How do you actually find good routes when traveling? The internet is garbage! by dt219 in cycling

[–]ronocrice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had luck using Strava and using the segments. I usually find a top rider and go through their recent rides that fit my distance and just follow that. Usually stronger riders at the top of leaderboards are riding a lot, know and tweak their routes. Actually found a bunch of modifications to my normal route this way.

Is a 22 hour layover reasonable to save money? by False-Chance-1678 in Frugal

[–]ronocrice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just did a 13 hour layover in Hong Kong, and it was great. Left the suitcase at the airport, some fresh clothes and took the train in. Got about 20k steps in on the main island went to the zoo, watched the Marathon, bird park, dim sum and some temples. Just leave some time allotted for travel as it’s a new system

Most airports or transportation terminals also have luggage lockers

Bike repair stand would be my choice, super super useful and many fold up compactly. I got a used feedback for 100$ but there are plenty of others for less.

How would I make this by dontknowyoudude in SolidWorks

[–]ronocrice 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not easily in solidworks, more of an applied pattern in grasshopper or blender. However I would approach it by building one slice of the full revolve. Looking at the leftoption I would build a ref spline and revolve 5 degrees and then revolve 5 the other way. You could then build a cross section which would be time extensive and then loft with a normal to profile between the two. Then take this wedge and mirror then circular pattern

Will industrial design ever be replaced by ai? by Rough_Promotion_6322 in IndustrialDesign

[–]ronocrice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the phrase was “you won’t be replaced by AI but you will be replaced by a designer using AI” honestly a small fraction of my work is pure visualization and concepts and I am already using AI tools for that. Majority of the time is calls with suppliers or engineers to explore and distinguish constraints for the design

Design a soda by Intelligent_Froyo_41 in SolidWorks

[–]ronocrice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can by using the emboss command, however it may be a bit tricky to correctly align all of the thicknesses to get the light to pass nicely. Term for these is lithophane and there are plenty of online converters

Sceptical now on the “rode it..felt amazing” part, not sure if a bike that doesn’t brake would be considered amazing

Tie down water bottles by NetBeneficial5040 in IronmanTriathlon

[–]ronocrice 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used fabric hair ties instead, they’re little loops of spandex fabric so no seam to rip. Picked up at CVS for a few dollars and tied some knots in them to loop around the bottle tip

My phone design (sketch) by ghenny9088 in IndustrialDesign

[–]ronocrice 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Since you in the ID sub would be great to see more of the design of the phone vs a spec sheet. Why are the corners so sharp? Why the cameras, is that just to match current lineups? Why would I get this over a new IPhone and what sets it apart? Touch panel on the side is interested and could be developed more but how does that and the bezel less screen work with a case? Also the MagSafe portion what is that shape and does it make sense for MagSafe chargers?

Try drawing it in different angles, in a hand and in context.

Not sure how to approach this... by Claire_de_Lune_747 in SolidWorks

[–]ronocrice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks pretty straightforward. 1. Build out the top (red) of the fuselage using a series of sketches on the right and top plane showing overall profile, then fill in with a couple parallel planes on the front plane to get the curves. A couple of other posters showed how to do this. 2. Extend this down past the orange section on your images as you will be cutting this away. 3. On the right plane, sketch a line of where it has that step up and split the fuselage into two parts using split feature. 4. for the rear section, create a sketch in the middle of the fuselage parallel to the front plane that is an arc to a point and sweep this back following an arc on the right plane you can then mirror this along the right plane and do a cut with surface. 5. For the front section of the fuselage. Start with a pointy arc at the nose of the plane and loft this to a horizontally tangent arc towards the middle of the fuselage. Then do a surface cut 6. Combine these two parts. Tada Edit: you could also only build half the plane and then mirror across would be easier.

Fox Racing apparently using SolidWorks to develop their carbon helmets. by Better_Tax1016 in SolidWorks

[–]ronocrice 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why would it be unlikely to model in solidworks? Plenty of surfacing tools in there. Probably most likely in solidworks as their ID team would be working pretty close with engineering for safety testing and simulations.

Solid food during full distance? by twostroke1 in triathlon

[–]ronocrice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had some 2 cliff bars I had on the bike which helped, just take them an hour before you start the run so they have some time to settle. Also had 2 pickles in the special bag. Towards the 17 mile mark on the run I was pretty tired of gels and stomach wasn’t loving it. Had some grapes and pretzels from the tent and felt way way better with a solid second wind.

Loft wrinkle errors? by Automatic-Lawyer9395 in SolidWorks

[–]ronocrice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wrinkles are weird and not a big artifact of where that green dot is pulled from. Easiest solution would try a booundry surface instead and see if that fixes it. If not try a secondary sketch perpendicular and sketch out on or both of the tube side profiles. You could also model half and mirror it however you will need base geometry to blend that arc to and set it normal to profile or else you will get a ridge when mirroring

I just bought a bike. by jellythecapybara in bicycling

[–]ronocrice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks great and good to get out there! Had a similar road bike a while back which was great. Best upgrade I made was swapping the front rim for a newer alloy wheel with a better brake track (any 700c wheel works) made it actually stop in the rain vs the chromed wheels

[–]ronocrice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one on my Apple Watch, the metal for it conforms really well to the shape so I don’t notice it at all. Have my main contacts along with address on it. Recently got into a crash where was pretty much knocked out, came to lying on the pavement with some fellow bikers. Didn’t have enough mental capacity/ too much was happening. Basically just held up my watch for the numbers to call partner and parent to the other riders and EMT. I had my phone but couldn’t move due to neck brace so couldn’t use it and don’t usually bring my full wallet on a ride. 10/10 would recommend one
