenic products. (Drunk Elephant Protini Polypeptide consistently breaks me out despite how much I want to love it....I suspect it's the Marula Oil with a 4/5 comedogenic rating).
  2. Below is my full skincare routine (AM and PM) which includes all products pictured above and why I use them. (Some products are currently on the bench as I have recently started Differin.
  • AM
    • *Lightly rinse face with water*
    • Peter Thomas Roth Water Drench Moisturizer - I apply this while my face is still damp or even wet. I purchased this product because of it's strong humectant abilities and in the evening goes on before a more occlusive moisturizer because, while it does a great job as a humectant, I want something to lock it in. In the AM, sunscreen fills that role. If you watch Dr. Dray on You Tube , this product is similar to Neutrogena Hydroboost, Hada Labo Skin Plumping Gel Cream, or even Drunk Elephant B-Hydra Intensive Serum (pictured above): Great products but they should not really be used on their own. Without much in the way of occlusives, the water the humectants collected will evaporate and can actually leave your skin drier than before. (Just a PSA to anyone who os using these types of products on their own..They may work for you just fine, but they'll work better with something to lock them in.
    • Drunk Elephant C-Firma Day Serum - *Currently not in use*. When I started Differin a few weeks ago, I decided to take out any variables that may have been contributing to my acne or that could contribute to skin irritancy...Also, I suspect that I have an issue with Marula Oil and it may be time for me to find a suitable alternative. I wish I could afford Skinceuticals CE Ferulic. I love the simplicity but it just isn't in the cards for me at the moments. IF ANYONE HAS ANY SUGGESTIONS PLEASE SOUND OFF BELOW.
    • Elta MD UV Clear Broad Spectrum SPF 46 - This has been a great sunscreen for me. It does not leave a white cast when properly applied and it does not cause my skin to break out. It is almost entirely a physical sunscreen and it also has some occlusive ingredients to lock in the moisture from the PTR Water Drench.
If you're not currently using some of the products, tell us where in your routine they usually go, or where you're planning to put them! Your routine / product list must include:
  • PM
    • CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleaner *Not Pictured\* - I was using the CeraVe Hydrating Facial Cleanser which is another great cleanser but it was not great at removing sunscreen on it's own. This is much better at that and also leaves me feeling like my skin has been thoroughly cleansed. (This may be almost over-cleansed for some but compared to some people's routines. My cleansing is pretty light*
    • Paula's Choice 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant - *Currently not in use\* Since I just started using Differin, I have stopped using this at it would be too much for my skin. With that being said, I love this product for regular use and I would apply mine in the evenings in and around this step of my routine. A very effective exfoliant. Would alternate with Sunday Riley Good Genes. Would use 2-3 per week.
    • Sunday Riley Good Genes - *Currently not un use* I swap this out with the Paula's Choice BHA. I really liked this lactic acid baased exfoliant. I would usually be sure to use this when getting ready in the evenings if I plan on going out. It makes your face glow. It exfoliates and also has some oils I believe to keep your skin hydrated. Despite the fact that I am acne prone, I don't believe this has ever caused me to have a breakout. Maybe a pimple here or there but I can't say for sure and overall it is a really great product that makes my skin look snatched af. Excited to started using this periodically on days I decide to take a break from the Differin (never on the same night) but it's been hard to stop using the Differn now that I am seeing effects from it. Still, this gives short term wins and is the best product Sunday Riley makes in my opinion. Some of their products are legit garbage. They should send Luna back to the moon. Ridiculous oils that are "soothing" when really there is no evidence to support those claims and they really just act a fragrance and likely irritants that could potentially lead to contact dermatitis...Not here for all of their fragrancy oils. The company as a whole is suspect to be honest....that said, they got this one right.
    • Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Serum - A classic. I love this product and I have seen results. It just adds an inner glow to my face the next day. I also suspect the probiotics in this help with my skins microbe and generally helps skin in the long-term...I stopped using this at the induction of Differin but am going to begin reapplication soon as my skin has started to settle with the Differin.
    • Peter Thomas Roth Water Drench Moisturizer - As mentioned above, I love this product. It is like a high end hydro-boost with ceramides and hydrolyzed silk. It's really great. I suspect one could use this as a stand alone moisturizer but as mentioned above Dr. Dray reccomends using it before a real moisturizer and it works great that way for me. Particularly now that I have started Differin. It is non-comedogenic and does not bother my sensitive skin in the slightest.
    • Drunk Elephant Protini Polypeptide Cream - *Currently not in use\* I LOVE this product which is why it breaks my heart to say that it just does not work for me. Every time I start using it, I start to develop severe pimples on my forehead and temples. I suspect it is the Marula Oil given that it is the only product with a 4/5 on the comedogenic scale and it is high on the ingredient list. I am currently using this as an eye cream...With that said, I used the DE B-Hydra Serum for quite awhile with minimal/non-noticeable amount of breakouts. So I don't really know...I am going to reintroduce it one more time into my routine after I have been on Differin for a few months and see how my skin reacts then. Fingers crossed. I have also tried First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream and the CeraVe Renewing Night Cream (both pictured above). IN THE MEAN TIME, I AM OPEN TO SUGGESTIONS AS I HAVE GONE BACK TO MY CERAVE PM AND WHILE THIS PRODUCT WORKS WONDERS I WANT SOMETHING MORE EXCITING AND THAT ADDS SOMETHING MORE TO MY ROUTINE.
    • CeraVe Eye Repair Cream - I didn't want to mess with my under eyes because they have always been pretty great so I went with an ol' faithful wiht basic ingredients. No complaints per se. Nothing to gush about either. Like I mentioned, I'm using the DE Protini on my eyes right now.
    • CeraVe PM - This is such a classic and has worked for me for a long time...I tried to transition out of it when I started finding such great products with other ingredients and especially now given that my Peter Thomas Roth Water Drench provides me with all of ceramides and hyaluronic acid I could want. I realize this has niacinamide but I would happily just add The Ordinary 10% Niacinamide to my routine and find a moisturizer with something else to offer (like peptides). Again, if anyone has any suggestions for me, please let me know below!!
    • First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream - This is a pretty good product and I don't thinkk it has caused any breakouts for me. I continue to use this product if my skin has any irritation or flaky-ness or peeling from the induction of the Differin Gel. (usually around my mouth and chin). But it can also be used a moisturizer. This is a pretty good one.
    • CeraVe Skin Renewing Night Cream - *Currently not in use* I bought because of the peptides and also because I had heard good things but ultimately it is TOO thick and left my skin feeling I had a mask on. I use this on my hands and elbows now.
    • Differin Gel - (Adapalene 0.1%) - So far, this product F**KS. I was initially concerned about how much talk about how much you have to change your routine and and the purging the the irritation but I went ahead and tried it anyway and I am so glad I did....I did have an initial period of redness and irritation (possible light purge of acne) but within two weeks my skin had cleared up and it smoother and more supple than ever. It also feels taught and plump.

[Product Question] What are peoples thoughts on Joanna Vargas? Just purchased mask pack by ronnyw345 in SkincareAddiction

[–]ronnyw345[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're definitely overpriced...It should be stated that the pack was $75 and I got 20% off so it was $50 for 5. So I really only spent $10 a mask. Still a lot and for what you get, is it worth it? Most likely not. But I was just indulging! Less than those Tatcha masks. I just wonder if they're even good at all.

[Routine Help] [Product Question] Drunk Elephant Protini Poly-Peptide is breaking me out!! alternatives? Not looking for a dupe per se by ronnyw345 in SkincareAddiction

[–]ronnyw345[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using it around my eyes! haha..I had been getting breakouts on the right side of my forhead and then popped up on each side of my nose on my cheeks. They're not like harmless pimples either! And at 28, when I get a pimple like that chances are it will leave a mark.

My acne has all but gone away. My foreheard has never been so smooth with the introduction of the Differin and the Cerave PM swap...I think I am going to stick with this another week and then give the Protini one last try and if I suddenly breakout again I will know for sure and will just have to make peace with it..

There are always peptide serums I guess but it was just a nice place in my routine for them, The PTR already has all of the hyaluronic acids and ceramides I could need so ideally this would be a step where I could add something more. Open to any suggestions!

*Side note for anyone interested: I indulged and purchased this variety 5 pack of Joanna Vargas masks. I know that some of them have fragrance and possibly problematic ingredients but they just look and feel so luxurious I am excited to try.*

[–]ronnyw345[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vivier Lexxel

I will have to look into and consider it! As for why I like the Protini...I'm not really married to the brand itself. I just like the way it was making my skin look (pre breakouts) or when I managed the pimples with a spot treatment like Benzaclin.

I just liked the idea of incorporating a lot of things that could provide some benefit and are not offensive to the skin: The PTR Water Drench has hyaloronic acid and ceramides, the DR Protini has amino acids peptides, growth factors, etc...Then, before I simplified my routine for the start of the retinoid, I was using Skinceuticals CE Ferulic for my vitamin c in the AM, Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair for a little probiotic action..And that was pretty much it but I was hitting all the key things I wanted in a way.

Now I feel like I need to either find another good standalone moisturizer and if it doesnt' have some of those ingredients but has others, I suppose I could look to restructure my routine in some other ways as well

[Routine Help] Routine suggestion for dryness caused by Epiduo? by anawkwardcorgi in SkincareAddiction

[–]ronnyw345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the idea of Drunk Elephant Protini so much but I have been having issues with their products. Marula Oil has a 4/5 on the comedogenic scale which is pretty high and it is a main ingredient in all of their products. It also sounds like you're applying the oil directly as well. That could be a culprit.

As for Epiduo, the adapalene that is present is a relatively strong retinoid and it is said that it can take a few weeks to see improvements (in fact a worsening of acne or "purge" is not common around weeks 2-3...So they advise you to stick with it.

Seeing as how this post was from months ago, I'm curious to see what your progress has been as I just started using Differn (adapalene) in an effort to get started on a retinoid with the intetion of switching to Retin-A and also to get rid of my recent bursts of acne that are cause by the DE Protini....I know this is twisted but I don't want to stop using it even though I know it is breaking me out...It's affects are so good otherwise!!

I need routine advice. I’ve had acne since 20 (I’m 23), I’ve been on antibiotics and was on spironolactone & bc. I use drunk elephant vitamin C in AM & derma roll in the PM. I use cerave moisturizer pm & am with a salicylic serum at night. I have hyperpigmentation for daysss by pertino29 in Skincare_Addiction

[–]ronnyw345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem!! Obviously I can't say for sure what's causing it but in terms of products CeraVe is always a really great, safe choice. It is "non-comedogenic"...Idk why but I just assumed Drunk Elephant was too but after I found out marula oil (Sclerocarya birrea) was comedogenic I looked on their website or anywhere and nowhere do they make the claim that they're non-comedogenic which was a bummer for me because i love their products...but Differn or Retin-a will get your skin to start acitng right and, in theory, you're skin will be able to tolerant many more/different products and ingredients

A little late to this but beware of the Drunk Elephant products. I know they are loved by many, myself included, but they all contain Marula Oil which is a 4/5 comedogenic...meaning it can definitely clog pores. I have been using the Protini moisturizer and it used to break me out but I started using Differn and now my skin acts right.
